ASUS PadFone Infinity with Snapdragon 800 could simply be ‘The new PadFone Infinity’

ASUS' Snapdragon 800 refresh of the PadFone Infinity could simply be 'The new PadFone Infinity'

Following the original ASUS PadFone Infinity (A80) with Snapdragon 600 SoC, rumors of a new “PadFone Infinity A86” (or “PadFone T004”) go as far back as July 20th, with benchmark evidence showing a more powerful Snapdragon 800 enabling this mysterious device. While details are still light, several eagle-eyed PadFone fans have started noticing a new name on ASUS’ tech support page: “The new PadFone Infinity.” Assuming this is more of an official name and less of a placeholder, it looks like we’ll be seeing an identical-looking device sporting Qualcomm’s latest piece of silicon; and perhaps a launch is imminent — maybe at IFA next week? But ASUS, it really wouldn’t hurt if you guys can throw in a microSD slot plus a dedicated keyboard dock as well this time. Remember the original PadFone? Good times.

Toyota: 5m US hybrid sales goal by 2016 is “friendly challenge”

Toyota may have sold 5m hybrids worldwide since the launch of the original Prius in 1997, but the company’s next goal is a lot more localized: 5m hybrid sales in the US by 2016. Speaking at the company’s Hybrid World Tour, senior vice president of automotive operations Bob Carter threw down the gauntlet to not […]

Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid Is An Impressive Ride

Mercedes Benz S500 Plug in Hybrid Is An Impressive RideNormally, anyone with plenty of money to spare would more often than not have a beautiful mansion, live the high life, have a beautiful wife, basically, the whole picture perfect scenario. Of course, it would also be customary to have a nice luxury car parked in your garage alongside a sports car, and most of the time, you would not worry too much about the going price of gas considering that is but a small matter to your pockets. Still, the eco-minded tycoons out there might want to consider driving away with a Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-in Hybrid the next time around.

A hybrid S500 might not sound as though it has the ability to pump out that crazy kind of performance the gas-powered version of luxury ride delivers, but don’t be fooled. It is still capable of achieving a 0-to-62 mile-per-hour time of 5.5 seconds, running for 30 kilometers (nearly 19 miles) on electric power alone, and has a fuel economy rating of three liters per 100 kilometers on the European cycle (that would equal to 78.41 mpg US on an approximate basis). Amazing, don’t you think so? Now you can get around in style, comfort and safety without causing any more additional stress on our environment.

Honda teases upcoming NSX with Concept-GT hybrid race car

Honda teases upcoming NSX with ConceptGT hybrid race car

Honda’s got a lot riding on the upcoming 2015 NSX hybrid (which will be sold in the US as an Acura). When it launched in 1990, the iconic first generation NSX took the sports car market by storm with an impressive (and affordable) combination of performance, comfort, design and build quality. Production ended in 2005 with the company shifting its focus towards hybrids and other green vehicles. As such, Honda enthusiasts have eagerly been awaiting the NSX replacement. While the new flagship is still being developed, the company just announced the NSX Concept-GT, a hybrid race car which is designed to compete in the Japanese SUPER GT series (GT500 class). Unlike the street version, which features a mid-mounted V6 and three electric motors, the Concept-GT boasts a 2.0L turbocharged direct-injection I4 paired with a “racing hybrid system“. When it launches next year, the technology-packed NSX will compete with vehicles like BMW’s i8 plug-in hybrid and Lexus’ LF-CC. %Gallery-slideshow72907%

Owners of the Ford C-Max hybrid will be receiving a “special” payment from Ford, something it calls a goodwill payment following criticism that its hybrid vehicle didn’t live up to mileage claims. Audi teases 700HP hybrid Quattro Sport e-Tron Concept, A8 Matrix LED lighting

DNP Audi unveils Quattro Sport Etron 700HP hybrid concept sketches, new A8 headlight

We’re still a few weeks out from this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, but that hasn’t stopped Audi from showing off concept sketches of its hybrid supercar, the Quattro Sport E-Tron. According to Autoblog, the car will debut at the show sporting a twin-turbo V8 is similar to what’s found in the company’s RS6, but it has an electric motor bolted on to help it hit 700HP and a 200MPH-plus top speed. Being that it’s a hybrid, you can operate solely on battery power, but for only 21.7 miles at a time — so, if you’re looking for something with a little more range, we have a few practical suggestions.

Now for news on a model we might be able to actually afford, the A8. Prior to the 2015 model’s unveiling, Audi is teasing a few features ahead of time. The A8’s exterior lighting got a massive upgrade with the Matrix LED headlamp system, which can auto-dim or shut the highbeams down entirely thanks to a camera that senses other vehicles. Audi didn’t neglect the tail lights, either. The turn signals on the luxury sedan now sports 24 LEDs that illuminate sequentially in the direction of the turn, from the inside out. For more info, you’ll have to dive into the press release below or check out the model’s coming out party on August 21st, right here.

BMW i8 to use smartphone-style hardened glass for noise and weight reductions

BMW i8 to use smartphonestyle hardened glass for noise and weight reduction

We’re used to seeing toughened glass on our phones and tablets, where it protects screens from chips and cracks. BMW, however, plans to use the substance on a much grander scale — the automaker just revealed that its upcoming i8 hybrid will be the first mass-produced car to use hardened glass. The currently unnamed material will reduce noise and weight in windows behind the windshield. As BMW doesn’t have to use thick glass to maintain strength, it can produce acoustically damped windows that weigh half as much as they would otherwise. We’ll have to wait until the i8’s arrival in 2014 to see how well this component choice works on the road, but it could lead to a future of lighter cars that still offer quiet interiors.
