iOS is out
Apple released iOS 7 today and we’re already seeing a lot of apps being updated. Most of them have been redesigned to complement the new “flat” user interface that iOS 7 touts. Facebook today announced a redesigned version of its iOS app. Facebook’s product manager for iOS, Michael Sharon, says that the app has been completely redesigned to fit nicely within Apple’s new iOS update.
The main navigation bar has now been moved to the bottom, the toolbar that slid out from the left has been removed. Tabs for Friend Requests, Messages, Notifications and News Feed are now located in the new navigation bar at the bottom. There’s also a new “bonus” tab called More, which lets users open other Facebook features such as Photos or Events without losing their place in the other tabs. To move from one tab to another, users can simply swipe across the navigation bar. The updated app will be available to iOS 5 and iOS 6 users as well, though Sharon says that there will be minute style differences between them. The redesigned app is only going to be available for iPhone and iPod touch, Sharon says that Facebook doesn’t have plans to redesign the iPad app since the old design suits tablet users best. Facebook’s updated app will go live in the App Store later today.

Facebook and Twitter have released new apps for iOS 7, borrowing the iPhone and iPad software’s flatter UI style, among other features. iOS 7 is out for you to install
Today, on the day Apple has released iOS 7, Skype has rolled out a new version of its app for the iPad and iPad. The new update improves a number of existing features, it also allows users to join group voice calls through their iOS device. Its now much easier for users to join a conference call or a group conversation with their friends and family through their Apple mobile device. Unfortunately, there’s no iOS 7 redesign as we’ve seen with other apps that were updated today, perhaps that might come at a later date.
This update also brings improvements for voice and video call quality, Skype almost always mentions this improvement in its app updates. The changelog also states that improvements have been made to accessibility options and the dialpad, but it doesn’t elaborate further on them. As previously mentioned, a lot of apps that have been updated today come with a redesign that’s much more consistent with the new “flat” user interface in iOS 7. The changelog of this latest Skype for iOS update does not mention anything about a redesign. There’s no word as yet when or if Microsoft is planning on revamping the app’s visuals. Skype for iPhone and iPad is available as a free download from the iTunes App Store.

Today’s the big day. iOS 7 is here
After unveiling the update back in June at its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple has now finally released iOS 7 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to the public. The firmware has been rolled out a short while after iTunes 11.1 was released, along with iTunes Radio. Apple’s new music streaming service has now gone live for everyone. iOS 7 is available over-the-air, users should begin receiving notifications for the update soon if they haven’t already. Alternatively, one can launch the Settings app on their iOS device, go into General followed by Software Update to check if iOS 7 update is available for their device.
iOS 7 has a brand new “flat” user interface which is without a doubt one of the biggest change it comes with. Apart from the new UI, there are a lot of new features as well, Apple’s intention here is to make the user experience “simple, more useful and more enjoyable.” iOS 7 is compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod 5G, iPad 2, third and fourth generation iPad and the iPad mini. Both new iPhones, the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, will come with iOS 7 pre-installed when they are released on September 20th. So go ahead, download the latest iOS firmware update on your iOS device.
