HTC Infographic Details Lengthy Process Of An Android Update

Whenever Google pushes out a new Android update, Nexus devices are always the front in line to receive said update. Android users that own devices manufactured by a plethora of other OEMs receive the update at a later date, whereas significant delays are involved if that device happens to be locked to a carrier. This often leads to customers venting about the inavailability of the update. HTC has published an infographic on its website which details exactly how an Android update is readied before it is ultimately pushed out to the end users.

Basically there are three kinds of Android devices, the unlocked or developer edition devices, carrier locked devices and Google Play Edition devices. GPE devices offer the “Nexus” experience, meaning that they are next in line after actual Nexus devices when an Android update is released. For carrier locked or unlocked devices a lot of complicated steps are involved which includes back and forth of code from Google to OEMs to carriers. A slight hiccup at any one step can result into a substantial delay, which can definitely aggravate anxious customers. The infographic is definitely a good read for all those who have wondered just how the entire Android update process works, since the relatively slow roll out of latest updates often tend to be one of the biggest issues that people have with Google’s mobile platform.

Alleged 3D Printout Of The HTC One Two Gets Pictured

Alleged 3D Printout Of The HTC One Two Gets PicturedCome 2014, many are expecting HTC to release a follow-up handset to 2013’s HTC One handset. We have heard the rumors which have suggested that the handset could be known as the HTC M8, although recent rumors have suggested otherwise, instead referring to the handset as the HTC One Two which is apparently not a single device, but rather the name of a lineup of new devices from the Taiwanese company. In any case thanks to a newly leaked photo, we might have an idea of what the HTC One’s successor could look like, which is to say it will look exactly the same as the HTC One.

This is based on leaked images of a 3D printout of the handset which is supposedly based on specifications of the HTC One’s successor. For the most part it looks like there isn’t a huge change in terms of design, although its edges do seem a tad rounder. While we can’t tell based on the 3D printout, the handset is also rumored to be keeping the Boomsound speakers on the top and bottom of the handset, providing a stereo sound effect when held horizontally. The device is also rumored to sport a slightly larger display at 5”, a slight upgrade over the HTC One’s 4.7” display.

If anything this 3D printout is similar to what we have seen in the past, but until we get the official word, take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we will learn more at either CES or MWC 2014, both of which are around the corner.

HTC One Two (One 2) Could Be A Series Of Phones, Not Just A Single Device [Rumor]

HTC One Two (One 2) Could Be A Series Of Phones, Not Just A Single Device [Rumor]We have heard the rumors that HTC is planning on launching a successor to the HTC One of 2013, and if the rumors are to be believed, there is a good chance the handset could be known as the HTC One Two (or HTC One 2, whichever you prefer). However according to recent reports, it has been suggested that the HTC One Two will not be the name of the handset itself, but rather it could be the name of a lineup of HTC devices. Back in 2012 HTC launched the HTC One series of handsets which consisted of the One X, One S, and One V, so we suppose this would not be completely out of the question.

According to the reported which was originated from an analyst from Taipei, Wilson Miao, the handset will allegedly come with separate lenses that have been designed for either low or high lighting conditions. However given that recently leaked photos of the HTC One’s successor does not seem to point to separate lenses, take this one with a grain of salt for now. While a HTC publicist was reported as saying that “it’s kind of too early” to be discussing 2014’s lineup, analysts are expecting its successor to come around March 2014.

The HTC One was announced earlier this year so we would have expected to see a similar timeframe in 2014 as well, but since CES and MWC 2014 are around the corner, perhaps we will learn more there, so check back with us  then for more details.

HTC Desire 400 Announced In Russia And Ukraine

HTC Desire 400 Announced In Russia And UkraineWhile HTC has been relatively quiet these days, it does not necessarily mean that the company is sitting on their hands and doing nothing. Over in Russia and Ukraine, it would seem as though the Taiwanese company has quietly launched a brand new device that joins HTC’s Desire lineup as the HTC Desire 400. The handset is a dual SIM device which means that two SIM cards can be used in the phone with the option of switching between either to make calls or to send messages, making it a handy solution for those who have multiple SIMs but would rather not carry multiple devices around with them.

