HTC Might Focus On Android Exclusively (Rumor)

HTC Might Focus On Android Exclusively (Rumor)HTC has been churning out smartphones for as long as we can remember, and along the way, they have veered slightly off the beaten Android path by introducing Windows Phone handsets, although those are few and far in between. The latest rumors to make its rounds claim that HTC is looking to ditch the Windows Phone platform for good, and keep their laser sharp focus on Android exclusively.

This particular rumor came about from a Digitimes report which cited unnamed sources (as usual) that the extremely low sales volume as well as strong competition from their Finnish rivals, Nokia, where Windows Phone devices are concerned, has taken the wind out of HTC’s sails, and it has caused the higher management to mull over ditching the Windows Mobile platform for good, and concentrate solely on the Android mobile operating system instead. Do you think that this rumor is true, and assuming it is, will it be able to help HTC get out of the doldrums? They do, after all, seem to remain stuck between a rock and a hard place – and will be for some time to come. The HTC One has proven itself to be a solid piece of top notch hardware, but there is the public perception issue that HTC needs to win first.

    HTC: Hell That’s Confusing

    htc

After much fanfare including a mundane video teaser, HTC just released the first part of their latest advertising campaign. Starring Robert “Iron Man” Downey Jr. the video spot is, well, memorable. It’s a touch crazy, a bit confusing, and doesn’t showcase anything HTC makes. But you won’t forget it. And that’s what makes for an effective ad.

As Natasha explained when HTC released the teaser, HTC is asking, almost rhetorically, what their initials stand for. Like “Humongous Tinfoil Catamaran” and ”Hipster Troll Carwash,” says the ad. You get it. Hyper Tongue Circus. Hello, Titicaca Coast. Hippopotamuses Tightroping Carelessly.

There’s good reason for this. Despite being a major player in Android since the very beginning, HTC isn’t a household name. These clever, and mostly silly acronyms, will act as a sort of mnemonic for the brand.

Because, really, anything is better than High Tech Computer Corporation, which is what the initials really stand for. Not very catchy.

HTC Robert Downey Jr. full-length ad incites attention with confusion

HTC revealed its new global brand strategy a few days ago by teasing a new ad campaign called “Here’s To Change”, featuring Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. as the new celebrity spokesperson for the smartphone company. Today, the full-length ad is ready for your viewing, and it simply just raises more questions than it […]

Verizon’s HTC One sign-up page is live, still no confirmed ship date

Back in June, Verizon gave us fair warning that it would start selling the HTC One “later this summer.” Well, we’re just about halfway through August, and while you can’t buy a VZW One just yet, you can at least let Verizon know you’re interested. The carrier has added a sign-up page to its website, where eager beavers can put in their e-mail addresses so that they’ll be the first to receive more information as it becomes available. Unfortunately, that splash page says nothing about when the device might ship or what it will cost with the usual two-year agreement. So for now, then, this page is really just for the most impatient of HTC fans.

HTC Likely To Move Away From Windows Phone 8

HTC Likely To Move Away From Windows Phone 8

With the longstanding duopoly of iOS and Android, a number of mobile platforms constantly wage battle for the third position in the global market. In some markets BlackBerry is ahead of Windows Phone 8, in others its the other way around. Many analysts believe that Windows Phone 8 is actually in a much better position as opposed to BlackBerry, even with its new BB10 platform. Nokia is one of the biggest manufacturers of WP8 devices, its Lumia range has produced decent hits. On the other hand there’s HTC which is yet to see immense success with any one of its WP8 device. Rumor has it that HTC is likely to move away altogether from Microsoft’s mobile platform.

Before Microsoft and Nokia signed a billion dollar deal making Windows Phone the default OS on Nokia smartphones, HTC was the biggest vendor of Windows Phone device. Now it accounts for roughly 5 percent of all WP8 devices, as opposed to Nokia which has the lion’s share of 80 percent, followed closely by Samsung in second place. Digitimes cites sources based in Taiwan who claim that HTC might move away from WP8 and focus even more than it is already doing on development of Android devices. One reason cited for this change is HTC’s desire to gain more share in the global smartphone market, and given Android’s popularity, the move seems perfectly logical. Does his mean HTC will stop making WP devices altogether? Presumably not, the company hasn’t dropped any such hint as yet.

HTC One Max Non-Final Press Render A Fake, Says HTC

HTC One Max Non Final Press Render A Fake, Says HTCWhenever a particular device is about to be released to the market, you can be sure that the rumor vultures would be circling it, waiting to pounce on whatever “bone” that is thrown out, and of course, it remains to the reader to discern whether that particular rumor is true or not, and sometimes, common sense would come in to prevail, too. The “non-final” press image of what is alleged to be the HTC One Max that we saw yesterday? It might seem to be the real deal, but HTC has stepped forward to say that it is but a fake.

According to leading HTC’s senior global online communications manager Jeff Gordon who commented over at Engadget, “Fake. @evleaks is way off his game”. Gordon did clarify over his Twitter account @urbanstrata, touting, “Me: Try to make a helpful comment on @engadget about the company I work for. Engadget commenter: ‘Get out of here, troll’.” Guess that’s that for the moment, as the HTC One Max, also known as the HTC T6 if model names and numbers are your cup of tea, would probably look different from what we have seen so far, and as to whether that is a good or bad thing, I leave it entirely to you.
