HTC Details Android 4.4 Update Roadmap For HTC One And Droid DNA

HTC Details Android 4.4 Update Roadmap For HTC One And Droid DNA

Ever since Google announced Android 4.4 KitKat, Android users have been itching to know when the update is going to drop for their particular devices. Some OEMs have detailed their roadmaps, at least for their flagship devices. HTC has offered additional details about the update roadmap for this year’s flagship, the HTC One, as well as the Droid DNA. Rest assured, the Taiwanese manufacturer has every intention to release KitKat for both of these devices, but its going to take some time.

The company revealed these details through its official HTC USA Twitter account. On Android 4.4 KitKat for Droid DNA, HTC says that the update is going to be released by the end of Q1, 2014, so that’s basically a four month timeframe which is “pending certification from your carrier.” What this means is that carrier testing of the update might delay its release beyond the timeframe, it can’t be said for sure, but it certainly is a possibility. HTC One owners on Verizon have yet to receive the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, the compay says that the update for compatibility will happen this week and Android 4.3 itself will come in December. It was quick to point out that the delay in Android 4.3 release isn’t going to delay the delivery of Android 4.4 KitKat with HTC Sense 5.5, which is scheduled to drop by the end of January, 2014.

Google has already released Android 4.4 KitKat for its Nexus devices, the next in line are the Google Play Edition variants of the HTC One and the Galaxy S4. Google Play Edition handsets receive the update directly from Google, just like Nexus devices. HTC has announced via Twitter that it has delivered the KitKat update code to Google for the Google Play Edition HTC One. The timing of KitKat’s roll out will now be “determined by Google.”

HTC was actually one of the first OEMs to reveal Android 4.4 update roadmap for its flagship after Google unveiled the firmware. The Taiwanese manufacturer has already confirmed that all variants of the HTC One in the U.S. are going to receive the latest Android update within 90 days. As far as the Google Play Edition variant is concerned, it may only be a matter of days before Google starts to roll out the update. The Gramohorn II: Accoustic Speakers Gone Wild

The HTC One has been a pleasant phone to own, ever since I upgraded from my iPhone. But I have to say that I’ve never considered adding on a pair of 3D-printed speakers that cost thousands of dollars. These speakers look interesting, but they’ll cost you quite a bit of cash.

The Gramohorn II speakers are designed to amplify the sound of your HTC phone. They were based on a commission by HTC UK from Justin Wolter. They are supposed to be able to boost the HTC’s included speakers’ volume by 50%.

Gramohorn II works with the HTC One family of phones, from the HTC One, the HTC One Mini and the HTC One Max, thanks to a changeable cradle. The plaster resin version will cost you approximately $1,610(USD) while the milled stainless steel version will fetch a whopping $8,030.

HTC One Units In North America To Receive Android 4.4 KitKat Within 90 Days

HTC One Units In North America To Receive Android 4.4 KitKat Within 90 DaysOne of the downsides to Android devices is that when an update is announced by Google, it usually is a mystery as to whether manufacturer will make an update available for their products. Not to mention there are times when an update has to receive carrier approval first, meaning that there is an additional level of delay from the update’s announcement to its actual deployment. Well the good news for HTC One users is that if you’re looking forward to the recently announced Android 4.4 KitKat, you can expect the update to make its way onto your device within a 90-day time frame.

This was announced by Jason Mackenzie, the President of HTC America who confirmed in an interview with Engadget that the update will be pushed out as quickly as possible. HTC One Play Edition handsets can look forward to the update within the next 15 days, while the Developer and Unlocked editions of the handset can expect it in 30 days. The rest of the HTC One handsets in the US, along with carrier versions, can look forward to the Android 4.4 KitKat update in 90 days. It should be noted that Mackenzie speaks on behalf of HTC’s North American operations, so there’s no telling if HTC One units around the world can expect the same treatment, but we reckon it’s still pretty good news nonetheless.
