Honda Uni-Cub Personal Mobility Device

Honda Uni Cub Personal Mobility Device[CEATEC 2013] I don’t know about you, but it does seem as though the personal mobility device segment in Japan is certainly heating up. Toyota had their delicious sounding “Toyota Winglet” that we saw earlier this morning, and here we are with the Honda Uni-Cub. Uni-Cub sounds a whole lot more like a personal mobility device than something that hails from a diner which specializes in selling chicken bits and pieces. The Uni-Cub does seem to work on the same principle as that of the Toyota Winglet, that is, by shifting your body weight, it will be able to help you get around without having to walk.

    Honda Micro Commuter Prototype

Honda Micro Commuter Prototype[CEATEC 2013] Toyota has their i-ROAD, and Honda will certainly not just sit back and do nothing at all about such a situation. After all, they do happen to be rivals on the motoring front, and it is hence not surprising to see that Honda has come up with what they call the Honda Micro Commuter. The Micro Commuter remains a prototype at the moment, and what we like about it is the modular ability to replace the upper segment of the ride.

This variable design platform will cater to all ages who find the design appealing, where a person who tends to transport a whole lot of goods might want an open top so that longer items like a ladder and a self-assembling cupboard or cabinet can fit, while families with young children can opt for a more rounded top so that there is an adequate amount of space for everyone. The elderly could settle for a more boxed like enclosure so that they have greater visibility and with it, a higher sense of security. It all boils down to your budget, where practical considerations can move to the luxurious.

Honda teases upcoming NSX with Concept-GT hybrid race car

Honda teases upcoming NSX with ConceptGT hybrid race car

Honda’s got a lot riding on the upcoming 2015 NSX hybrid (which will be sold in the US as an Acura). When it launched in 1990, the iconic first generation NSX took the sports car market by storm with an impressive (and affordable) combination of performance, comfort, design and build quality. Production ended in 2005 with the company shifting its focus towards hybrids and other green vehicles. As such, Honda enthusiasts have eagerly been awaiting the NSX replacement. While the new flagship is still being developed, the company just announced the NSX Concept-GT, a hybrid race car which is designed to compete in the Japanese SUPER GT series (GT500 class). Unlike the street version, which features a mid-mounted V6 and three electric motors, the Concept-GT boasts a 2.0L turbocharged direct-injection I4 paired with a “racing hybrid system“. When it launches next year, the technology-packed NSX will compete with vehicles like BMW’s i8 plug-in hybrid and Lexus’ LF-CC. %Gallery-slideshow72907%

Honda intros Project Drive-In to save outdoor movies through digital projectors (video)

Honda intros Project DriveIn to save outdoor movies through digital projectors

Drive-in theaters outlasted VHS tapes, but they may not survive the transition to digital-only movies — many drive-ins can’t afford the professional digital projectors they need to stay in business. Honda wants to give those outdoor venues a second chance through its new Project Drive-In rescue effort. At a minimum, the endeavor will donate digital projectors to five theaters based on web voting; further donations will depend on the results of an Indiegogo fundraising campaign. While there’s no guarantee that Honda can save a drive-in near you, it may be worth chipping in to preserve some classic Americana through modern technology.

Don’t You Just Love Drive-Ins? Then Help Save Some

We’ve known for a while that drive-in theaters were doomed, but like anything American, they’ve persevered. by the end of this year, though, they could be out of lifelines, which is why Honda is launching Project Drive-In today, to help save a few.

Acura NSX teaser shows supercar getting frisky in the wet

If ever there was a good reason for Instagram and Vine, Acura teasing the latest NSX prototype doing wicked things around the track ahead of its showroom debut might be the very finest. The car company has already shown us the 2015 NSX sitting pretty at NAIAS 2013 back in January, but a pair of brief videos – which you can see after the cut – give a more aurally-pleasing glimpse of the supercar.

    acura_nsx_prototype

The first video, shared on Vine, is six seconds of the mid-engined car running around a dry test track. It’s covered in what looks like a vinyl wrap with Acura Motorsports branding, but is otherwise unbadged, and we’re big fans of the blacked-out headlamps which give the car an aggressive, snaked-eyed look face on.

Arguably more exciting is the follow-up, a nine second Instagram video showing the Acura NSX having fun in the wet. That’s a good excuse to get the tail out round some test track corners and throw up some spray.

