Android 4.3 For Sprint HTC One Rolling Out Today

Android 4.3 For Sprint HTC One Rolling Out Today

Sprint customers can rejoice as they are the first users of a carrier branded HTC One that is receiving the latest Android update today. HTC USA President Jason Mackenzie has confirmed that Android 4.3 for Sprint HTC One is going to be pushed out today. The company has already released said update across the border in Canada, as well as in a number of other markets. It remains to be seen when the update will be available for other carriers in the U.S., surely their customers can’t wait any longer to update their devices to Android 4.3.

We reported a few days ago when HTC confirmed that it had started rolling out Android 4.3 for international/unbranded versions of the HTC One. The company had said earlier this year that it would roll out the update for everyone by the end of September. HTC said last week that while Android 4.3 had been rolled out for other variants in due time, customers who were using a carrier branded HTC One in the U.S. would have to wait slightly longer. Back then it was not said when exactly the update will be rolled out. As of today, Sprint HTC One users can update their devices to Android 4.3. Hopefully subscribers of other U.S. carriers will be in business soon as well.

HTC Moves To Tweak The HTC One Ahead Of Possible U.S. Import Ban

    htc-one-review02

Things could get even worse for HTC if the battered smartphone maker doesn’t move quickly. The WSJ is reporting that following a preliminary U.S. court win by Nokia, HTC is facing a possible import ban in its major overseas markets including the U.S. The ruling covers older HTC phones, but apparently the hot HTC One and other new devices also utilize the same radio technology covered in the lawsuit.

The WSJ is reporting that HTC is now working with Qualcomm to alter components to prevent another possible lawsuit. HTC is in rough shape as it is. Another lawsuit, or worse, an import ban, would douse the smartphone maker with more water as it tries to bail its already-sinking ship.

HTC is expected to report its first quarterly loss since its 2002 initial public offering. HTC is desperate, recently unloading its equity in Beats Electronics to try to shore up the smartphone maker’s cash balances. Once a top player in Android, HTC’s marketshare is shrinking, leading it to look at alternative markets including building a mobile OS for the Chinese market.

Nokia spokesman Mark Durrant told the Journal that even though the Nokia lawsuit started in 2012, before the HTC One hit the market, Nokia believes the One also violates its patents and would be included under any potential International Trade Commission ban.

HTC apparently has time before the final ruling in January 2014 to convince the ITC to reverse this ruling or present a workaround. It’s unclear at this time what HTC’s course of action might be, but this just adds to the company’s already overloaded pack animal. It likely won’t take much more to break its proverbial back.

Galaxy Note 3 not the only one free of “benchmark shenanigans” accusations

As the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 appears on US-shores we’ve seen talk of not quite on-the-level benchmark boosting by the likes of what, at first, would seem to be the manufacturer of the smartphone. This report originates with Ars Technica where they suggest that the smoking gun is the fact that this smartphone brings up […]

U.S. Carrier Branded HTC One Will Receive Android 4.3 Update Slightly Late

U.S. Carrier Branded HTC One Will Receive Android 4.3 Update Slightly Late

It goes without saying that a lot of HTC One users are waiting for the Android 4.3 update. The update has already begun rolling out across different regions for users who have developer edition or unbranded units, in time to meet HTC’s self-imposed deadline of rolling out the update before the end of September. However, those who possess U.S. carrier branded HTC One will have to wait for a bit longer, says HTC executive Jason Mackenzie.

A few weeks ago HTC said that it was working hard to roll out Android 4.3 as well as a HTC Sense update to users, it said that the roll out would be completed by the end of September. The month has nearly ended yet there’s no sign of the update for customers with carrier branded units. Mackenzie confirmed via Twitter that the update has already started rolling out for unlocked/unbranded units, adding that carrier models will “slightly miss” the September deadline. He assures everything that they’ll be kept updated on the process. Mackenzie mentions that U.S. carriers are all “very supportive,” but doesn’t say exactly how long will it take for the Android 4.3 update to hit customers. One can only hope that it doesn’t end up taking a lot of time.

Recent rumors are suggesting that HTC is working on an updated model of the One smartphone. HTC One To Receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update This Week

HTC One To Receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update This WeekWord that hails right from the mouth of an official source is what most of us would like to hear when it comes to the unveiling or release of a particular device or update. Case in point, Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC America, tweeted that the HTC One will finally be on the receiving end of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update before September comes to a close. Not only that, those who happen to have the HTC One Developer Edition sitting pretty in their pockets will also be receiving the last of the Jelly Bean builds from this week onward. We do wonder whether the rumored HTC One with an octa-core processor will arrive with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in tow assuming that rumor turns out to be true.

As for those of you out there who happen to own the HTC Droid DNA, the outlook is not all that optimistic, since the HTC Droid DNA will only be on the receiving end of Sense 5.0 alongside an update to Android 4.2.2, which means there is no Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in sight. Ah well, at least Sense 5 will offer BlinkFeed to keep the other features on the smartphone company. Something is better than nothing, right?

HTC One With Octa-Core Processor In The Works? [Rumor]

HTC One With Octa Core Processor In The Works? [Rumor]The HTC One was announced and released earlier this year and while the handset featured some pretty impressive hardware and was met with generally positive reviews, sales of the device weren’t that impressive and perhaps the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 played a part. In any case it looks like the HTC One could be on the end of a hardware refresh, thanks to a screenshot sent in to Greek website, Tech Community. According to the screenshot, it alleges that the HTC One would get a hardware update where it would see its quad-core processor upgraded to an octa-core processor, and see its RAM bumped from 2GB to 3GB.

It is unclear who will be making the octa-core chipset for HTC because obviously it won’t be Samsung who will want to keep the Exynos lineup an exclusive for their own phones, and while MediaTek comes to mind, theirs is based on the Cortex-A7 design which isn’t the most powerful chipset at the moment. Of course the screenshot could be a fake since it won’t be hard to photoshop the words “Octa-core” into the menu, but what do you guys think? Could we be seeing an octa-core HTC One handset in the near future?
