Siri Can Enable Airplane Mode In iOS 7 Even With Passcode Lock

Siri Can Enable Airplane Mode In iOS 7 Even With Passcode LockOne of the highlights of iOS 7, apart from its redesign, would be an increased in security namely through the Activation Lock feature which would require the user to enter a password if they wish to wipe the phone, ultimately deterring thieves from stealing the phone and reselling it. The feature joins Find My iPhone in adding to the list of security features of the iPhone, but unfortunately thanks to a loophole in Siri, Find My iPhone can actually be disabled through it.

It has been discovered that even if you were to put a passcode lock on your iPhone, by enabling Siri, you will be able to enable Airplane Mode which would ultimately disable Find My iPhone. This isn’t so much a bug but more of an oversight especially since Siri has now been given more functionality with the update. We expect Apple will want to swiftly address this issue if they hope that the new iOS 7 update will be a secure one. In any case there’s still the Activation Lock feature that thieves need to go through if they wish to completely wipe the device and resell it, but for now they are still able to disable Find My iPhone which would make it harder for them to be tracked down.

Facebook Tested Their New iOS 7 Look Right Under Everyone’s Noses

Facebook Tested Their New iOS 7 Look Right Under Everyones NosesWith iOS 7 finally making its way onto iOS devices, there have been a couple of apps that have since updated itself to keep in theme with the new iOS 7 look, and Facebook was one of them. Admittedly for some, the new design of the Facebook app could prove a little jarring, especially with the navigation having been changed, and access to the News Feed, Messages, and Notifications making its way to the bottom of the app instead of the top, but for some, such as myself, this was not a complete surprise as it turns out that my version of Facebook had always been like this, and little did I know it was in preparation for iOS 7. Apple Increases App Store Download Limit Via Cellular To 100MB

Apple Increases App Store Download Limit Via Cellular To 100MBHarder, faster, better, stronger, these tend to be adjectives used to describe different ways that we always seek to improve ourselves as well as the surrounding around us. After Apple’s rollout of the iOS 7 as well as iTunes 11.1, it seems that there is something else that Apple did. That so happens to be an increase in the limit for App Store downloads that were initiated via cellular networks, and the new figure to represent this would be 100MB per app restriction, making it double the previous cap of 50MB.

This increase in over-the-air downloads could not be introduced in a timelier manner, considering how it is just a couple of days before both the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c are launched to the general masses. The new iPhone 5s flagship device is tipped to continue pushing development of advanced apps in the right direction, thanks to the increased hardware performance underneath the hood. Of course, once again, do bear in mind that this cap increase will “reveal itself” so to speak, when you want to download more than 100MB of data via a cellular network, and it is always recommended to do so via a Wi-Fi network instead whenever possible, and on a full battery charge, too.

Issues With iOS 7 Download? You Are Not Alone

Issues With iOS 7 Download? You Are Not AloneYes, we humans might be alone in this universe after all, but when it comes to something as huge as a new mobile operating system version download or update, and from Apple at that, then it is widely expected for everything to run hunky dory. After all, you purchased an iPhone simply because you wanted it to “work”, right, without having to tinker with stuff or to be frustrated by it all. Well, sad to say things do not always go as planned, as the iOS 7 launch has stumbled right out of the gates.

I wonder whether Apple underestimated the number of people who decided to make the upgrade jump when they released the iOS 7 update earlier this morning at 10 a.m. Pacific time. Its activation servers were swamped by all the pressure of all the downloads, and other folks could not even start the installation process without being greeted by an error message. Apple has since issued a high-priority internal notice to its support staff, especially after a sizable number of folks could not their iPhones after the iOS 7 installation process was complete as the servers failed to respond. Hopefully Apple will be able to get their act sorted out before this Friday’s iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c rollout.

Conan Shows Us What It’s Like to Update the iPhone to iOS 7

Conan Shows Us What It's Like to Update the iPhone to iOS 7

So if you didn’t hear, iOS 7 came out earlier today. But of course you heard. For a while, it seemed like everybody with an iPhone was focused on one thing: updating their phone and staring at a progress bar that inched ever so slowly (if it didn’t give you an error, that is) towards iOS 7 Valhalla. It didn’t matter what the hell was going on around us, it didn’t matter if babies were crying or if lives were at stake or if the world was ending—we just wanted to get to iOS 7. Conan’s bit right here explains people’s obsession with iOS 7 perfectly (and hilariously).

iPhone Activation Servers Crumble Under The Weight Of iOS 7

    PANDA

Happy iOS 7 day! Except for me. And legions of other iPhone owners who, for various reasons, had to activate their iPhone in the iOS 7 install process. Our phones are stuck in iOS 7 activation limbo.

Since early this morning, the activation servers are either down or very slow to respond, essentially rendering the phones useless and stuck in the install process. The situation is so bad, Apple reportedly issued an internal high-priority alert, notifying employees of the server issues that are preventing iPhone activation.

Apple better get its servers in line by Friday. There will be millions of new iPhones wanting to be activated.

In a perfect world, upgrading to iOS 7 would not require activation. However, if the install process fails, the best option is to restore to factory settings, which requires reactivating the phone. Or, perhaps, an owner decided it was a good time to do a fresh install, whipping the phone completely and starting fresh.

Or perhaps someone somewhere made a bad choice and bought a new iPhone today and needed to activate it.

Whatever the case, as noted by Apple’s internal memo and approximately a gazillion tweets, Apple’s iPhone activation servers are currently unresponsive for a lot of iPhone owners.
