Trust the listings you find on Google Maps? You shouldn’t, because it’s dumb easy to fake them. That’s what Google Maps exploiter Bryan Seely demonstrated for me this morning. And while trolling politicians with dick jokes is never not funny, there’s also a whole sub-community of scammers turning Google Map’s little bugs into cold, hard cash.
A lady based in San Francisco had allegedly filmed her assault using a pair of Google Glass that she wore, capturing the attack in its entire process. Sarah Slocum, who happens to be a tech writer from California, did lay claim that she was harassed by patrons who were not too happy with her wearing that particular pair of Google Glass. As she was busy demonstrating her Google Glass to a friend, Slocum did claim that she was abused by another two women before another person actually snatched her Google Glass and ran off. After giving him a pursuit, both her purse and phone were nicked. Talk about having a bad day!

Google has been able to offer basic directions to users of their map service for quite some time, just like what most other map services out there offer. All you do is enter in your starting and ending destinations and then Google calculates the fastest route. It’s always been a pretty quick process, but Google wanted to make it even faster and better than some of their competitors. A posting yesterday on the Google Blog outlines what they did to create a new route-finding system which is “hundreds of times faster: it can find and describe a cross-continental shortest path in well under a second. Shorter paths can be found proportionately faster.” Even when you have a really long route, it’s still super fast.
Besides the improvements in speed, they’ve also added a few additional features over the last few months with one of them being an ‘avoid highways’ option. Now when you get directions, there will be a box that you can check so that it will avoid highways when calculating and determining your route as shown below:
Given how much processing power it takes to provide these maps and directions so quickly, I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if Google had as many servers dedicated to Google Maps as they do for Search.

A woman posted on her Facebook page that she was attacked by fellow patrons as a result of wearing her Google Glass in a local San Francisco bar on Friday. Sarah Slocum posted that while wearing the device she was confronted by two women and then had the wearable device ripped from her face by a man.
“OMG so you’ll never believe this but… I got verbally and physically assaulted and robbed last night in the city, had things thrown at me because of some *** Google Glass haters …”
wrote Slocum.
From witness reports, it appears many people were interested and excited to see the new technology in action however others nearing the “last call” expressed concern about being video recorded in public which prompted a fight outside the bar between another man and Slocum’s male companion. Slocum recovered the Google Glass device but was also robbed of her purse and phone, which have not yet been recovered.
It seems apparent that this is not the first or the last report of concerns when individuals wear Google Glass in public, as Google has recently published a “How not to be a Glasshole” guide. Geeks pay heed.

GMail Gets Some New Features
Posted in: Today's ChiliThis article was written on July 08, 2006 by CyberNet.

Just 5 days ago people started noticing a few new features in GMail and I have finally received them. There were two features, one for Spam and one for your Trash, that allowed you to completely empty the messages. This is convenient for those people who have overwhelming amounts of spam and trash but never delete the messages because of the amount of time it will take.
The third feature is the ability to apply filters to messages you have already received (as pictured above). This makes sense because most people creating a filter would want it to apply to all messages, past and present, right? One thing is for sure and it’s that these three features are definitely going to be time-savers! Nice one Google.
