HTC One Android 4.4.2 Update Rolling Out Across The Pond

HTC-One-10

The HTC One was one of the few smartphones released last year that really caught the market’s attention. Even if it didn’t do wonders for HTC’s balance sheets, the smartphone was very well received, highly praised for its premium build quality and design. Users have been waiting for a long time to receive the latest Android update, so far there hasn’t been much progress on that front. Scattered reports from the internet reveal that HTC One Android 4.4.2 update might be rolling out across the pond, with people based in several European markets confirming to have received the latest iteration of KitKat.

It goes without saying that people with carrier locked smartphones have to wait longer to receive the latest software updates. HTC One owners in the U.S. have been anxiously waiting for Android 4.4 KitKat to drop. Released late last year, the update brings a few visual enhancements as well as improvements under the hood. HTC U.S. has finally confirmed that the update has now entered carrier testing, and if all goes according to plan, the roll out may begin in the very near future.

HTC Said To Be Planning Larger Screen Version Of HTC One Flagship Smartphone For March

    htc-one-review02

HTC is said to be readying the next generation of the HTC One, which will keep the same simple moniker but offer up a larger display and a camera with a so-called “twin-sensor” rear-facing camera, according to Bloomberg (via Verge). The screen will be at least 5-inches diagonally, which is slightly larger than the existing 4.7-inch HTC One, but overall the design will resemble that of its predecessor.

I’m feeling conflicted about this new device: On the one hand, the HTC One is easily one of the top three best Android phones of 2013; on the other, it’s clear that the HTC One didn’t do much to turn around HTC’s flagging fortunes, despite the extremely positive reception it had among press and the few people who did buy one.

Still, maybe a year of positive press and hype associated with the HTC One name will help the Taiwanese company move more units this time around, paired with a bigger screen (which seems to be high on customer want lists) as well as this improved camera, which is said to offer better focus performance, improved depth of field and better image quality overall, according to Bloomberg’s source.

As sad is it to say, HTC doesn’t need another smartphone that appeals to the connoisseur crowd: It needs a runaway mass-market success. They did great work with the HTC One, but sticking close to the original design in this case does mean they run the risk of shipping another beloved but mostly ignored device.

    Original HTC One Prototype Revealed

Original HTC One Prototype RevealedWe’re sure most of you guys know by now that all the products we see in the market today are typically the result of multiple revisions and changes made over the course of its development. After all we doubt many products kept its original design, and the HTC One is no different. Released back in 2013, the HTC one was an interesting handset and featured an aluminum build which was a nice change compared to the use of plastic. It featured front-facing stereo speakers which made for a nicer experience when watching videos on your phone, and packed an interesting Ultrapixel camera which did away with the megapixel race that other OEMs seemed to be aiming for.

Well thanks to the folks at Engadget, they have managed to get an exclusive look at the HTC One prototype which has finally broken cover after about a year. Needless to say apart from the back of the device, the front of the prototype is nothing like the final product as it does seem to be missing the stereo speakers. The photos also show that HTC had long planned on shifting the home button to the right side, a somewhat controversial move, although in the final product the HTC logo replaced the multitasking soft key. The prototype also appeared to be a little fatter due to the screen protruding slightly. In any case if you’d like to check out the rest of the photos, be sure to hit up Engadget’s website for the details!
