Now here is an Indiegogo project that you might want to look into – the ALYT Smart Home Manager, where it requires $100,000 in funds in order to deliver a cutting edge Android-powered platform to the masses. ALYT stands for Affordably Link Your Things, where it is a unique do-it-yourself (DIY), open source, Smart Home Manager that runs on the Android environment. WIth ALYT, one is able to manage home security systems, energy usage, entertainment systems, and home automation through an Android-powered smartphone or tablet.
This does seem to usher in an era where a smart home no longer seems to be out of reach, and the worlds of science fiction and reality meet. Consumers will find that this wireless device has its fair share of advantages, where among them include exceptional affordability (relatively speaking) when it comes to high tech home security, seamless operations and video verification during power or communications failures, exceptional connectivity via Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, ZigBee, 3.5G Cellular, Infrared and DLNA, and an easy setup procedure that does not take more than mere minutes.
Should the ALYT project raise enough funds, you can look forward to it shipping later this Fall. I suppose when we have smartphones with transparent displays ala Tony Stark’s LG device in the Iron Man movies, it would look cooler when manipulating devices like the ALYT.

LG And Harman/Kardon Partner To Deliver Quality Audio For OLED And Ultra HD TVs

Back in 2013, Nest announced the Protect which is basically another product by the company with regards to technology at home. Previously Nest was known for its smart thermostat and with the Protect, expanded its lineup.
For those unfamiliar with the Nest Protect, it’s basically a smoke and carbon monoxide detector that will go off by high levels of smoke or carbon monoxide are detected. One of its features is the “Nest Wave” that basically allows the user to turn off the alarm with a wave of the hand, but apparently it can also be unintentionally deactivated which could pose some safety issues. Amazon has finally introduced their Amazon Fire TV, where it has been touted to be the easiest, no-brainer method to watch Netflix, Prime Instant Video, Hulu Plus, WatchESPN, and others on your living room’s big screen TV. With the Fire TV, the adage of not judging a book by its cover applies, except that this is a tiny box that packs quite a big punch.

When is it too early to introduce your baby to the world of consumer electronics? Never I suppose, as you can see how young kids are able to make use of technology despite some experts in the industry claiming that one should not expose kids to stuff like tablets too early in life since it would affect some aspects of their mental development. The world is definitely taking on a green slant these days, and there are no two ways about it. After all, renewable energy makes plenty of sense considering the limited amount of fossil fuels that we have underneath the earth, and nuclear power might not be such a safe option in the long run, too. Anything LG does, Samsung wants to do better – and vice versa. This bodes well for the masses, of course, since it would mean that both companies would do their utmost best to make life better for everyone as healthy competition exists between the two. LG recently introduced their Smart Bulb, and over at Light + Building 2014, it is Samsung’s turn to debut their own version of the LED Smart Bulb at the world’s leading trade fair for architecture and technology.

We’re sure many of you guys have heard of the Nest thermostat. For those unfamiliar, the Nest thermostat is a smart device meaning that over the course of time, it will learn your habits and will be able to adjust itself accordingly.
In fact what managed to garner the Nest a huge amount of attention was the fact that it was made by former Apple designer, Tony Fadell. Safe to say that the attention and feedback that Nest was getting managed to catch the attention of Google who promptly acquired the company earlier this year for $3.2 billion. (more…)
