Dyson’s New Vacuum Cleaners Make You Feel Like a Superhero

Dyson's New Vacuum Cleaners Make You Feel Like a Superhero

There’s something strangely throttling about a Dyson device. The curves feel futuristic, and the transparent plastic shows you what’s under the hood. And the latest generation runs faster than a Formula 1 race car. You almost have to pinch yourself to remember that it’s just a vacuum cleaner.

Samsung 8K TV And Glasses-Free 3D UHD TV Reportedly Being Developed

Samsung 8K TV And Glasses Free 3D UHD TV Reportedly Being Developed

Samsung is a serious player in the TV market. The company came in full force at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas last week, showing off its slew of 4K TVs, an 85-inch shapeshifting TV as well as a monstrous 110-inch ultra-high definition TV. The buck definitely doesn’t stop here. Rumor has it that the Korean juggernaut has already begun developing an 8K TV, and a 3D UHD TV that won’t require any glasses.

Glasses-free 3D TVs have been around for quite some time now, its the sheer high resolution that would set Samsung’s 3D UHD TV apart. 4K TVs have slowly started entering the mainstream market, so its unlikely that Samsung will jeopardize further progress by coming out with something radically better at this point in time, its simply too early. Consumer-grade 8K TVs aren’t expected to hit the market until at least 2016, so even if Samsung is developed one QUHD 8K TV, its not like we’ll be able to pick one up in the near future. Perhaps the company might show off its creation at a trade show next year, but 8K TVs are quite a long way from the living room right now. Presumably the company will talk more about its future TV related plans at IFA later this year.

    Sky AdSmart Launched

Sky AdSmart LaunchedThe launch of Sky AdSmart can only mean one thing – more money for the network operator, as well as the possibility of you actually welcoming advertisements. Right now, most advertising models work this way – reach as many eyeballs as possible, and hopefully some of the folks who check it out will be emotionally engaged to actually purchase that particular product or engage a service. Well, with the launch of Sky AdSmart, it does the same thing but in a slightly different manner, that is, it will deliver targeted advertising to your TV.

Enblink Dongle Lets You Speak To Your Home Appliances

Enblink Dongle Lets You Speak To Your Home AppliancesIt makes perfect sense that as technology progresses (and in the right direction, I might add), things would get more and more complex in the back end, while life becomes (hopefully) easier for the masses. Take the humble phone for example – it has so many functions these days that affect various aspects of our lives, and from touchscreen we are now possibly making the jump to voice control. Enblink happens to jump aboard the voice-control bandwagon by virtue of being an $85 dongle which will plug itself into your Google TV box.

Smart Curtains Respond To The Presence Of Light

Smart Curtains Respond To The Presence Of LightSmart houses, smart cars, smartphones, here and now we are presented with the idea of smart curtains. Hmmm, how exactly does that work? Smart curtains do not need you to actually get up from your favorite lounging chair to close or open it, as it has the capabilities of preventing too much light from coming in whenever it is exposed to light. This was made possible thanks to the efforts by the folks over at the University of California Berkeley, who have managed to come up with a new kind of material that allows the nanotubes embedded within to activate whenever they are exposed to light.

Google Announces Acquisition Of Nest For $3.2 Billion

Google Announces Acquisition Of Nest For $3.2 BillionThermostats aren’t really given much thought, unless of course you are beautifully designed like the Nest Learning Thermostat which was launched back in 2011, which basically has the ability to adjust itself after “learning” your habits. The device saw its second iteration in 2012, and last we heard, it was integrated into Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Well it seems that somewhere along the lines Nest managed to capture the attention of none other than Google, and according to a recent announcement from Google and Google’s Sundar Pichai, they have announced that they have acquired Nest for a cool $3.2 billion in cash. Nest’s founder, Tony Fadell, stated that the acquisition will not affect the day-to-day operations, nor will it change the branding.

For the most part that is true of some of Google’s acquisitions, as we saw when the company acquired Nik Software where the Snapseed photo editing app has remained largely the same. It is unclear what Google plans on doing with Nest. After all home automation has never really been a path the company has taken in the past, but we guess now is as good a time as any to start! Nest’s vice president, Matt Rogers, also reassured users over privacy concerns, stating, “Our privacy policy clearly limits the use of customer information to providing and improving Nest’s products and services. We’ve always taken privacy seriously and this will not change.”

Sony Ultra Short Throw Projector: Hands-On

Sony Ultra Short Throw Projector: Hands OnIn a corner of Sony’s CES Booth, the company was demonstrating inspirational home electronics like a huge 147-inch projected 4K image, a projected table computer, or innocuous display art on the wall. While everything was interesting, the star of the show was this ultra short throw projector that can project a very nice 147 inch image on a nearby wall, from a distance of about 1 or 2 feet. Bedjet Bed Heater & Fan: a Weird Appliance in the Streets but a Source of Heat in the Sheets

Do you find it hard to stay warm during winter even with the heater on? Well then I envy you, because it’s always hot and humid where I am. But Mark Aramli knows that feel bro, which is why he and his colleagues Scott Milligan and Shaun K. designed the Bedjet, a localized heater and fan for beds.

The Bedjet has a nozzle that’s meant to stick under your blanket or comforter. The rest of its body stays on your floor, so you don’t have to worry about getting electrocuted or having your toes sucked in its blades. Unlike conventional heaters or electric blankets, the Bedjet can supposedly raise the temperature under your bedding by 30ºF in as little as 3 minutes. If you need it to keep cool, the Bedjet can also feed air in at room temperature.

Another neat thing about the Bedjet is that it comes with a remote control, which lets you toggle the main power as well as control the timer and blower speed of the device. The Bedjet will also get a mobile app version of the remote if they hit at least $175,000 on Kickstarter.

Pledge at least $249 (USD) on Kickstarter to get a Bedjet as a reward.

Samsung 85-Inch 4K Bendable TV Prototype Making Waves At CES

Samsung 85 Inch 4K Bendable TV Prototype Making Waves At CES

[CES 2014] A lot of announcements have been made at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2014 about new and innovative products, some might be out in the market soon while some might not progress further than the prototype stage. Samsung unveiled such a product, called the “Bendable TV,” this 85-inch 4K OLED TV can transform itself from a conventional flat screen to a curved TV at the touch of a button.

We first heard about this device back in December when it was rumored that Samsung’s prototype bendable TV will only be showed off to select journalists and analysts. That didn’t happen though, Samsung took off the wraps and let the public feast their eyes on something that might hit the market in the future. At this stage, the 85-inch 4K bendable TV is a prototype. Samsung says that giving users the ability to switch between a flat screen and a curved TV would enhance the experience, as they can easily switch the shape of the TV depending upon the content they’re watching. Even though the logic makes sense, it may still take a long time before a product like this hits the market. What Samsung is going to offer customers are a slew of curved 4K LCD TVs with screen sizes as high as 105-inches, you’ll be spoilt for choice. We got a demo of Samsung’s prototype at CES in Las Vegas and have embedded a video for your viewing pleasure. The entire process is very simple, press one button and this 85-inch TV transforms before your eyes. Go on, take a look at the future.
