HTC denies sale rumor amid poor Q3 outlook

HTC denies sale rumor amid poor Q3 outlook

Poor HTC just can’t get a break. Earlier this week, EE Times’ famed Chinese analyst Alice Sun posted a rather worrying rumor on Sina Weibo: apparently HTC chairwoman Cher Wang is giving up making mobile phones, and that she’s already put her company on the market with a price.

While Sun is usually known for reliable insights, this particular piece of gossip was quickly shot down by HTC, including China head Ray Yam who allegedly responded to a text message inquiry from Mobile China Alliance’s secretary. At yesterday’s corporate family day event, Wang also assured her colleagues that HTC will not be sold, according to Taiwanese publication UDN.

The following statement we received from HTC more or less echoes Wang’s speech at the event:

“Based on recent inquiries related to rumors that HTC is looking to sell the company, we want to confirm that those rumors are untrue. HTC is committed to innovation and will continue to deliver new designs and products to consumers worldwide. We appreciate the support and affirmation of our customers and have new initiatives underway to further build our global presence and a full resurgence of the HTC brand.”

Despite having deleted the original weibo post “for some peace and quiet,” Sun implied in a follow-up post that time will tell the truth. Well, regardless of the outcome, good thing HTC has Tony Stark on its side.

HTC One Max appears in early testing

HTC One Max Picture Surfaces Online

What was initially only known as the T6 has now come to be widely called the HTC One Max. Said to be the Taiwanese manufacturer’s first phablet, not much is known about this device right now. Its design language is said to be similar to that of the HTC One, the use of metal and unibody construction process has been rumored as well. The defining feature of HTC One Max is said to be its massive 5.9 inch display, which can be see in all of its purported glory in a picture of the device that has surfaced online.

The HTC One Max looks a lot like its younger sibling, save for the display up front. It is believed that the device will have a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor and a 3,200 mAh battery. The folks who posted this photo in the first price, ePrice, believe that HTC will be unveiling it the IFA conference in Berlin, where Samsung is said to be unveiling its new phablet, the Galaxy Note 3. The particular HTC One Max variant you see in the picture apparently has dual SIM support, HTC already sells the dual SIM One exclusively in China.

HTC One Max reportedly surfaces in photos with 5.9-inch display

HTC One Max reportedly surfaces in photos with 5.9-inch display

Word of the HTC One Max first surfaced in a leaked document from UK carrier O2, but now the phone seems to be making an appearance in the flesh. Taiwanese site ePrice has gotten its collective mitts on two photos of what’s claimed to be the retooled flagship, which boasts a 5.9-inch 1080p display. Differences in the hardware don’t exactly jump out at first blush, but the relative distance between the lower speaker grill and its buttons hint at a larger screen. While the One Mini’s grate doesn’t extend as far as the full-sized smartphone’s, the grill on this jumbo device stretches past that of both handsets.Though this model also sports traditional China-specific tweaks such as dual SIM slots, the most notable changes include an upgrade to a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor and a 3,200mAh battery. ePrice says an official One Max appearance is rumored for next month at IFA, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for invitations to special unveiling events.

HTC Fetch navigation tag keeps your valuables tracked on a digital map

There’s a device out there in the wild called the HTC Fetch. If that seems strange to you, you’ll be surprised at how ravenous modern day early adopters can […]

If you expected the Verizon release of the HTC One to be done without any special fanfare, it’s time to amp up the volume. HTC One mini passes through the FCC with AT&T-capable LTE

HTC One Mini reaches the FCC with AT&Tcapable LTE

There have been rumors of the HTC One mini coming to AT&T, including a reported press shot from Android Police, but we’ve seen little in the way of hard evidence. Thankfully, the FCC just gave us Exhibit A: the One Mini has once again shown up at the US agency, this time with support for AT&T-friendly HSPA+ and LTE frequencies. Although there are few surprises in store, the new variant doesn’t offer HSPA+ for T-Mobile; HTC isn’t likely to repeat the multi-carrier strategy that brought the full-size One to the US. That may disappoint customers on other networks, although if it’s any comfort, the FCC appearance hints that the device could reach Americans relatively soon.
