Apple Claims iOS 7 Update Will Fix Random Home Screen Crashes

ios-7iPhone users who are using iOS 7 have been whispering among themselves about one particular bug that has plagued their devices – random home screen crashes. Of course, this does not affect everyone, but it does affect some, which should not happen at all. After all, it is an Apple operating system that we are talking about – things like crashes are meant to be the domain of Windows and to a (far) lesser extent, Android, but Apple? It would be anathema. The thing is, this random reboot of the home screen has been a sore point, where the color of the reboot screen will depend on the color of your iPhone. For instance, a white face iPhone results in a white screen of death, whereas a black face iPhone would end up with a black screen of death. Apple has a glimmer of hope at the end of the proverbial tunnel, touting that they are working on a fix to accompany iOS 7.1.

iOS 7.1 Beta 4 Released To Developers

iOS 7.1 Beta 4 Released To Developers

Apple is yet to roll out a major update for iOS 7. Ever since the firmware was publicly released in September 2013, the company has rolled out a few incremental updates to fix bugs and various issues, but so far no major update has graced users’ devices. That might change within a few weeks, as beta 4 of iOS 7.1 has finally been seeded to developers. iOS 7.1 has been making the rounds in beta stage for a few months now, this update is expected to bring user interface tweaks.

Moments ago Apple seeded iOS 7 beta 4 to registered developers, who can now download the latest firmware on their devices and go about finding any bugs or issues that need to be fixed. It is available over-the-air for developers already running a previous beta of iOS 7.1, it comes in at 112MB. Apple only seeds beta firmware to registered developers, these firmware files are not open to the public, they actually can’t be installed on an iOS device that hasn’t been registered as a developer device. The changelog only notes that this new iOS 7.1 beta comes with bug fixes and improvements, we should hear more about the changes once developers have had ample time to go through it. Apple today also released Apple TV software beta 4 and Xcode 5.1 beta 4.

iOS 7.1 Might Allow For Deletion Of OTA Update Files

iOS 7.1 Might Allow For Deletion Of OTA Update FilesWhen it comes to major iOS updates, they do tend to take up a fair amount of space on your phone, and if you opted for the 16GB model, well chances are you will run out of space faster than you’d like. Now back in October last year, Apple was faced with a lawsuit when an iOS user complained that they were not able to remove the installation files from their phone, especially since he wanted to run iOS 6 versus iOS 7, Apple’s latest operating system. Well it turns out that maybe this is a feature Apple could include in the next version of iOS 7, which is iOS 7.1 that has yet to be released.

According to screenshots captured by developers who managed to get their hands on the latest build of the update, it seems that they are able to head on over to the Settings menu and delete the OTA files manually, which could help free up some memory. However ironically enough it could be that this feature will be limited to iOS 7 users since iOS 6 isn’t exactly being supported anymore, at least it’s no longer Apple’s priority, but for those who don’t mind iOS 7, this could be a handy feature to help free up storage. Of course it is entirely possible that Apple might remove this feature in the final version of the update, but for now it appears to be available for those running the beta. No word on when Apple will release iOS 7.1, but rumors have suggested a March 2014 release.

iOS 7.1 Beta 3 Seeded To Developers, Introduces UI Updates

iOS 7.1 Beta 3 Seeded To Developers, Introduces UI UpdatesWe have been hearing reports that Apple is working on an update to iOS 7 in the form of iOS 7.1 Unlike previous updates of iOS 7 Apple has released in the past, the bump to iOS 7.1 is expected to be a fairly significant one and will be introducing a host of new changes, new features, and also bug fixes as well. There’s still no word on when Apple will begin seeding the update to iOS users, but in the meantime it looks like Apple has been busy seeding the update to developers and has recently released iOS 7.1 beta 3 to its developers.

According to reports, the update will be making a number of changes and will be bringing numerous bug fixes to the operating system, as well as updating some of the visuals of the operating system, changing some color schemes and design in the process. There will also be new options added, such as the ability to directly disable the parallax effect when choosing a new wallpaper, which reportedly causes motion sickness for some users. Prior to this, the settings to disable the effect was found quite hidden in the settings which was not as accessible. There will also be new animations added to the operating system as some of the many changes that Apple will be making.

While we have no idea when Apple will release iOS 7.1, some have speculated that it might only be in March that we might see the update, putting it somewhat close to WWDC 2014 which is usually when Apple announces their next major update, which we can only assume is iOS 8.

iFile 2 For iOS 7 Released In Cydia

iFile 2 For iOS 7 Released In Cydia

There are a number of reasons why people choose to jailbreak their devices. Some like the advanced customization options that are otherwise not available on stock iOS firmware. Some jailbreak their devices for the sole reason of installing pirated applications. Then there are people who go down this road so that they’re able to install apps that Apple doesn’t allow in the App Store. iFile is one such popular app that has been around for a few years now. With the recent release of an iOS 7 untethered jailbreak, Carsten Heinelt, the developer, has now released the iFile 2 for iOS app in Cydia.

iFile is a complete file manager and viewer which runs under user root. Basically the app gives users full access to the files on their jailbroken devices, it works like Finder does on a Mac computer. Not only can users view files through the iFile app, they can also handle customization and advanced management. iFile 2 for iOS 7 has an all new design which brings it in line with the user interface of Apple’s latest and greatest iOS update. There are new buttons, a new icon and an “iOS 7 look and feel.” Those interested in downloading the app through Cydia first need to jailbreak their device. The recent release covers iOS 7.0 to iOS 7.0.4 on all supported Apple mobile devices.
