A 75-year old lady from Georgia (the country, not the state) has perpetrated an impressive feat of international sabotage in what seems to have been an accident of extremely bad luck. While foraging for copper wire near her home in the village of Ksani, the unnamed septuagenarian managed to come across a critical fiber optic cable, one responsible for serving internet connectivity to “90 percent of private and corporate internet users in Armenia” and some in her own country as well. Her swift strike at the heart of said bit-transferring pipeline resulted in all those folks being thrown offline for a solid 12 hours, while the Georgian Railway Telecom worked to find and correct the fault. In spite of her relatively benign motivations, the lady now faces three years in prison for the damage she caused. We’d say all’s well that ends well, but this doesn’t actually seem like a very happy ending at all.

Earlier this year, HTC allowed its previously Verizon-exclusive brand name out to prowl the globe with the Incredible S, and now it’s doing the same with the heretofore Sprint-only EVO moniker. The EVO 3D, says a tweet from HTC’s French mouthpiece, is coming to the land of baguettes, stylish mustaches and stripy pullovers, though a little bit of mystery remains as to when exactly its arrival shall be. Whatever the schedule (the EVO 3D’s set for a “summer” release in the US), the rest of Europe’s unlikely to be left out, meaning a 4.3-inch superphone with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1080p video recording in 2D and 720p in 3D, HTC’s newest Sense skin and Android’s freshest Gingerbread build, is headed out to the Old World. And that, fellow pilgrims, is a mighty awesome thing indeed.

The iPad 2 is already delayed in Australia and New Zealand

If you want to get your hands on an iPad 2 on the international launch day, you’d better go sleep outside an Apple Store. Thanks to the wonders of time difference, it is already tomorrow, March 24th in Australia and New Zealand, and the online Apple Store is already experiencing delays.

All 12 models went on sale at 1AM this morning (or tomorrow morning — I’m a little confused) and all 12 will ship in two to three weeks. That’s pretty much the same amount of time as you’ll have to wait in the U.S.

It seems that Apple just can’t make enough of these things, and is selling as many as it can force manufacturer Foxconn to pump out of its Chinese factories. I’m pretty sure that its selling faster than the original iPad did last year, but I still doubt that it has shifted one million units in the first weekend as some sold “analysts” have guessed — if it had, wouldn’t Apple be bragging about it already? Still, at this rate, we should probably expect the iPad 2 to hit the million mark in less than the 28 days it took the first version.

I will likely be heading over to Barcelona’s new Apple Store tomorrow afternoon, but I’m really in no rush. After all, my existing iPad still works fine, even if it now looks as fat and ugly as Ben Grimm. If any of you are going to be at the Barcelona store, come and say hi. I’ll be the handsome one on crutches.

For a long time Ford kept its best cars in Europe and Australia, leaving Americans to make do with the Tempo or teasing us with a Focus that wasn’t nearly as good as those elsewhere in the world. That’s all changed now, and we’re dutifully returning the favor. SYNC, which has been present on many an American Blue Oval since 2007, is now going international, Ford and Nuance managing to add an additional 16 languages to the voice recognition processing, bringing the total to 19. Emergency assistance has also been expanded to cover other languages as well, so you can now hollar for help, schreien for hilfe, or even schreeuwen om help.

European dual-core aficionados were promised their fix way back in January from LG, however the Korean company’s delivery schedule evidently slipped a tiny bit as we’re today bidding adieu to the month of February. Good news is that LG will definitely, totally, honestly be releasing its Optimus 2X in “key European markets” this March. It’ll ship with Froyo on board, however a Gingerbread update is expressly promised, which should allay fears of being left with a very powerful but outdated piece of hardware. Last time we looked, Amazon’s German branch had priced this handset, to be known as the Optimus Speed in Deutschland, at just under €500, which sounds about right for its eventual unlocked price.
