HP Releases Another Cheap Android Tablet

HP has quietly announced a new tablet. Meet the HP 8. It’s a rather mundane tablet with a ho-hum screen and above par specs. It’s nothing special. But it’s cheap and cheap sells. HP Launches Low-End Android Tablet

HP Launches Low End Android Tablet

Budget or low-end Android devices do end up doing a lot of business in the market, which is why most companies try to offer devices that cater to this segment of the market as well. HP happens to be one of those companies, and it has launched a new budget Android tablet, adding it to its U.S. tablet lineup. HP 8 1401 doesn’t offer spectacular specifications, but its $170 price point might be appealing to some customers.

The tablet has a 7.85 inch 1024×768 pixel resolution display. Under the hood there’s an ARM Cortex A9 quadcore processor coupled with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage as well as a 3,800mAh battery which HP claims is good for up to 7 hours of usage. There’s a VGA camera on the front and a fixed focus 2 megapixel shooter on the back.

Powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the tablet also has a microSD card slot for external memory expansion as well as support for 802.11n Wi-Fi. Measuring 7.6 inches x 5.4 inches x 0.3 inches, the HP 8 1401 weights roughly 11 ounces. The tablet may not have specifications to rival most $200+ tablets from ASUS, Amazon, Samsung and more available in the market, but its definitely cheaper than them, so its got that going for it.

HP: Firmware Updates Only For Customers Under Warranty After February 19

HP: Firmware Updates Only For Customers Under Warranty After February 19Now this is certainly a surprising move to just about anyone who hears about this – apparently, computing giant HP has announced that they will be offering firmware updates only to their customers who happen to be still under warranty, and this new policy is all set to kick off after February 19th. In a press release by Vice President Mary McCoy, she mentioned, “This decision reinforces our goal to provide access to the latest HP firmware, which is valuable intellectual property, for our customers who have chosen to maximize and protect their IT investments. We know this is a change from how we’ve done business in the past; however, this aligns with industry best practices and is the right decision for our customers and partners. Our customers under warranty or support coverage will not need to pay for firmware access, and we are in no way trying to force customers into purchasing extended coverage. That is, and always will be, a customer’s choice”
