Huawei Will Continue Making Windows Phone Devices

Huawei Will Continue Making Windows Phone DevicesIt was just last week that Microsoft announced their plans to acquire Nokia’s cellphone business, and if the deal concludes successfully, Microsoft would have access to their own smartphone manufacturer and could in theory do away with the rest of their OEMs, such as HTC, Samsung, and Huawei. While Microsoft has not announced anything like that, it is understandable that OEMs are a little concerned about their future, just like they were when Microsoft announced that they would be making their own Surface tablets, and when Google acquired Motorola.

While it remains to be seen what will happen on the Windows Phone front, Huawei has stated that they will continue to make Windows Phone devices, with Huawei executive Richard Ren telling reporters, “We will continue to develop devices running Windows Phone, and launch more products. We remain one of Microsoft’s strategic partners.” Over in the US Huawei might not be as big a name compared to the likes of Apple or Samsung, but they do hold considerable weight over in populous China which is a market we expect affordable Windows Phone products to take off which would benefit both Huawei and Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform.

    Huawei Ascend G700 hands-on

    Huawei Ascend G700 handson

The G in Huawei’s letter-based lineup is meant to be midrange at best, so it’s no surprise that the Ascend G700 hasn’t been the subject of as much eager anticipation as, say, a certain new Nexus. Still, the device, which was announced this week and expected to arrive in China next month, was deemed worthy enough to be seen by thousands of onlookers in the company’s booth at IFA 2013. The Android 4.2 smartphone features Huawei’s Emotion UI, dual-SIM support, a 720p IPS display, 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek Cortex-A7 SoC, 2GB RAM, 8MP rear camera and 1.3MP front-facing shooter. In our brief time with the device, we liked the overall feel of the 5-inch phone; its arched smooth plastic back, which maxes out at 9mm thick, was adequately comfortable to hold. It’s a midrange phone through and through, which means you’re going to get a lot of decent performance with — you guessed it — decent specs. It’s a sleek device, so hopefully the price is right (though phones in this series rarely if ever go above ¥2,000 or about $320 unsubsidized). Check out some more images of Huawei’s latest below.

Huawei Not Interested In Acquiring A Phone Maker

Huawei Not Interested In Acquiring A Phone Maker

Microsoft announced earlier this week that it has acquired Nokia’s phone business. This lead many analysts to speculate about the future of struggling phone manufacturers such as BlackBerry and HTC. BlackBerry has already formed a special committee to look into a possible sale of the company, though it is believed that there hasn’t been any interest in a whole acquisition of the company as yet. It was rumored earlier today that BlackBerry wants to close its sale by November. As far as HTC is concerned, the company recently rubbished rumors that it was being put up for sale. Even if both companies become available for sale, China’s Huawei won’t be going for them, this according to Huawei’s senior vice president and board member Chen Lifang.

Back in June, Huawei’s Richard Yu was quoted as saying that they were considering acquiring Nokia. Huawei downplayed the report the next day, saying that it wasn’t interested. It appears that the Chinese manufacturer doesn’t want to take on a struggling company. Chen Lifang told reporters in London that “we want to rely on ourselves,” and that they haven’t considered an acquisition. Huawei isn’t exactly known for its smartphones in the West, but it one of the major players in the highly lucrative and massive Chinese market.

    Huawei Honor 3 launches as a 4.7-inch water-friendly smartphone

Huawei has unveiled the latest Honor branded smartphone. This one has arrived as the Honor 3 and it looks like the initial roll-out will be for those in China. The handset is a mid-level device with specs to include a 4.7-inch display at 1280 x 720 and Huawei’s K3V2 processor. Specifically, this one clocks in […]

    Huawei unveils outdoor-ready Honor 3 smartphone, MediaQM310 set-top box

Huawei unveils outdoorready Honor 3 smartphone, MediaQM310 settop box

Huawei’s first two Honor smartphones were straightforward mid-range devices; with today’s unveiling of the Honor 3, the company is going the semi-rugged route. The third-generation model is IP57-rated for resistance to dust and water, and its high-sensitivity touchscreen will recognize wet hands. There’s also an HTC One-like infrared blaster to control TVs and home appliances. The Honor 3 is otherwise a modest upgrade, however — it carries a slightly larger 4.7-inch 720p in-cell touch LCD, a mildly faster 1.5GHz K3V2 quad-core chip, a higher-resolution 13-megapixel rear camera, a 1-megapixel front camera and Android 4.2. The 2GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage haven’t changed since last year, although they’re acceptable when the Honor 3 is already on sale for just ¥1,888 ($309) in China.

The smartphone will soon have company. Huawei is teasing a new TV set-top box, the MediaQM310, that should offer both cloud services and China Network Television’s online video. The media hub should be uncommonly powerful for its diminutive size with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 chip, Bluetooth and dual-band WiFi. There’s no mention of a price just yet, although that should come when Huawei ships the MediaQM310 to China sometime in September. Check out a photo of the device after the break.

Huawei Honor 3 Is Now Official

Huawei Honor 3 Is Now OfficialJust a few days ago, we did talk about the Huawei Honor 3 which is set to be announced near the end of this month, and guess what? The Huawei Honor 3 is now official, where it will come with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in tow. This will be the third smartphone from Huawei which will carry the “Honor” name, with the first being announced in 2011 under the Honor U8860 banner, while at the end of last year, we had the Huawei Honor 2 roll out. Just what will the Huawei Honor 3 bring to the table then?

The Huawei Honor 3 happens to be IP57 certified, which means that this is a waterproof device, and you can place an order for it in China from today onwards via Huawei’s very own online shop. After conversion, the Huawei Honor 3 will retail for approximately $308 as an unlocked device, and so far the only color of choice available remains at just one – that is, white. Hardware specifications include a 4.7” display at 1,280 x 720 resolution, HSPA+ (up to 21Mbps) and Wi-Fi b/g/n connectivity, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, a 13-megapixel shooter at the back with a LED flash, a quad-core 1.5GHz Huawei K3V2E processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes. No idea on whether the Honor 3 will make it outside of China, but the chances do look good.

Huawei Honor 3 Set For August 28th Announcement

Huawei Honor 3 Set For August 28th AnnouncementDoes anyone remember anything about the Huawei Honor? We reviewed it at the end of 2011, and somehow or rather, did not manage to catch a glimpse of the Huawei Honor 2, and there has been glimpses of the Huawei Honor 3 for quite some time already, without much being revealed. It does seem as though the general public in China tend to get more information about the XiaoMi Mi3 and the Meizu MX3, making the Huawei Honor 3 somewhat a “forgotten child” of sorts. Well, here is the Huawei Honor 3’s chance to get back into the spotlight, where sources from China claimed that the Huawei Honor 3 will be announced this coming August 28th in Beijing, China. Apart from that, Huawei will also announce the Huawei TV Box alongside the Huawei Honor 3.

There are no new updates on the hardware specifications, but previously leaked rumors point to a 4.7-inch HD 720p display, a quad-core 1.5GHz K3V2E processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, a 13-megapixel camera at the back with LED, a 1-megapixel front-facing camera in addition to a 2,230mAH battery. Do expect the Huawei Honor 3 to be powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with their very own Emotion UI 1.6 running on top of it.
