HTC One Mini Faces Casing Shortages, Could Spell Trouble For HTC

HTC One Mini Faces Casing Shortages, Could Spell Trouble For HTCThe HTC One mini was announced earlier this year, but it seems that HTC might be running into some issues with regards to the production of the casings for the handset, which some believe has led to poor third quarter sales for the company.  As it stands, HTC is only selling about 200,000 units of the HTC One mini every month which might seem like a huge number for the layman, is definitely not great as far as manufacturers are concerned, at least compared to tech giants such as Samsung or Apple who managed to sell 9 million iPhone units over the weekend alone.

Analysts predict that if HTC does not manage to get their supply chain “fixed”, it could lead to pretty grim results in Q3. In any case HTC has been struggling for quite a while now so this does not come as a complete surprise. In fact there have been rumors that HTC could be creating a new operating system designed specifically for the Chinese market which could help them gain some market share in the future, especially since the market at the moment is being dominated by Samsung and Apple. Either way Q3 for HTC is expected to end next week, so we guess we won’t have to wait too long to see how big of a loss HTC will be posting.

HTC One To Receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update This Week

HTC One To Receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update This WeekWord that hails right from the mouth of an official source is what most of us would like to hear when it comes to the unveiling or release of a particular device or update. Case in point, Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC America, tweeted that the HTC One will finally be on the receiving end of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update before September comes to a close. Not only that, those who happen to have the HTC One Developer Edition sitting pretty in their pockets will also be receiving the last of the Jelly Bean builds from this week onward. We do wonder whether the rumored HTC One with an octa-core processor will arrive with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in tow assuming that rumor turns out to be true.

As for those of you out there who happen to own the HTC Droid DNA, the outlook is not all that optimistic, since the HTC Droid DNA will only be on the receiving end of Sense 5.0 alongside an update to Android 4.2.2, which means there is no Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in sight. Ah well, at least Sense 5 will offer BlinkFeed to keep the other features on the smartphone company. Something is better than nothing, right?

Preliminary ITC Ruling Could See US Import Ban Of HTC Devices

Preliminary ITC Ruling Could See US Import Ban Of HTC DevicesIt has been a while since we heard anything about the legal tussle that both Nokia and HTC are embroiled in. Well it looks like in a preliminary ITC ruling, it seems that the courts might have favored Nokia and agreed with Nokia’s claims that HTC had infringed upon some of their patents, a ruling which could lead to a import ban of HTC devices into the US. According to the preliminary order, “The Administrative Law Judge hereby determines that a violation of Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930, as amended, has been found in the importation into the United States, the sale for importation, or the sale within the United States after importation of certain electronic devices, including mobile phones and tablet computers, and components thereof, in connection with the claims of U.S. Patent Nos. 7,415,247 and 6,393,260.”

It is more than likely that HTC will petition this ruling to get it reviewed and possibly overturned, but worst comes to worst, we expect that HTC will eventually end up making a deal with Nokia where they will pay them a licensing fee for whatever patents they might have infringed upon. It was only earlier this year that Nokia beat HTC in the Netherlands which saw a similar preliminary injunction as well.

HTC Could Be Official Hardware Partner Of CyanogenMod

HTC Could Be Official Hardware Partner Of CyanogenMod At the Cyanogen Inc. formation announcement, there was a particularly interesting bit of information that was pointed out by those who went through the entire announcement with a keen eye for detail. It seems that Cyanogen Inc. are currently in cahoots, or rather, partnership, with a major smartphone OEM. This deal has already been struck, but the official announcement is set to be announced in a few weeks’ time. CyanogenMod fans would be extremely happy to hear this particular news, where it translates to being able to buy an official CyanogenMod handset sometime in 2014.

As for the mystery suitor in this case, Blog of Mobile claims that HTC are the ones who are actually the unnamed major smartphone OEM. This particular report first made its way to the Internet after drawing inspiration from a post on Ruliweb forums. While it might be that Cyanogen Inc. office and the HTC Developer Center branch happen to be located in Seattle, only time will tell whether their hardware collaborations, if confirmed, are able to bring HTC up to the next level in terms of the pecking order. Who do you think would do a better job as being the official hardware partner of Cyanogen?

HTC One Mini Gets Firmware Update

HTC One Mini Gets Firmware UpdateThere is nothing quite like a firmware update to give an aging device a new lease of life, is there? HTC has just rolled out a new firmware update for the HTC One Mini, where it is said that this particular update will be able to fix several bugs as well as improve on the device’s stability after installation. The entire firmware update itself is not to be trifled with, we are looking at a 214MB chunk of data to be downloaded.

Needless to say, this will not be an upgrade over to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, because the changelog of this particular firmware update has been designated as v1.32.401.2, where it is also said to include camera stability improvements, microphone and audio stability enhancements as well as performance improvements including a more stable USB tethering experience. So far, HTC has confirmed the various improvements and enhancements that we talked about above. For those who have given this firmware update a go, how do you find it so far, and has it been treating you well?

Basically, here is a quick word of advice if you want to install this update – download it via a Wi-Fi connection and make sure your handset has enough juice before proceeding.

HTC Desire 601 Hits The FCC

HTC Desire 601 Hits The FCCWell, you know for sure that a particular device is about to arrive in the mainstream market when it appears on the FCC, and the same can be said for the HTC Desire 601. Much has been leaked about it, but there was still no exact release date as well as pricing details for the HTC Desire 601. I guess all of that will change now, with the smartphone from Taiwanese manufacturer HTC making a splash over at the FCC. So far, in the FCC listing itself, it sports compatibility with Sprint’s LTE bands, alongside the HTC Desire 601′s codename of “Zara” seen in the build number.

In the past, the folks over at @evleaks did post something about the HTC Desire 601 making its way over to Virgin Mobile. There is a very high chance of that happening now, considering how Virgin Mobile happens to be a wholly owned subsidiary of Sprint. Apart from that, the FCC filing did reveal additional information such as Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean arriving right out of the box, not to mention other hardware specifications such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity. Would you pick up the HTC Desire 601 when it arrives, or have you set your sights on something fancier?

The Rumored HTC One Max Even Makes a Galaxy Note 3 Look SmallHTC’s much-rumored Galaxy Note competitor, the 5.9-inch One Max, is expected to be a whopper—but some leaked photos show that it even manages to make its rival look a little small.

HTC Desire 601 shows up at the FCC, likely headed to Sprint or Virgin Mobile

HTC Desire 601 shows up at the FCC, likely headed to Sprint or Virgin Mobile

While we’ve already spent precious quality time with the HTC Desire 601, we still weren’t sure where exactly this mid-range smartphone would be available. Well, if this FCC listing is any indication, it could be arriving stateside some time soon, and with Sprint’s LTE bands in tow. The documents show a HTC handset with the 601’s “Zara” codename in the build number (as seen above) as well as support for LTE band 25, which seemingly points it in the Now Network’s direction. This also lends credence to an @evleaks tweet posted two weeks ago that claimed the Desire 601 was headed to Virgin Mobile, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sprint. Other tidbits revealed from the FCC filing include Android 4.2.2 as the firmware and features such as WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC, most of which we already knew. Alas, we don’t yet know the pricing and availability of the device, but we’re guessing it’ll show up any day now. In the meantime, treat yourselves to our in-depth hands-on to see if it’s worth the wait.
