Hyundai has been showing off a few show cars recently. The most recent one I mentioned was called Yellowcake and is designed to be a night time racecar. Hyundai has now announced that it will be building a zombie survival machine in conjunction with the incredibly popular show The Walking Dead. The vehicle was designed […]
Hyundai has unveiled another show car that will be on display at SEMA in Las Vegas this November. The SEMA show runs November 5 or November 8 and this new show car is based on the Veloster Turbo. The car was dubbed “Yellowcake” and was created in cooperation with car customizer EGR. The EGR Night […]
We did talk about the Hyundai T7 tablet in the past, where it was first announced earlier this year. Well, it seems that the Hyundai T7 is not a tablet that just shrinks into the background, as we have reliable word from the ground that it will finally be on the receiving end of the more modern Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system beta update. First of all, here is a quick refresher course – the Hyundai T7 would be a 7” tablet that sports a 1,280 x 800 resolution display as well as a quad-core Samsung Exynos 4412 processor.
Apart from that, its price point would be its main point, costing somewhere in the region of $140, now how about that? Of course, the original batch shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which means having Android 4.2 Jelly Bean beta update roll out for it is an extremely sweet deal, don’t you think so? Of course, it goes without saying that one might choose to proceed with extreme caution, since this is but a beta version as at press time.

In what’s perhaps one of the largest recalls ever by both Hyundai and Kia, over 1.9 million vehicles are being recalled due to electrical and airbag issues. The 1.9 million vehicles are spread out between three different recall campaigns. Hyundai issued a similar recall back in 2009 over electrical problems with some of its vehicles.
First off, Hyundai said it is recalling 1.06 million vehicles for electrical problems that could result in any number of electrical failures such as “intermittent operation” of the push-button start feature, removing the vehicle’s shifter from the park position, illumination of the “ESC” (Electronic Stability Control) indicator lamp, interference with operation of the cruise control feature, and possible issues with the brake lights.
Kia is recalling 623,000 vehicles to address the same problem as Hyundai’s recall. Hyundai and Kia actually share a technical center in Michigan and are controlled by the same Korean company, but the auto makers mostly operate independently from one another. The list of cars affects include the 2007-09 Accent, 2007-10 Elantra, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-11 Santa Fe, 2011 Sonata, 2007-09 Tucson and 2008-09 Veracruz.
As for Kia vehicles, the 2007-10 Rondo, 2007 Sedona, 2011 Optima, 2007-11 Sorento, 2010-11 Soul, and the 2007-10 Sportage are being recalled. Kia will notify owners of these vehicles in May, and the company says that no injuries or accidents due to the cars’ issues have been reported. Furthermore, Hyundai is recalling around 190,000 2011-13 Elantras for possible airbag problems. None of the Kia vehicles that we test drove back in February are affected, including the 2014 Sorento and Forte.

The New York Auto Show is currently going on in New York City until this Sunday, but Hyundai decided to show off its newest in personal mobility vehicles at the Seoul Motor Show last week. Hyundai’s E4U is a concept vehicle which was designed by the company’s Advanced Design Department and can actually be driven in any direction.
The E4U doesn’t use tires like a traditional vehicle would. Instead, it uses a rotating semispherical part that spins horizontally. The semisphere is in a titled position to help generate drive, while two stabilizing wheels located at the rear of the vehicle keep it moving straight. Two pedals are located inside of the driver’s cockpit which allow the E4U to tilt in a certain way where it can be moved forward or backwards, depending on the pedal that has been pushed. The driver of the vehicle admits it does take some getting used to. (more…)

Hyundai shows off redesigned 2014 Equus sedan at New York International Auto Show
Posted in: Today's ChiliHyundai has displayed its 2014 Equus luxury sedan at the 2013 New York International Auto Show, boasting about its new “premium-sport” design and variety of luxury features. In addition to the redesign, which is as much about modern visual updates as it is about improved aerodynamics, the vehicle has some new standard features and multiple driving modes. We have a gallery of the car after the jump.
Starting with the 2014 Equus’s exterior, drivers will find a 19-inch polished silver turbine-blade wheel design, as well as new side mirrors, grille design, front bumper fascia, and tail light graphics. LED fog lamps are now standard for the vehicle, and “Night Shadow Brown” has been added as a new exterior color option.
The interior has seen similar updates and improvements, with Hyundai completely redesigning the center stack and instrument panel, as well as the shift lever and the center console. The control layout on the steering wheel has been revised, and the rear seat’s console controls have been redesigned. There’s new wood trim options, as well as a new ivory leather interior design.
Features include climate control with three cabin temperature zones, a 7-inch cluster display in the Signature model, which increases to 12.3-inches in the Ultimate. The center stack has a 9.2-inch display, and in the back there are dual 9.2-inch displays as part of the entertainment system. The vehicle uses a smart key of both the card and fob varieties. There’s Standard Assurance Connected Care & Blue Link.
Under the hood, there’s a 5-liter Tau DOHC V8 engine with 429 horsepower at 6400 rpm, offering a tuned variable induction system and D-CVVT (Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing). The 2014 Equus gets 15mpg city/23mpg highway, combing for a decent 18mpg average.

The Seoul Motor Show is coming up next week, and there will obviously be a handful of new cars to be unveiled on the show floor during the week, one of which will be Hyundai‘s HND-9 coupe concept. It’s said that the design of the concept will be meant as inspiration for Hyundai’s upcoming vehicles — possibly a next-generation Genesis.
Hyundai says that this design of the HND-9 is described as a “modern reinterpretation of the classic premium sports coupe,” and we’d have to agree with them. The concept has the classic Lambo-style doors, as well as the fastback-esque rear design, with the dual exhaust on the back, along with the mean-looking taillights.
The concept that will be making an appearance at the Seoul Motor Show will sport a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 GDI engine that spits out 365 BHP, and it’ll be accompanied by an eight-speed automatic transmission. Of course, this may not be the exact setup that will come to production vehicles in the future, but it could be template.
We’ve already seen a couple of Hyundai’s concepts over the last few months. The company showed off their HCD-14 sedan concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit back in January, as well as their Veloster C3 hatchback concept back in November, both of which look really sleek.

Hyundai is set to debut its 2014 Equus (also known as the Centennial) at the upcoming New York Auto Show. In preparation, the manufacturer has released two videos giving us a pretty solid glimpse of the car, the first one showing off its driving dynamics, and the second offering a look at its concept and design. We have both the videos after the jump.
The driving dynamics video is interesting enough, mostly providing a complete look at the Equus’s body, but also offering a few glimpses at its interior, where we see a concept animation of its instrument panel modes. There are close ups of the lights, windows, and other such aspects of the vehicle, all of it set to gentle piano music with the occasional flower petal fluttering by.
The second video featured below is its polar opposite, setting the scene with dramatic music that accompanies us throughout the car’s interior, where we’re given point-by-point looks at its different features, both external and internal (but mostly internal). Check out the video, then get a run down of its specifications below.
The Equus will be available in White Frost AT, Sterling Silver AU, Phantom Black AF, Hyper Metallic NY, Blue Baltico PUE, and Cona Black VB2. The vehicle features fully adaptive LED headlights, wrap-around LED rear lights, a card-type start key, a shift by wire transmission system, and there’s a 9.2-inch monitor in the center console. Perhaps its most alluring feature, however, is the full thin-film transistor LCD cluster, which changes styles based on the driving mode.
We’ll have more details when the 2014 Equus makes it debut later this month.
