It’s been awhile since we last heard about Griffin‘s PowerDock 5 charging station — back in January at CES, in fact. However, the company finally launched the new product today and is touting it as a central place to charge all of your mobile devices, including tablets, complete with five charging bays with their own USB port.
What’s quite unique about the PowerDock 5 is that it includes clear plastic dividers that separate each of the charging bays, but they also act as a support for leaning your mobile devices against, and they’re strong enough to support a full-size iPad. Griffin is marketing the PowerDock 5 for iOS device, but we reckon it can be used with just about any other device as well.
As for specifics, each USB port is rated at 10 watts (5 volts DC @ 2.1 amps). 2.1 amps is enough to adequately charge a tablet and the extra amperage can charge a smartphone faster than the traditional 1 amp would, but if there’s anything you should know about battery health, it’s that battery life can degrade over time if you overuse amps when charging a phone, so that’s something to keep in mind for the future.
We took a gander of the charging station at CES and were surprised by how light it was. It’s essentially made entirely of plastic with a rubber base on the bottom to prevent it from sliding around on tabletops. As mentioned, the plastic dividers seemed strong enough to support even the heaviest of mobile devices.
The PowerDock 5 is priced at $99.99 and is available on Belkin’s website. We should also be seeing it pop up on retailer website as well in the next few weeks as the device becomes more ubiquitous. $100 is certainly a pretty price to pay for five USB ports, but if you’re looking for a neat solution during parties where your friends can charge up, the PowerDock 5 could make the shortlist.

There’s finally a good reason not to feel complete and utter resentment towards the flight crew that made you fold and lock your seat tray up. Griffin’s Skyview is a universal hands-free adapter
I can always tell when my daughter is an art making mood. I don’t have to see her artwork to know she’s feeling artsy, I can look at her hands and tell when she’s been in the marker box. She always ends up with pink and orange swirls on her fingers and on the side of her hand. We also end up with Crayola wrappers everywhere and pieces of paper thrown all around. She typically makes a big mess but ends up with beautiful artwork.
If your kid likes to make a lot of artwork, but isn’t exactly neat about it you might want to check out a new product from Griffin called the Crayola Light Marker for iPad.
The device itself looks like your typical Crayola marker, only it has a glowing light on one end and works in conjunction with an application that runs on the iPad. Instead of drawing directly on the screen of your iPad, you draw in the air with the Light Marker. It uses the iPad’s front-facing camera to track the position of the marker. It also comes with a stand to hold the iPad in place at just the proper angle for drawing.
The app offers several different things the kids can do including a free draw where they can draw on the screen just like they would on a piece of paper with any color marker they want. The app also includes coloring pages, dot-to-dot pictures, and hide and seek pages to play with. The app is available on the app store at no cost and the Crayola Light Marker itself is available right now for $29.99(USD).
Griffin Technology is a name that is synonymous with its fair share of tablet accessories and peripherals, and here we are with the announcement of one of their latest releases, the Crayola Light Marker. The Crayola Light Marker can be said to be a new way for young artists to churn out their very own digital masterpieces by relying on innovative mobile technology.
Erica Tober, Youth Product Line Manager at Griffin, said, “iPads are wonderful for young artists, giving children an interactive landscape to engage and create. Using the front facing camera, Crayola Light Marker allows children to play and produce digital works of art without touching the screen. It’s a magical new way to create!”
Just how does the Crayola Light Marker work anyways? Well, it will be combined with a free downloadable multi-activity app, and is capable of delivering hours of colorful fun. You are able to play games, solve puzzles and even create new masterpieces with glow-in-the-dark color, although do not expect any of these “art pieces” to jump astronomically in price anytime soon.
The Crayola Light Marker is capable of sending an invisible beam of light to the iPad’s front-facing camera, where movement will be picked up in a jiffy and interpreted into drawings that will appear magically on the screen. The app itself sports a digital Crayola Crayon Box with digital markers, crayons, paintbrushes, and stamps among others, and you can also indulge in a variety of activities such as Dot to Dot, Splatter Paint, Coloring Pages, Hide ‘n Seek, Puzzles, and Free Draw. The Crayola Light Marker will be accompanied by a stand for the iPad, and can be yours for $29.99 a pop. Sounds like something worth purchasing for your little ones, especially when you want to find out for yourself just whether they have a streak of Van Gog or da Vinci in them, no?