What we can’t quite get over is how great the NSX sounds: an angry V6 that, even though Honda has cooked up a new version of its electric support system for the car, doesn’t sacrifice the soundtrack.

Wet performance should benefit considerably from the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system paired with the 3.5L V6 engine. Acura will equip the 2015 NSX with a total of three electric motors, one 30 kW motor hooked up to the V6, and 20kW motor apiece for each rear wheel. They’ll be switchable, either allowing for greater torque on the outside rear wheel while the inside wheel flips into regenerative mode to keep the battery topped up, or helping shift the car into all-wheel drive, with the third motor powering the front axel.

Alternatively, it can be used to top up the car’s battery while simultaneously driving the rear wheels. That should all come in handy when the NSX takes to the Mid-Ohio Raceway come August 4, for the Honda 200 IndyCar race.

Mass production, meanwhile, won’t begin until 2015, with Honda and Acura yet to confirm final pricing but describing the NSX as a “boutique” project.

2014 Honda Fit Hybrid scores highest MPG among Japanese hybrids

Honda has announced that its 2014 Fit Hybrid has beat out all other hybrid models in Japan with a mileage rating of 36.4 km/L, which works out to about 85MPG in the United States. The small car, among other things, features three driving modes that are automatically engaged depending on the environment in which the car is being driven.

The 2013 Honda Fit Hybrid is the first to utilize a SPORT HYBRID Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive, more easily referred to as an i-DCD. This is a one-motor system that the auto maker says is best suited for small cars, and works with the EV drive by “disengaging the engine and the motor”. It falls within the company’s Earth Dreams Technology category, which aims at achieving high gas mileage.

Inside, there’s an inline 4-cylinder 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine, as well as the i-DCD’s 7-speed DCT integrated high-output motor. In addition, there’s also an Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) with a lithium-ion battery built into it. Further expanding on the system to achieve a high gas mileage rating is the braking system.

Braking is done via an electric servo brake system, which is said to increase electrical regenerative efficiency. There’s also an all-electric compressor to lessen the load on the engine. All of this, when combined, results in a system that Honda says results in a fuel economy in excess of 35-percent better than the IMA hybrid system that is currently being used.

As mentioned, there are three driving modes, each of which is triggered automatically, comprised of EV Drive Mode (motor-only), the Hybrid Drive Mode (engine and motor driving), and the Engine Drive Mode (engine-only). Sales, said Honda, will start in Japan in September.

The Honda HF2620 Lawnmower: It’s Probably Faster Than Your Car

When you’re cutting your lawn, it always seems to take a lot of time. Not anymore, thanks to this lawn mower, which can mow your lawn at speeds of up to 130 mph. OK, maybe that’s not entirely accurate, but still, it’s fast enough for the Stig from Top Gear!

Honda UK teamed up with Team Dynamics to re-engineer this lawn mower, the Honda HF2620, that has an all-new chassis. It comes with a 1000cc engine that comes from a Honda VTR Firestorm motorcycle, which produces 109hp. Thanks to this engine, the lawn mower can reach 62mph in four seconds. It’s top speed is 130 mph, and it comes with a paddle-shift six-speed gearbox.

The HF2620 can still mow your lawn, but at only 15mph. Well, at least you can get around pretty fast!

Honda’s Mean Mower runs up to 130MPH, makes yardwork exciting (video)

Honda's Mean Mower can run up to 130MPH, make yardwork exciting

Forget robotic drones; Honda’s new lawnmower can turn a dreary task into an X Games sport. Honda aptly calls it the Mean Mower and claims it can reach speeds up to 130MPH and can go from 0 to 60MPH in just four seconds. For a lawnmower to reach those staggering numbers, the company’s UK arm reached out to Team Dynamics, its British Touring Car Championship partner. They redesigned one of the company’s machines, equipped it with a motorcycle engine to make it more powerful and replaced some of its parts with fiberglass to shave off some of its weight. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean you can cut grass while speeding and drifting like Vin Diesel — its cutting cables only work if you slow it down to 15MPH. No word yet on whether the Mean Mower will hit the market, but speed devils can live their Fast and Furious lawnmowing dreams vicariously through the driver in the clip below.
