HTC Denmark: HTC One X+ Misses Out On Android 4.4 KitKat

HTC Denmark: HTC One X+ Misses Out On Android 4.4 KitKatHTC might have already introduced the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system update to the flagship HTC One smartphone, and are currently working to deliver this particular update to the likes of the HTC One mini as well as the HTC One Max devices. Apart from that, many HTC fans are also waiting for confirmation on whether some of the other HTC One smartphones would be on the receiving end of such treatment. The main HTC headquarters have not yet issued anything official as at press time, but HTC Denmark has apparently gone one step ahead, sharing the upcoming plans for the HTC One X+, where an HTC rep did respond via Twitter on a question that concerns the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the HTC One X+, “We can confirm the HTC One X+ will remain on the current software version, Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5.”

HTC One X Android 4.2.2 Update Rolling Out Across Europe

HTC One X Android 4.2.2 Update Rolling Out Across Europe

Nearly ten days ago we reported that the NVIDIA Tegra 3 powered HTC One X+ was receiving the much awaited Android 4.2.2 update. This update for the company’s flagship’s variant from last year brought enhanced Sense 5 UI as well as other improvements. Soon after that update was rolled out in various regions such as Europe and Asia, the Android 4.2.2 update for HTC One X has been rolled out in those regions as well. The update, which bumps version number to 4.18.401.2, weighs in around 380MB and brings HTC Sense 5 UI on top of the core Android 4.2.2.

HTC Sense 5 debuted on the One, HTC’s 2013 flagship which was released a few months ago. So the HTC One X update brings BlinkFeed, a new lockscreen, a Quick Settings panel as well as the option to get a battery percentage icon in the status bar. This particular update is only for the European HTC One X variant, which is codenamed Endeavor, not for AT&T”s variant of the device which carries the Evita codename. It is believed that all markets in Europe will be receiving the update notification over the next few hours. The impatient ones can manually check for the update by going to Settings app and following through to the About section. HTC One X+ Android 4.2.2 software update leaked: BlinkFeed and Zoe aboard

It would appear that HTC isn’t going to keep a selection of key software features from its 2013 HTC One lineup here in the present if one (unofficial) software leak for the HTC One X+ has anything to say about it. Though Engadget’s chat with HTC suggests that this software update is not one sent […]

PSA: Why doesn’t Facebook Home work on my smartphone?

Today is the day Facebook Home is released for Android devices, and though it may seem possible to download the app for your smartphone or tablet, it won’t necessarily be in full working order this afternoon. Why would that be – you might ask? Because Facebook’s launch of Facebook Home is limited to just five devices – and one of them was just released to the market today.

    homenogo

With the HTC First you’ll have the full Facebook Home experience from top to bottom – even when you download the Facebook Home app and load it to your device that’s not an HTC First, you’ll still not have full notifications for apps in your News Feed. Other than that, it’s basically the same experience. And what about your Motorola DROID RAZR HD? You’re out of luck – for now, anyway.

The Facebook Home app is working today for four devices other than the HTC First:

    • Samsung Galaxy S III
    • Samsung Galaxy Note II
    • HTC One X
    • HTC One X+

Why these four devices? The first two devices are some of the best-selling smartphones in the past year. The HTC One X and the HTC One X+ are also some of the highest-powered smartphones on the market – and they’re all four carried by AT&T along with the HTC First. Sound like a deal behind the scenes to you?

UPDATE: According to Facebook, the following devices will be available for Facebook Home compatibility very soon! Can’t wait!

    • Samsung GALAXY S4 (Future)
    • HTC One (Future)

If you’re hankering for a partial Facebook Home experience before Facebook updates their development to handle more than just the five (make that seven) devices above, you’ll want to update your regular Facebook app and download Facebook Messenger. With Facebook Messenger you’ll get what’s easily the best part of the Facebook Home experience without needing the Facebook Home launcher: Chat Heads. Hear all about it in our Chat Heads post from earlier today!

Have a peek below at some additional Facebook Home insight as well – don’t forget to check out the HTC First review we’ve got along with our full Facebook Home review too!

Facebook Home delivered to Google Play – available for Android now

If you’ve got one of the few smartphones compatible with Facebook Home (the app) here at the launch, you’re in luck! It’s out now, available for download from the Google Play app store and it’s completely free. Devices that can download and use Facebook Home right this minute include the Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung Galaxy Note II, HTC One X, and HTC One X+ (everyone else is currently out of luck.)

