Intel Set To Open Own Retail Stores Soon

Apple has experienced a pretty significant degree of success with their Apple Stores, and it does seem as though the good people over at Intel, too, want a piece of the physical retail store pie. In the video above, you will see that Intel has every intention to reach out to the masses through a similar modus operandi – by opening up their very own retail stores, too. Intel exec John Wallace did share some details concerning the Intel Experience Store plan, with the first location set to open this November 23rd (that is just less than a fortnight away!) in New York City’s NoLita area.

Unfortunately, not much else is known about this particular range of Intel stores, but we are pretty sure that you won’t be able to find any iOS devices on sale in there. Do expect to see an Ultrabooks galore area over there, and we sure as heck hope that there will be additional store locations revealed to us in the days and weeks ahead. Will it be able to take off with a similar level of success as with Apple’s physical retail stores? Only time will be able to answer that particular question. We do wonder just which computer vendors would want to sell their wares there, too.

Intel Internet TV Project Reportedly Attracts Interest From Liberty Global

Intel Internet TV Project Reportedly Attracts Interest From Liberty Global

In February earlier this year, Intel confirmed that it has set up a new division called Intel Media which is working on its internet TV project. It was back in December 2012 when the first rumors about Intel playing with the idea of becoming an internet TV provider started making the rounds. Though recent rumors suggest that Intel is now willing to give up the project, Verizon has reportedly been in talks with the chip maker to takeover Intel Media. If the latest from Bloomberg is to be believed, Big Red may face some competition from European cable operator Liberty Global.

Citing three people “with knowledge of the situation,” the report claims that talks between Intel and Liberty Global are at an early stage right now and there is a possibility that they might fall through. While spokespersons for both Intel and Liberty Global have declined to comment on the report, it is said that the latter plans on using Intel’s internet TV system outside the U.S. Verizon was said to be in advanced negotiations with Intel, but the report doesn’t say if Verizon is still interested in the division or if it has decided not to pursue Intel Media any further. The people cited in the report have not disclosed the price being discussed for Intel’s internet TV project.

Apple Given “World’s Most Valuable Brand” Title For The 3rd Year In A Row

Apple Given Worlds Most Valuable Brand Title For The 3rd Year In A RowWhile Apple’s iOS operating system might not necessarily have the largest market share, and their Mac computers aren’t exactly giving Windows-based computers a run for their money, it would seem that in spite of all of that, the Cupertino company has managed to nab the “World’s Most Valuable Brand” title for the third year in a row! According to Forbes’ ranking, Apple is followed by Microsoft, Coca-Cola, IBM, and Google. Other tech companies not pictured in the list above include Intel and Samsung, all of whom are in the top 10 companies, with non-tech companies such as McDonald’s, General Electric, and fashion label Louis Vuitton helping to round off that list.

One of the reasons Apple has managed to beat out their rival, Samsung, is partly due to advertising spend-to-brand ratio, with Apple spending $10 million for every $1 million in brand value, versus Samsung who spent a whopping $149 million for every $1 million in brand value. According to Forbes, the way the calculate the rankings is based on a formula which includes the company’s three-year revenues, the stock price, and average price-to-earnings ratio over the same period of time. As it stands, Apple’s brand value is pegged at $104.3 billion, versus Microsoft who is almost half at $56.7 billion. Will Apple be able to hold onto that position? We guess we will have to wait and see.

Tizen Smart TV On The Cards, Won’t Come Before The Phone

Tizen Smart TV On The Cards, Wont Come Before The Phone

It was back in 2011 that Samsung and Intel came together to work on Tizen, a new open source operating system. So far no device running said operating system has been released in the market, a smartphone was expected to be released earlier this year, but it hasn’t come out as yet. A few months back it was rumored that Tizen is almost dead, but Samsung brushed aside those rumors and said that work on the OS will continue. Samsung also plans on launching a Tizen smart TV. Head of Samsung Electronics’ visual display unit, Kim Hyun-seok, revealed at the Smart TV Global Summit 2013 in Seoul today that the company has seen “much progress” in the Tizen TV, but confirmed that the phone will be launched first.

Samsung has not confirmed anything about its Tizen smartphone plans as yet. a few weeks back it was rumored that the company’s CEO had deliberately pushed back the launch so that they could enhance the experience of the new OS. Just last week it was rumored possibility of a Tizen smartphone releasing in 2013 looks bleak, the consensus in the rumor mill now is that the smartphone might come out early next year. Despite the delays, Tizen seems far from being dead. Intel’s vice president of software and services, Imad Sousou, also reiterated the chip maker’s commitment to Tizen by called it a “significant investment.”

Intel’s Internet TV Project Might Be Handed Over To Verizon

Intels Internet TV Project Might Be Handed Over To Verizon

It was back in December 2012 when we first heard that Intel had intentions to break into the market as an internet TV provider. Earlier this year, in February to be precise, the company confirmed that it had been working for over a year to set up Intel Media, a new division which was working on Intel’s TV project. ATD reports today that the chipmaker might be giving up its project soon. Apparently Intel and Verizon are talking, and the result of these talks would be the handover of Intel Media to Big Red. No confirmation has come in as yet from either company.

Citing “people familiar with the talks,” the report claims that both Intel and Verizon are in advanced negotiations. However, it is not known for sure right now if Intel Media would totally be handed over to Verizon or if Intel intends to retain a piece of it, or have a say in the division’s operations. Intel’s internet TV project is headed by Erik Huggers, his job was to create a pay TV service that would use a set-top box built by Intel. Huggers hired over 300 people which included people from the outside as well, from companies like BBC, Google, Netflix, Apple and more. A number of Intel employees have already been testing the service in their homes, but the company has apparently not been so lucky in securing programming deals from networks, which it absolutely needs before a commercial launch.
