iOS 7.1.1 Update Brings Touch ID Improvements

iOS 7.1.1 Update Brings Touch ID Improvements

We reported last week that Apple was working on a new incremental software update for iOS. It would be the first such update after the company released iOS 7.1, the first major release since iOS 7.0 was pushed out to the public last last year. Just now Apple has released iOS 7.1.1 for compatible devices. It primarily brings bug fixes, as well as improvements for Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 5s.

Prior to this update a lot of iPhone 5s users had complained about Touch ID performance. They experienced gradual worsening of the sensor’s ability to recognize registered fingerprints. Today’s update brings improvements which means that users should no longer face those issues when trying to gain access to their device through Touch ID. It is not surprising at all that Apple has included improvements for this problem in iOS 7.1.1 since it was expected to do so.

The update also includes a bug fix which makes keyboard in iOS 7 more responsive. Apple overhauled the keyboard in iOS 7, giving it a much flatter user interface that is in line with major UI changes made to iOS. An issue that affected use of Bluetooth keyboard when VoiceOver was enabled has also been fixed.

iOS 7.1.1 release will be staged, meaning that it won’t go live across all regions at once. Once it does go live a notification will pop up on all supported devices. The update can be downloaded and installed on the device itself.

iPhone-5s-fingerprint-sensor Apple has released a new update to iOS 7 today, a minor point update with bug fixes and improvements. iOS 7.1.1 Release Expected Soon

iOS 7.1.1 Release Expected Soon

A few weeks back Apple released iOS 7.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The software update brought a number of new features for supported devices, including CarPlay, which brings the iOS experience to cars. It appears that the company has been working on yet another software update though it just might an incremental one. Apple is expected to release iOS 7.1.1 in the near future and it might primarily bring bug fixes.

This is hardly surprising since Apple often releases bug fixes updates after a major release. iOS 7.1 was the first major update that came nearly six months after iOS 7.0 was first launched to the public late last year. Visits from devices running iOS 7.1.1 are being increasingly tracked online. This behaviour has been an indicator of an impending incremental update in the past as well.

Those who have been waiting for a major software announcement from the company don’t have to sit tight for too long now. This summer Apple is due to unveil iOS 8. There have already been a lot of rumors about what we can expect from the next iOS platform update. Rumors suggest that the company may simplify the overall user experience, shake up iTunes and perhaps even integrate Shazam’s music discovery technology within iOS itself.

iOS 7 Bug Allows The Bypassing Of Activation Lock

For those who do not password protect their phones, perhaps you might want to reconsider that course because thanks to a recently discovered iOS 7 bug, it basically allows someone who has access to your phone to not only delete your iCloud account, but also disable Find My iPhone which will essentially render Activation Lock moot.

Now Apple has thought about security before and has made it pretty complicated in order to delete or to disable certain features. However what this bug does is that it allows users to bypass certain password requirements in order to delete either the iCloud account or to disable the Find My iPhone feature. (more…)

iOS 7.1 Bug Lets You Hide Native Apps In Plain Sight

A few weeks back Apple released iOS 7.1, the biggest update for iOS 7.0 ever since it was launched late last year. The update brought fixes for many bugs, apart from visual enhancements and new features. It seems that Apple wasn’t able to quash all bugs in this update. A new bug has been discovered in iOS 7.1 which lets anyone hide native apps on the Home screen in plain sight.

iOS 7 Adoption Rate Now Sits At 85%

iOS 7 Adoption Rate Now Sits At 85%If there is one advantage that iOS has over Android is that when an update is released, iOS users around the world will be able to update their phone/tablets at the same time, as opposed to having to wait for the OEM to push out the update, and in some instances users might have to wait for carrier approval as well.

Of course this is a different story if you own a Google Nexus device, but the rest of it rings true for the most part. That being said it is understandable why iOS adoption rates tend to be higher when it comes to newer versions and according to the latest numbers, it has been found that 85% of iOS devices checking into the iTunes App Store run on iOS 7.
