Moto X benchmarks leak specifications in black

Right here a the start of another week of Moto X leaks leading up to the official August 1st device reveal comes Motorola’s next hero phone spilling essentially in full, complete with specifications, benchmarks, and all. The device is captured by a leakster who has decided to photograph the phone with benchmarks running hot, 3DMark and AnTuTu included. BONUS: The FCC has been so kind as to drop some additional details on this machine here as well, dimensions galore!

frontsbacks

The Moto X has been all but confirmed here by the FCC to be working with a body thats 128.5mm by 65mm large, this containing what’s almost certainly a non-removable battery that’s 2200 mAh space-wise. The FCC has spilled the full-on next-generation abilities of this machine to go 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-fi full-speed-ahead!

The iteration of this device appearing through this leak appears to be the GSM version – that being one of the basics that’ll be sold directly through Motorola complete with customizations on its outer hardware. This exact model likely has slightly less-than-final software aboard, but we can tell from here that it’s essentially running the newest version of Android available: 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

That means that the final device will either be running this newest Android as it exists on the Nexus 4 and Google Play editions of the Galaxy S 4 and HTC One, or it’s simply a tester (it really is, don’t fool yourself) that’ll eventually get an upgrade to a newer Android, 4.3 more likely.

sides

Inside you’ll find the device-code XT1058 “Ghost”, this pointing toward it possibly being along AT&T’s line of innards. Inside you’ll also find 16GB of internal storage, working with NFC, and sporting two cameras. The front-facing camera comes in at 2.1-megapixels while the back-facing camera comes in at a cool 10.5-megapixels.

This next-generation camera should be encouraging for those guessing that this Motorola smartphone will ONLY be winning out on hardware customizability, not specifications market topping. That said, this machine wont be killing the rest of the market for processing abilities, running here a Qualcomm S4 Pro MSM8960DT 1.7GHz SoC with Adreno 320 GPU.

That’s dual-core and essentially one-upping the Nexus 4 without growing so powerful as the HTC One or Galaxy S 4, each of them working with the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600. This Moto X and its S4 Pro hit 18753 in AnTuTu in this tester’s leaks along with a 3DMark Ice Storm Extreme score of 7143 – not half bad!

ALso you’ll find this 4.3-inch display’s processor to be rolling out with 720p – aka 720 x 1184 pixels in this case, with a screen density at 320 dpi. Or at least that’s what AnTuTu says. It’s quite possible the machine’s display is 4.5-inches without on-screen buttons or 4.7 counting said buttons – but it’s all still up in the air until we see the final product!

Moto X benchmarks and specs slip out, point to a fine mid-tier phone

Moto X benchmarks reportedly slip

We’ve already seen Motorola’s rumored Moto X in press renders, photos, videos and even the hands of a Google executive; why not throw some benchmarks and specifications into the mix? Android Police is more than happy to add that grist to the rumor mill with a set of photos that reportedly show the AT&T Moto X (“Ghost”) running AnTuTu and 3DMark tests. If accurate, the scores hint at a mid-range Android 4.2.2 phone whose 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro and 2GB of RAM produce good (though not great) results. The rest of the visible specs are equally middle-of-the-road — we see a 720p screen, 16GB of built-in storage, NFC, a 10.5-megapixel rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front shooter. The hardware alone may not tempt customers, then, but Motorola could be counting on customization and software tricks to lure more customers. We’ll know the full story on August 1st.

Google’s Revamped Nexus 7 Spotted In Newly Leaked Press Image

nexus7-refreshed

In just a few days now, Google’s Chrome and Android chief Sundar Pichai will be joined by a slew of journalists and media types to nosh on some breakfast and show off the newly-revamped Nexus 7. If you haven’t yet had your fill of leaks, none other than @evleaks has come through with one final (seemingly press quality) image of the updated tablet and its gigantic bezels ahead of its July 24 unveiling.

