HTC Wants To Harness Your Smartphone’s Idle Power To Make The World A Better Place

HTC is wacky – in a good way. The smartphone company is one of the few that still does things that surprise me, and today’s MWC announcements are no exception. Sure, the Taiwanese company introduced a new mid-range handset that’s par for the course, but it also unveiled a new app and service that puts your smartphone to work when it’s not in use, for the good of all humanity. HTC One For AT&T Receives Android 4.4 KitKat Update

HTC One For AT&T Receives Android 4.4 KitKat UpdateT-Mobile users were probably gloating just last week when the carrier released Android 4.4.2 KitKat for the HTC One, but it looks like the gloating period is over as AT&T has announced on their blog that the Android 4.4 KitKat update will be rolling out to their HTC One customers this week, starting from today. The carrier has announced that HTC One users can look forward to the update starting from today, so if you’re a HTC One user on AT&T’s network, you might want to keep an eye out for the update which weighs in a little over 600MB, although AT&T has advised that you have at least 50% battery while installing the update just in case your phone dies mid-update which could prove troublesome.

According to AT&T, the update will introduce the usual Android KitKat improvements and changes, like an improved user interface. The update will also bring about a new phone dialer app that allows for users to look for contacts directly from the dialer itself. There will also be caller ID where the phone will attempt to look for businesses with a local listing should you receive a call from a number not saved in your phone. There will also be a new HTC Sense 5.5 UI introduced with the update, and the new HTC BlinkFeed app. For those who are too impatient, you can attempt to manually pull the update by going to your phone’s Settings, About Phone, System Updates, Select Download.

HTC Desire 8/HTC A5 Specs “Confirmed”

HTC Desire 8/HTC A5 Specs ConfirmedThanks to a leaked photo the other day, a certain HTC Desire 8 handset was revealed. The handset’s design and existence was then confirmed by HTC themselves when they teased its announcement for the 24th of February in Beijing. The specs of the handset were only rumors back then, but they have since been “confirmed” by the ever reliable @evleaks whose recent tweet revealed the specs of the handset, which coincidentally enough corroborates the earlier rumors as they appear to be more or less the same.

Now we knew that the HTC Desire 8 was not a high-end device, but rather one with mid-ranged specs, and these are the specs according to @evleaks. For starters we can look forward to a 5.5-inch 720p HD SuperLCD display. The handset will also be powered by a Qualcomm MSM8928 quad-core chipset clocked at 1.6GHz. it will be accompanied by 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage that can be expanded via microSD, a 13MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP front-facing camera, HTC’s Sense 6.0 UI, BoomSound (basically front-facing stereo speakers like the HTC One), and will be available in black, white, red, yellow, and purple. Interestingly enough @evleaks has referred to the handset as the HTC A5, although many are speculating that they could be the same device, just with different names for different markets.
