78 Percent Of All Apple Mobile Devices Now Run iOS 7

78 Percent Of All Apple Mobile Devices Now Run iOS 7

Earlier this year at the Worldwide Developers Conference Apple unveiled iOS 7, its greatest iOS update yet. The company completely changed the user interface of iOS and also bundled in dozens of new features. After a lengthy beta period, in which the firmware was only seeded to registered developers, Apple finally released iOS 7 to the public in September. Since then iOS 7′s dominance over its predecessors has increased by the day. Last figures, as of December 29th, from Apple reveal that 78 percent of all of its iOS devices around the world are now powered by iOS 7.

Its predecessor, iOS 6, now accounts for 18 percent whereas the versions before that collectively make up four percent. iOS 7′s growth has increased significantly over the past few months. Back in October distribution stats showed that iOS 7 was installed on 64 percent of all devices. In early December the number had jumped to 74 percent. Surely the number would have been even higher if iOS 7 supported a number of legacy iOS devices that were very popular back in the day, including iPhone 3GS, the original iPad and all iPod touch models prior to the fifth generation iPod touch. With the recent release of an iOS 7 untethered jailbreak, its likely that those who had willingly held on to iOS 6.x might make the jump now that they can unshackle their devices on the latest firmware version as well.

Taig App Store Removed From iOS 7 Untethered Jailbreak After Piracy Concerns

Taig App Store Removed From iOS 7 Untethered Jailbreak After Piracy Concerns

Last week, out of the blue, the evad3rs developers team released the iOS 7 untethered jailbreak for all supported devices. It was an unexpected release because the community wasn’t made aware of the progress for quite some time, which is usually the case with planned jailbreak releases. Some believe that evad3rs might have rushed to get it out the door when rumors started circulating that the iOS 7 untethered jailbreak exploit had been stolen and sold to a private buyer. After the release, users who had language set to Chinese found that they got the Taig app store instead of Cydia and it was then revealed that evad3rs had teamed up with the Chinese company to load its storefront on those jailbroken devices that had language set to Chinese. Almost a week later, they have updated the evasi0n iOS 7 untethered jailbreak to remove Taig.

The community had voiced its concern about the fact that Taig was hosting a plethora of cracked applications and tweaks, which can’t be found by default on Cydia. Given that the jailbreak developers have always been against piracy, the team vowed to work with Taig to remove pirated applications. However once they figured that ”the depth of the transgression against the software developers and jailbreak community” couldn’t be overlooked, they decided to remove Taig from iOS 7 untethered jailbreak altogether. It was rumored that perhaps the company had paid $1 million to the team so that Taig could be bundled, however evad3rs have denied this allegation.

Evasi0n iOS 7 Jailbreak Faces Controversy Over Pirated Apps Store

Evasi0n iOS 7 Jailbreak Faces Controversy Over Pirated Apps StoreEarlier we reported that the folks at Evad3rs had released the untethered iOS 7 jailbreak but it seems that along with the jailbreak, they include an app store called Taig which is from China, but as it turns out Taig is a third party store in which there are many cracked apps, essentially meaning that they are pirated apps. While it is commonly understood that when one jailbreaks their device, some of them do so because they wish to download pirated apps as opposed to paying for it via the iTunes App Store. Others have more legitimate reasons, such as wanting to tweak their device.

In any case it would seem that the inclusion of Taig has been met with a lot of negativity, to the point where the team had to release a statement on the matter. “Taig has never asked us to disclose our exploits to them, let alone sell them. We were simply asked to bundle their third-party app store in China in a similar way we bundle and distribute Cydia around the world as an additional App Store, and in a similar way to how previous jailbreaks like blackra1n have bundled non-Cydia stores.” Taig has agreed to work on removing pirated apps in their store, with Evad3rs claiming that they will keep an eye on the situation, and will remove Taig if the matter cannot be resolved.

iOS 7 Untethered Jailbreak For Supported Devices Released

iOS 7 Untethered Jailbreak For Supported Devices Released

Ever since iOS 7 was publicly released, there has been a lot of speculation about the possibility of a jailbreak. It took developers quite a while to work things out and today the first ever iOS 7 untethered jailbreak has been released for all supported devices. There was no tethered jailbreak available for iOS 7, this is the first jailbreak solution released for Apple’s latest OS update and it supports all incremental updates through iOS 7.0.4. All new devices are covered as well, which means that jailbreak hopefuls can now have their way with the iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPad Air and the iPad mini with Retina Display too.

The @evad3rs dev team is responsible for this iOS 7 untethered jailbreak, which has taken over three months to arrive. A couple of weeks back the team had said that work was going smoothly on the jailbreak, that was the last update on its status. The procedure itself is quite simple. Just download the required program from evasion7 website for either Windows and Mac, connect your device to the computer and simply follow the onscreen instructions. The entire procedure shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. iTunes must be installed on the computer and be sure to make a backup of your data before proceeding.

Apple Requiring Developers To Submit iOS 7 Optimized Apps From 1st Feb 2014

Apple Requiring Developers To Submit iOS 7 Optimized Apps From 1st Feb 2014While most developers have been more than happy to get their iOS 7 optimized apps out there, there are still plenty of apps in the iTunes App Store which have yet to be updated to be in line with either the iOS 7 look, or optimized for the latest operating system. Sometimes it’s because the apps are developed by third-party developers for companies such as banks, so the update isn’t necessarily in their control, but it looks like they will have to speed things up because in a notice issued by Apple to all of its iOS developers, starting from 1st February 2014, all app submissions and app updates must be optimized to run on iOS 7.

However this does not mean that apps need to resemble iOS 7 and adopt its flatter and more minimalist look. After all this is entirely up to the developers themselves, but in terms of features and compatibility, the app will need to play nicely with Apple’s latest operating system, and possibly with the 64-bit architecture that Apple introduced with the iPhone 5s and its A7 chipset. For those who don’t keep up with Apple’s new guidelines, well safe to say they can expect their apps/updates to be rejected. We suppose this is also good news for users who can expect to have iOS 7 optimized apps in the near future.

Foursquare v7.0 For iOS Gets A Complete Revamp

Foursquare v7.0 For iOS Gets A Complete Revamp

If you’re one of those people who like “checking-in” to every location they go to, then you probably are a Foursquare user. The service has been around for quite some time now, and it contributed a lot to the trend of checking-in to places. Back when Apple released iOS 7 in September, Foursquare released an updated app so that its visuals could better compliment those of Apple’s newest mobile OS update. Now, Foursquare version 7.0 has been released for iOS 7, the app has been given a complete revamp.

The app is claimed to be faster, smarter apart from the fact that it has a whole new look. Foursquare for iOS will now tell “what you need to know” whenever a user arrives somewhere they haven’t been before. For example if a user enters a restaurant for the first time, Foursquare will automatically push a notification about the best thing to order or a special that’s being offered, even if the app hasn’t even been launched. The app will also show more of what’s nearby. Whenever the app is launched, it will “shuffle the deck” to show tips and specials near the user’s location, users can hit up the feed to see what their friends are up to. Revamped Foursquare for iOS 7 is live now and available as a free download from the App Store.