Yeah, the new Asus-made tab doesn’t look too different from the version we’re all so used to, though the dimples that flecked the back of the original are gone, and that front-facing camera has finally found a friend in a 5-megapixel sensor that sits on the device’s rear. One of the bigger gains here is the addition of a much higher resolution 7-inch display — the updated 7′s screen will run at 1920 x 1200, a big leap from the 720p panel we saw the first time around. As usual, we can’t discount what’s ticking under that redesigned hood, and the new Nexus tab is expected to pack a quad-core chipset running at 1.5GHz, 2 or 4GB of RAM, and dual rear-facing speakers.

Perhaps most tantalizing is the possibility that the Nexus 7 redux will offer up our first real glimpse of Android 4.3, unless you count those leaked builds that started trickling out soon after Google began selling its Google Play Edition Ones and S4s. Mobile aficionados poking around those leaked builds have already pointed out improved touch sensitivity and support for low-energy Bluetooth, but I suspect that’s only the tip of the iceberg.

You can expect to see the new Nexus 7 in the Google Play Store, but a few big-box retailers seem to be getting in on the launch action as well — images from Staples’ internal employee news system point to a July 31 release date, but now it looks like ailing electronics retailer Best Buy is gearing up to launch the device on the 30th instead. Whether the tablet will pop up in the Play Store in ahead of then is another question entirely, but the broader retail reach from the get-go is much appreciated considering the issues Google had getting the original Nexus 7 out to its customers. Let’s just hope there are enough to go around.

New Nexus 7 press shots leaked, spotted in Best Buy ad

New Nexus 7 press shots leaked

The new Nexus 7’s official unveiling might still be a few days away, but impatient tablet fans can get a peek right now: @evleaks seems to have come across the alleged device’s official press render. The image doesn’t do much to confirm the 7-inch tablet’s internal specifications, but what we can see matches previous leaks, giving us a clearer view of the device’s rumored 5MP rear-facing camera and and a branded backside — now lacking the dimples of the original. A pair of speakers can be seen on the rear’s north and south ends and volume, power and a microphone input line the tablet’s right edge.

On the front we can see an offset front-facing shooter, an underlining notification LED and what is most likely Android 4.3. Although the press shot doesn’t reveal anything about the device’s screen, a Best Buy ad featuring it pegs it as a 1,920 x 1,200 display, pricing the 16GB variant of the upcoming tablet at $229 –$40 less than the reported price of the slate’s 32GB model. Phone Arena says the leaked ad is scheduled to run next week, placing the circular’s promised Tuesday availability for the Nexus 7 on July 30th. We’ll wait for Google to give us the full story on the 24th before jumping the gun, but if you just can’t wait, feel free to ogle Best Buy’s unreleased insert after the break.

Moto X leaks in more press shots, this time in white

Moto X leaks in more press shots, this time in white

And the saga continues! Hot on the heels of this morning’s leaked renders comes a couple more press shots of the Moto X, courtesy of @evleaks — this time in glorious unicorn white. There’s not much more to mention here other than it’s a lot easier to spot the mics front and back and to get a feel for the texture that adorns the rear. It looks very much like the svelte handset Eric Schmidt recently flaunted at the annual Allen and Co media conference. Not a fan of the existing hues? Motorola’s been pretty clear the phone will be available in custom colors — we’re longing for a beautiful shade of purple ourselves. With the official Moto X launch slated for Thursday August 1st, we’re only days away from getting all the details, so stay tuned for more.

Moto X then wearables: here’s how Motorola gets fashionable

In addition to announcing the Moto X’s official unveil date, this week the folks at Motorola Mobility have had a bit of a spill. This spill – if you could call it that – consists of details surrounding their next generation of smart devices, particularly sitting in the “wearables” realm. Could it be time to see what was most recently hoped for in the Motorola MOTOACTV rebooted here in 2013 to mix it up well with the company’s newest fully fashionable hero smartphone release?

motorola_wearables

This spill comes in the form of a list of hires, job postings made by the company that are looking to help with the expansion of “a new world-class wearables design group within Motorola.” If that’s not a good indicator for a possible big-time expansion of the sector we’ve not yet heard of, we’d like to hear what is.

“Create beautiful, Functional and Desirable objects.”

What you’ll see in the job listing – if it’s still up by the time you see this article – is a suggestion that Motorola’s search requires, first and foremost, a person that will “provide strategic leadership, champion innovation and institute best practices to create a new world-class wearable’s design group within Motorola.”