Griffin’s Crayola Light Marker For The iPad Lets Your Kids “Paint” With Light
Posted in: Today's ChiliIf you’re looking for a new way to keep your kids entertained with the iPad, Griffin has announced the Crayola Light Marker which allows children to paint with light, a technique which many photographers are probably familiar with, although in this case it is done with the iPad and some accompanying apps that will support it. Basically while the accompanying app is running on the tablet, all your kid would have to do is point the Crayola Light Marker at it and depending on the “game” running, the marker will either allow your child to paint from a distance, use it to act as a flash light to search for things in the dark, or to color the pages in a coloring book. It looks pretty fun and is an alternative way for kids to interact with the tablet other than just swiping on it. Priced at $30, more details about Griffin’s Crayola Light Marker can be found on its website, or you can check the video above out to see it in action.

Griffin Crayola Light Marker ships
Posted in: Today's ChiliBack in January during CES 2013, we spent a little bit of hands-on time with the Griffin Crayola Light Marker. This product looks like a Crayola branded marker that you or your kids might use to draw pictures. Anyone that has kids knows how messy marker artwork can get. The mess not only gets on anything lying on the table or desk around the artwork, but on your children’s skin as well.
The cool part about the Crayola Light Marker is that your kids don’t need any paper and the marker never dries out or makes a mess. As the name implies, it uses light to allow your kids to draw directly on the screen of your iPad. The marker works in conjunction with a special Crayola app that has a number of features and games for kids to enjoy.
The app features a Hide ‘N Seek game where kids use the markers a flashlight to shine around the scene looking for specific objects. One features that kids will definitely like is Free Draw where they can draw anything they want using various digital colors. The app also offers coloring pages with pre-drawn images kids can digitally color.
Other features of the app include Dot to Dot that lets pictures appear as the kids connect the dots. Splatter Paint is another activity in the app where kids can use the marker to pop balloons and splatter paint on the background. The activity app also includes also feature allowing kids to build little jigsaw puzzles. The Crayola Light Marker also comes with a tablet holder to prop the tablet up for play in the Marker gets power from a single AA battery. The Crayola Light Marker is available for purchase now for $29.99.

When it comes to peripherals for your tablet, you will definitely be able to figure out that Griffin Technology is a name that you should take notice of, considering how they have managed to position themselves to be one of the world’s foremost creators of innovations for everyday life, with the recent announcement of the SeeSaw for iPad, as well as No. 2 Pencil Stylus for touchscreens, where these two gadgets are ideal for use in situations such as classrooms, labs or study groups.
Just what is the SeeSaw? Well, this is a lightweight, portable case that comes with a built-in carrying handle. It will be able to transform a user’s iPad into a personal or group tabletop workstation, making it balance in a steady and stable manner, which is more than ideal for viewing, tapping and typing. Not only that, with the SeeSaw, it makes things incredibly easy to hold, carry and use. As a user, you are able to quickly switch between portrait and landscape orientation, as you retain full accessibility to ports, cameras, speakers and controls. Not only that, the SeeSaw is also made out of nonporous material, which is a snap to remain clean without much effort.
As for Griffin’s No. 2 Pencil Stylus, this particular tablet accessory will help modernize the most iconic writing instrument of all time, which incidentally is the No. 2 pencil. The No.2 Pencil Stylus will be a stylus which will play nice with just about all capacitive touchscreens. Sporting a high-sensitivity rubber tip, it has been designed to mimic a finger without having to leave behind fingerprints or smudges. It is definitely a faithful reproduction of the classic yellow pencil, Griffin’s No. 2 Pencil Stylus will come with a satisfying shape, length and weight which delivers a special kind of writing feel that cannot be found in shorter, lighter styluses.
The SeeSaw will be compatible with iPad generations 2, 3 & 4, where it comes in pool blue or citron for $34.99 a pop, and the No. 2 Pencil Stylus is available for $19.99 if you want one.