However it seems that both the Russian and Ukrainian website have conflicting details on the specs of the handset. We’re not sure if it’s because HTC released different specs for different markets, or if one of them has it wrong. In any case according to the specs, we can look forward to a 4.3” 480×800 display with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor (dual-core according to Ukrainian website), 1GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage, an 8MP rear-facing camera (5MP on Ukrainian page), and a 1/6 front-facing camera (VGA front-facing according to HTC Ukraine). No word on availability or pricing just yet, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information as it becomes available.

Nokia Wins Injunction Against HTC In Germany

Nokia Wins Injunction Against HTC In GermanyIt was only recently that Nokia won an injunction against HTC products in the UK, although the ban was later relaxed. Nokia had also recently gone after HTC over in France and now it looks like even n Germany, HTC is not safe. According to the latest reports, it seems that Nokia has managed to win an injunction against HTC over in Germany over infringement of a Nokia patent. In this case it would basically cover all HTC Android devices that use “USB ports” for connecting to a PC, which we guess would basically cover all of HTC’s devices.

If Nokia wants to enforce the ruling including the recalling of all infringing devices, they would have to post a bond of around $68 million. In a statement released by Nokia following the decision,”Today’s judgment is another significant milestone in our on-going dispute with HTC, enabling Nokia to enforce an injunction against the import and sale of all infringing HTC products in Germany, as well as to obtain damages for past infringement. This patent is also already in suit against HTC in the UK.” We wouldn’t be surprised if HTC isn’t too pleased by this decision and we expect that they will most likely attempt to appeal it.

HTC One Successor Rumored To Run Android 4.4.2 With Sense 6

HTC One Successor Rumored To Run Android 4.4.2 With Sense 6While the HTC One was a pretty solid handset, it unfortunately did not do as well as it should have thanks to its delays which eventually saw the Samsung Galaxy S4 overshadow it, despite it having been announced earlier. However come 2014, HTC is expected to launch a successor to the HTC One, which at the moment is tentatively known as the HTC M8, although there are some who are referring it to the HTC One Two, which in all honesty sounds a bit silly. As far as specs and its design are concerned, we have a good idea of what to expect, although at the moment they are just rumors, but what about the software side?

Well according to a tweet by @LlabTooFeR, it seems that we can look forward to the HTC One’s successor to come with Android 4.4.2 KitKat preinstalled, as well as a the next version of the company’s Sense UI, which we can only assume is Sense 6. This is good news especially since Android 4.4.2 is the latest build of Android at the moment, meaning that would-be customers can look forward to the latest software and not worry about playing catchup. As far as Sense 6 is concerned, we’re not sure what we might be able to expect, but hopefully we will learn more as CES and MWC 2014 come around.

As a quick recap of its rumored specs for those who might have missed the news, the HTC One successor is rumored to feature a 5” Full HD 1080p display. It is also rumored to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and could sport the same Ultrapixel camera and Boomsound speakers found on the HTC One.

Nokia Files Lawsuit Against HTC In France

Nokia Files Lawsuit Against HTC In FranceWhile Nokia and HTC’s legal tussle might not be as high-profiled compared to Apple vs. Samsung, it has been going on for quite a bit and according to reports so far, Nokia has managed to win injunctions against HTC over in Germany and recently in the UK as well, and not content with just those particular countries in Europe, reports are now claiming that Nokia is looking to sue HTC over in France, presumably with the intent to have HTC’s products banned from being sold as well. The lawsuit in question is the same one that Nokia has used previously and covers the same patents as well.

It is unclear as to what the outcome of this lawsuit would be, but given that Nokia has been successful against suing HTC over in Germany and the UK, we wouldn’t be completely surprised if they were to achieve similar success over in France as well. As it stands it was the HTC One mini that was the first of HTC’s lineup to face the import ban (which was then promptly been overturned), so even though it could have been a potential loss in sales, we suppose HTC should be thankful that it wasn’t one of their flagship devices that was affected. We’ll be keeping an eye for more updates regarding Nokia and HTC’s lawsuit in France, so check back with us later for more details.