“Specifically, the Industrial Design Team collaborates closely with our internal work partners to create compelling, usable and innovative products that define our brand with over a million consumers worldwide. The wearables design team will lead the establishment of our brand in the massive competitive and growing space of wearable connected products.”

So what’s this all got to do with Moto X?

Have a peek at the Moto X reveal event invite and observe the design language:

motox-479x500

Can you spot the smartphones?

You’ll find the white version and the black version of Moto X in the hands of these hipsters, and you’ll find at least one accessory – in addition to the phone – on each of these young, cool fashionistas. Even the fellow (we’ll assume it’s a fellow) to the left is wearing a tank-top – certainly not something you wear to the office.

Add to this original Moto X advertisement released on the 3rd of July. Both humans – we’ll assume they’re humans, anyway – are wearing straight black as they jump into the sparkling greatness that is the future, straight above them the brand new Motorola logo complete with rainbow ring.

A posting to Motorola’s Google+ page shared on the 11th of July dropped this image tied to the note: “3D printers, Velcro vans, and really smart people. +MAKEwithMOTO, we like your style.” Of course MAKEwithMOTO has been around for a while longer than this tip, it’s not hard to imagine the initiative crossing paths with Moto X quite easily in the very near future. How about for those back smartphone casings, fully customizable the lot of them?

van

This equation is adding up quick: soon after the Moto X is launched and Motorola’s new aim – the user – becomes more important than making the device destroy all other devices with specifications alone, the company will set its sights on attaching itself to another appendage.

While it’s not immediately clear how Motorola, a Google company, will aim to release any sort of wearable device with Google aiming to release the ideal unit – Glass – this notoriously resilient company will make another move that’s unique.

Will it be another smartwatch? Something to keep track of your steps when you head out for your daily run – or lack thereof? Hardly.

Motorola will be getting a bit more under your skin than that.

Chrome OS beta update brings ‘immersive’ mode, smarter app search and UI tweaks

Chrome OS beta update brings 'immersive' mode, smarter app search and UI tweaks

If you’re running Chrome OS betas like it’s not even a thing, we’re pegging you as a bit of a maverick. The latest update (29.0.1537.32) rewards your non-conformity with a bevy of small, but useful new features. There’s Kernel 3.8 for the Pixel and Samsung 550 users, but likely you’re more interested in the new “immersive” full screen mode that hides the shelf and tool bar. Or, what about the ability to pin apps to the shells with drag and drop? There’s other tricks, too, such as wallpaper sync (across all your machines), UI scaling and a smarter app launcher. There’s a full list at the source, but knowing you, you already went there, right?

Moto X press image leaks ahead of August event

The cat’s finally out of the bag, and we’ll be getting our first official look at the heavily-rumored Moto X come August 1, but there are a still a few days left before that happens, leaving the door wide open for even more leaks and rumors to make their way to the front. This time around, we’re treated with a clean press shot of the Moto X.

motogo

This isn’t the first clear photo that we’ve seen of the device, as Google chairman Eric Schmidt modeled off the phone in a few “spy” shots a few days ago. That provided us a good look of the back of the device with the glossy curved shell. However, today’s press image gives us the first clear look at the front of the handset.

verizon-moto-x
MotoX-512x460
schmidt-moto-x-580x442

There’s nothing too surprising in the press image above, other than that it appears Motorola did away with the obnoxious logo on the upper-left corner that we saw in a Verizon leak earlier this month. The device also looks identical to what we saw in a leaked promo video for the Moto X.

We’ll be seeing the phone’s unveiling on the first of the month, and the only evidence we have for a public launch date is US Cellular’s leaked release date of August 26. From that, it’s probably safe to say that other major carriers will follow suit and launch the phone towards the end of the month.

What’s perhaps the most interesting tidbit is how Motorola will be conducting the unveil event on August 1. From the invitation that we received, it looks like the company might not have one grand keynote, but rather multiple sessions detailing different bits about the phone. Plus, these details will have embargo times that are lifted later in the day. It’ll be interesting how it goes, but we’ll be there to bring you the latest about the Moto X, so stick around.
