The Weirdest iOS 7 Beta Feature (?) Yet

So here’s something strange. Syncing from iCloud seems to have changed a bit. And I honestly can’t tell if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.

Apple Confirms “Frequent Locations” Feature In iOS 7, Will Allow You To Disable It

Apple Confirms Frequent Locations Feature In iOS 7, Will Allow You To Disable ItOne of the features found in the latest iOS 7 beta would be a tracking feature. For those unfamiliar the feature is called “Frequent Locations” and it basically allows Apple to collect data on where you’ve been for the purpose of learning about you in order to provide more useful, location-based information.

Given that Apple got a fair amount of flack over the collecting of location data, it’s safe to say that this feature was met with a lot of opposition, with some expressing their concern on how dangerous this location data can be if it made its way into the wrong hands, or how it might seem like an invasion of privacy.

Well Apple has since confirmed that the feature does exist, but the good news is similar to the location feature on your iPhone, you will have the option of toggling the feature on and off, meaning that if you don’t think Frequent Locations will be a feature you’d use often, if at all, you’re free to disable it and keep your privacy intact.

Hilarious Video Shows Jony Ive’s Inspiration For iOS 7

iOS 7 will be the latest iOS update from Apple that not only will introduce new features, but will also bring about a long-overdue interface redesign. Granted the layout is pretty much the same, but the icons, buttons, toggles, and etc. will be drastically different from before. Some have criticized the update claiming that the colors are a bit too colorful and can’t be taken seriously, compared to the more subdued look of iOS 6 which features a more “realistic” design.

Others don’t seem to mind and welcome the change, and while we’re not sure where Jony Ive got his inspiration from with regards to the color scheme of iOS 7, Max Wohlleber has uploaded a pretty funny video which you can check out above, that seems to have inspired the overall color scheme of iOS 7. If you have a minute to spare you might want to check it out for some laughs. In any case iOS 7 is expected to debut later this year, presumably alongside the new iPhone. If you’ve watched the video, what do you guys think? We know it’s meant to be a joke but seems relatively spot on, doesn’t it?

iOS 7 UI Shown To Be More Favored In Polls

iOS 7 UI Shown To Be More Favored In PollsWhen Apple announced iOS 7, there were many who were incredibly excited at the new UI which to be honest, was long overdue for a refresh. However at the same time there were those who did not like the new UI and its color scheme and felt that it ruined iOS for them. Naturally there will be more than one side to these sorts of things, which is why several iOS 7 beta testers have launched a couple of polls in which they ask participants as to which UI they prefer – iOS 7 or iOS 6?

The poll basically compares the new icons to the older icons of several apps, such as the App Store, Safari, Siri, Maps, the toggle switches, and etc. While these polls are hardly scientific in nature and hardly cover all iOS users, for the most part they do seem to favor iOS 7 at this point. One particular poll set up by LukeW seems to skew heavily towards iOS 7. However in the case of GiantSquid’s poll, the numbers are a bit more balanced, with some participants showing a preference to iOS 6’s icons, and even those who favor iOS 7 are only marginally ahead of those who prefer iOS 6.

Of course it should be noted that when Apple announced iOS 7, it was hardly a finished product and there were reports that there were many changes left to be made, which we guess we are slowly seeing in every beta release. What do you guys think? iOS 6 or iOS 7?

Apple Releases iOS 7 Beta 5 For Developers

Apple Releases iOS 7 Beta 5 For Developers

Just over a week ago Apple seeded iOS 7 beta 4 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to developers. This time around the company has been following a fortnightly release schedule for beta versions, at least it was following that schedule before the Developer Portal got hacked and Apple shut it down for about a week. Now after merely a week, Apple has seeded the next beta version of iOS 7 to developers. If previous rumors are true, then just one more beta version will be released prior to the Gold Master build. The GM build is followed by the public release.

The iOS 7 beta 5 changelog lists improvements and bug fixes. It might bring subtle user interface improvements as well. It was said last month that Apple would continue to tweak the UI throughout the beta phase, and we’ve seen evidence of that in the previous beta. Registered developers can now download iOS 7 beta 5 IPSW through the Developer Portal, or if they already have a previous iOS 7 beta running on a device, they can download the update over-the-air. Apple is expected to release iOS 7 for the public this fall.

Apple iOS 7 beta 5 download goes live for iPhone & iPad plus Apple TV seed

Apple has released its iOS 7 beta 5 download for developers, updating those on the bleeding edge with their iPhones and iPads, as well as a new Apple TV seed. The fifth release, spotted by 9to5Mac, follows beta 4 at the tail-end of July and mostly comprises bugfixes as the new version of iOS gets […]

Apple opens iOS 7 beta 5 to developers, public release creeps ever closer

It seems like Apple just rolled out its iOS 7 beta 4 — and its bevy of bug fixes — to developers, but Cupertino is already seeding the next build. The iOS 7 beta 5 is available as an OTA download via Software Update, and we imagine it will bring even more performance tweaks this time around. Registered devs can hit up the source link to learn more, while the rest of us will have to be content with knowing the mobile OS must be getting pretty close to a public release.

Apple To Fix iOS ‘Power Adapter’ Hack

Apple To Fix iOS ‘Power Adapter’ HackApple has stepped forward to say that they have managed to solve and fix an obscure security flaw which could result in hackers gaining access to data on an iOS device, where this flaw would require the use of a specially-designed custom USB device which resembles a charger, although in reality, it will carry a minuscule Linux-powered computer that was specially designed to insert malware. This particular fix can already be found in the most recent iOS 7 beta version (which we do know has allegedly confirmed iPhone 5S fingerprint scanning technology). Not only that, you can be sure that this particular fix will be part of the iOS 7 update when it rolls out to the masses later this fall, as it is capable of informing users each time they hook up to a different computer, be it through the power adapter itself.

The hack has been known as the Mactans, where this faux “power adapter” held a very small Beagleboard computer that should cost under $50, and it can be specially programmed to send malware into the iPhone via the Lightning connector. In fact, it has been reported to have infected an iPhone 5 that ran on iOS 6 successfully, where the pre-programmed malware dialled the number of one of the researchers who was behind the hack.

iTunes 11.1 Beta With iTunes Radio Released For Developers

iTunes 11.1 Beta With iTunes Radio Released For Developers

When Apple releases iOS 7 to the public later this year, presumably in fall, a new version of iTunes will also be released. Up till now Apple has seeded four betas of iOS 7 to registered developers. The company is expected to seed two more before finally releasing the GM build prior to the public release. Today alongside iOS 7 beta 4, Apple also seeded iTunes 11.1 beta. This beta version of iTunes comes with Apple’s Pandora-killer service called iTunes Radio, a service that is fully integrated in iOS 7 as well.

Right now only registered developers have access to this software as well as the iTunes Radio service. Apple does not release beta firmware to the public. Both iOS 7 and iTunes Radio were unveiled last month at WWDC 2013. Apple had long been rumored to be developing a Pandora like music streaming service, many believed that it undercut Pandora itself. Nevertheless, the folks at Pandora are nonplussed about iTunes Radio, they believe it only brings Apple at par with other companies in the music streaming niche. iTunes 11.1 with iTunes Radio is now available for download through Apple’s developer center.
