Huawei Has Trio Of New Processors In The Pipeline

Huawei Has Trio Of New Processors In The PipelineHuawei has rolled out its fair share of mobile devices in the past, but this time around the company CEO, a certain Richard Yu, did mention that they have a trio of new processors that ought to debut in due time. Out of the three, there will be a single quad-core processor, in addition to a pair of octa-core processors. The octa-core chip itself will be a 64-bit processor, where it will rely on the big.LITTLE architecture, coming with just a single set of 4 cores that are active at any one time. This particular chipset will boast of a Cortex A-57 and a Cortex A-53, where the latter will see action when it comes to light housekeeping, while the former will perform all the heavy lifting.

    Huawei B199 Announced

Huawei B199 AnnouncedWhat makes the recently announced Huawei B199 smartphone so special from the rest of the other smartphones that are in the market? For starters, the Huawei B199 comes across as a dual SIM capable Android-powered smartphone, where it will continue from where the Huawei A199 left off (which incidentally made its debut in April last year). Of course, the Huawei B199 also walks in the legacy of its predecessor that came with dual SIM capability alongside CDMA/GSM dual stand-by. There must be a clincher for the Huawei B199, which is what we will take a closer look at right after the jump.

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 And Ascend P6S Launch Expected This Month

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 And Ascend P6S Launch Expected This Month

Huawei is one Chinese smartphone manufacturer that has some exposure in the West. Most local vendors in the People’s Republic aren’t known outside the country, despite the fact that they make some of China’s best selling mobile phones. Huawei actually does a lot more than making smartphones, but it has evidently been focusing quite a lot on that side of the business in the past few years. The company’s latest creations, the Ascend Mate 2 and Ascend P6S are expected to be released in China later this month.

The Ascend Mate 2 was launched with much pomp and substance at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2014 last week in Las Vegas. This smartphone touts impressive specifications and a handful of amazing features. Rumors coming in from China suggest that it will cost 2988 RMB in the country, that’s roughly $493. Huawei Ascend P6S wasn’t showcased at CES 2014, however it does have the same 1.6GHz Hsilicon quadcore processor as the Mate 2. It is expected to cost 2288 RMB or $378. Huawei is expected to release both smartphones before the Chinese New Year, which kicks off on January 31st. The company has said that it has plans to bring its latest smartphone to the U.S., but that might take a few months. So if you’re interested in its latest smartphones, you will have to import them from China.

Huawei Debuts Tron Android-Powered Gaming Console

Huawei Debuts Tron Android Powered Gaming ConsoleAndroid-based consoles are not such a bad idea. With Android being open sourced and with plenty of apps available, it would seem as though manufacturers would have not only the platform that they can tweak to their liking, but also a plethora of games that gamers can choose from. Kickstarter-backed OUYA is probably one of the more successful Android consoles to date, but oddly enough things have quietened down and we’re not sure if this means the trend is over, at least for now. Well whatever the case, Huawei is hoping to shake things up again by launching their own Android console called the Tron, and will offer it for $120 which is about half the price of Mad Catz’s M.O.J.O Android console that was announced at CES 2014.

So what sort of specs are we looking at? Well Huawei’s efforts will come with an NVIDIA Tegra 4 chipset under the hood, which already outdoes the OUYA which is powered by a Tegra 3 chipset. It will also pack 2GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of onboard storage, a USB 3.0 port, WiFi, Bluetooth, and will run on Android 4.2.3 Jelly Bean. The console itself is tiny and if you have ever seen one of those portable speakers before, it’s roughly around that size, just in case the size of the controller in the photo above did not provide you with the perspective. No word on when Huawei plans to release the Tron console, but apparently it’s primary market would be China, so for those of us living stateside, we might never get a chance to see it again post-CES 2014.

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 Hands-On Review

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 Hands On ReviewHuawei came out swinging at CES 2014 and after a brief presentation of the state of the company’s business, by Colin Gilles (EVP, Huawei), Huawei’s Richard Yu (CEO, Consumer Business Group) introduced the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 to the world with a lively, interesting and humorous presentation. It was nice, but make no mistake about it: Huawei is out to compete with the best, and it was clear that the Mate 2 smartphone has been designed to compete with large phones like the Galaxy Note 3, and that Huawei also threw a few punches to Apple, especially when it comes to the tiny battery capacity of the iPhone 5S.

I feel like the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 has not been designed as an “inspirational” device, and it is not trying to make you happy, be your friend, or try improving aspects of your life that you have no need for. This is a no-nonsense phone which brings a powerful Snapdragon 800 chip and a monster 4050mAh battery which is further optimized with a host of software optimizations. (more…)

Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G Launched At CES 2014

It was rumored that Chinese manufacturer Huawei might unveil a new smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014, and the company has come through. Today it launched the Ascend Mate2 4G, which touts a 6.1-inch IPS display, 4G LTE compatibility, a big 4,050mAh battery, which actually happens to be the largest in the industry, and a 5 megapixel front facing camera. The company claims Ascend Mate2 4G is ideal for watching six downloaded movies or listening up to 100 hours of music on a single charge. Under the hood, there’s a Qualcomm MSM8928 A9 1.6GHz quadcore processor.

Huawei Ascend W3 Expected To Be Unveiled At CES

Huawei Ascend W3 Expected To Be Unveiled At CES

There are a handful of OEMs out there that currently manufacture Windows Phone powered smartphones. Nokia takes the greater share, trailed by Samsung and HTC. It was feared that OEMs won’t be too happy with Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia’s hardware business, but they appear to be sticking with the platform for now. Huawei released a WP device, the Ascend W2, in mid-2013 and now its expected to release a new one in the very near future. If rumors are to be believed, we might get to see one at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2014.

The Huawei Ascend W3 is believed to be the Ascend W2′s successor, which was a mid-range Windows Phone device. Ascend W3 is expected to stick to these roots and offer a 720×1,280 pixel resolution display in an aluminium body that may look similar to the Ascend P6. Additional hardware specifications haven’t been rumored, so we’ll just have to wait and see what it touts under the hood come CES 2014, that is if Huawei ends up unveiling it. The smartphone will reportedly come with the latest GDR3 update of Windows Phone 8 pre-installed. Information about pricing and availability is scarce right now, but lucky for us, CES 2014 isn’t that far off.