What you’ll be doing to grab Facebook Home is heading to the Google Play app store and searching just that: “Facebook Home.” If you have one of the compatible phones listed above, you’ll see the app immediately and will be able to download and install with ease. When you first head back to your home screen after installing, you’ll be met by a pop-up that asks which launcher you’d like to use.

UPDATE: Facebook Home appears to be temporarily (hopefully) unavailable in the Google Play app store once again – check back soon!

UPDATE 2: Facebook Home is once again up and ready for action – you’ll be able to download it and make it work for some smartphones, but not all! Have a peek at our guide: Why doesn’t Facebook Home work on my phone?

If you choose Facebook Home, you’ll be brought into a brand new Facebook-centric universe, yours for the tapping. You’ll also want to make sure you’ve updated Facebook Messenger and your normal Facebook for Android app too – they all exist together in harmony. Have a peek at today’s “Chat Heads” update for more information on what Messenger brings to the table.

Above: Facebook’s newest advertisement for the Facebook Home experience released today.

You’ll also want to head back to SlashGear’s full Facebook Home review as well as our review of the HTC First – the first smartphone to hit the market with Facebook Home installed right out of the box. Let us know if you plan on partaking in this lovely Facebook software experience on your Android device today!

Or if you plan on skipping the Facebook Home environment entirely!

Lenovo straight up steals HTC One aesthetics for two leaked phones

The devices you’re about to see are being tipped as coming from Lenovo some time inside the 2013 Summer season, and if you’ll look closely, you’ll see how they’ve essentially lifted the styles of the HTC One X and the HTC One S top to bottom. Though HTC has moved past those devices with the more simply titled HTC One, you’ll see first and fore most that the HTC One X has had its styling looked after on both the front and back of this code-named Lenovo S920. This device is also tipped as coming with many of the same specifications as the Lenovo K900, this time with a bit more affordability attached.

The device above is also being tipped as coming with a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor, a lovely 5.3-inch touchscreen up front, and an impressive looking camera on its back with a single LED flash. You’ll also notice the resemblance to the HTC One X on the back with the raised lens and the flash partially interrupting the ring. It’s almost as if Lenovo took an HTC One X and slapped their name on it.

    htc_one_x_review_sg_2-580x413

Next you’ll see a device that, if you didn’t know better, you might mistake for the HTC One S or one of the HTC Windows Phone 8 devices revealed over the past few months, complete with the brightly-colored back panel. This is what’s being tipped as the Lenvovo S820 and, according to Unwired View, will be “primarily aimed at women.” This device will also be coming with the quad-core MediaTek MT6589 SoC.

Have a peek at the timeline below and see if you can follow Lenovo’s thought process through to this point in the smartphones they’ve had leaked above. They’ll likely be coming to China first, with a possible (though not guaranteed) launch in the USA afterward. In a much more likely situation that we’ve seen happen before, we’ll be seeing more Lenovo devices here in the USA a little less than one year from now – shown at CES 2014 with another China-only market release.

HTC One X Jelly Bean update: step by step

When you get a software update to an Android device such as the HTC One X, tapping forth to your next-generation operating system can be extremely simple. If you’re one of the many proud owners of the original HTC One X being carried by AT&T, you’re in luck – this update has gone live this week. With the update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, you’ll be getting several benefits of Google’s nearly-newest OS features.

    htc_one_x_review_sg_0-580x415

With Jelly Bean, your HTC One X will have access to Google Now. This means you’ll get that super neat collection of tabs that tell you information about your location, your friends, your status, and the weather that surrounds you. You’ll also get sports scores and pertinent information about your future – and it’s being upgraded all the time, regardless of your OS version. You’ll be able to access this feature by putting your finger to your home button and swiping upward.

Take a peek at our original Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Review for more info on this operating system update from Google!

You’ll also be able to see notifications in a whole new way with updates grouped by application and running with the ability to expand on command. This update includes your ability to view the full text of an SMS message as well as a full photo in MMS inside your notifications pull-down. You’ll also be working now with an event notifications display with descriptions of said event without needing to open an app.

And there’s a new countdown timer for your front-facing camera. That’s a pretty weird update.

To grab this update, you’ll have simply to connect to a Wi-fi network and head to:
    1. Applications
    2. Settings
    3. About Phone
    4. Check for Updates

There you’ll be tapping the button and digging your fingernails into your kneecaps with anticipation. Once you have the update downloaded, load it. And that’s it! Let us know how it went and make sure you’re making full use of Google Now – if you wish!
