Pinterest For iOS Gets Animated Pinning Shortcuts

Pinterest For iOS Gets Animated Pinning ShortcutsAn app should never, ever, remain just where it is – being stagnant is a surefire recipe for disaster in this fast paced world. Well, in March this year, we did mention that Pinterest would be introducing a new look for all its users (where it did bring back some old features along the way), and a couple of months later, Pinterest did roll out an app update for Android as well as iOS platforms. Just last month, Pinterest now allowed users to search through their own pins for a higher degree of usefulness.

The latest iOS version of Pinterest now has the advantage of an animated shortcut which would come in handy if you want to repin, like or send pins to your mates whenever you press on an entry. Some will say that this is rather similar in function to Tumblr’s sharing tools, but it must be noted that the menu itself will boast of fancier graphics which will definitely fall in line with the social networks’ overall aesthetic. Apart from that, Pinterest has also thrown in an Edit Home Feed button that makes it easier to housekeep your pins on the iPhone, in addition to sending pins to your friends from the iPad. Given its CEO’s stance on the importance of mobile, it’s only natural for Pinterest to keep polishing its apps. The newest iPhone version, for instance, brings with it an animated shortcut for repinning, liking and sending pins to pals when you press on an entry. Though similar in function to Tumblr’s sharing tools, the menu boasts fancier graphics that fit the social networks’ aesthetic. As a nice bonus, Pinterest’s also adding an Edit Home Feed button for speedier housekeeping on the iPhone and the ability to send pins to your friends from the iPad. Assuming you’re willing to wade through a deluge of recipes, inspirational quotes and bridal photos, you can check out the app via the links below.

Kindle for iOS introduces sample downloads and custom dictionaries

Kindle for iOS introduces sample downloads and custom dictionaries

It’s been a while since Kindle for iOS users have been able to download content directly from the app, thanks to Apple’s 30 percent fee for in-app purchases. Today, Amazon is reintroducing that feature — albeit a modified version — in its latest update, available now in iTunes. From the existing library search, you can browse Amazon’s store for sample downloads where available. You won’t be able to purchase the full book, but you can at least discover new content in a slightly more efficient manner. Additionally, you can now import you own dictionaries — like medical or legal texts — if the default one simply doesn’t suit your needs. To get your paws on the update, head on over the source link below.

Groupon Reserve discounted reservations service comes to iOS

Groupon Reserve discounted reservations service comes to iOS

Groupon’s iOS app just scored a refresh this week, adding access to the firm’s new Reserve discount reservations platform via a dedicated tab. Savored users should be familiar with the concept: secure a spot at hit restaurants just as you can on OpenTable, but Groupon’s flavor packs a compelling value add. Instead of earning negligible points towards dining gift certificates, Savored (and now Groupon Reserve) members can snag discounts of up to 40 percent at select restaurants in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. The feature is now available in Groupon’s iOS app, which you can download (or update) at the source link below.

GoPro App 2.0 lets action cam owners save and share their footage

GoPro App 2 lets action cam owners save and share their media

Since launch, the GoPro App has primarily served as a remote control; it hasn’t been much good for reviewing the day’s shooting. That won’t be an issue with the newly launched GoPro App 2.0. Both Android and iOS users can now browse their action camera’s memory card, save and play media on a mobile device, and share any saved clips through email, MMS and social networks like Instagram. Windows Phone users aren’t in line for the update right now, but their Android and iOS counterparts can grab both the new app and corresponding camera firmware upgrades at the source links.

Android Tablets Command 67% Of Tablet Market, Beats Out The iPad

Android Tablets Command 67% Of Tablet Market, Beats Out The iPadApple’s iPad has dominated the tablet scene for a long time, and given its construction and familiar operating system and overall ease of use, it is understandable. However with Android manufacturers starting to introduce cheaper and more powerful Android tablets, like the new Nexus 7, it is not surprising that Apple’s market share for tablets has been chipped away, and a new report by Strategy Analytics has shown that Android’s tablet market share has grown to 67% in the second quarter of 2013, while Apple’s market share has fallen to 28%, with Microsoft falling to 4.5%.

Of course Android’s tablet market share is the combination of a variety of manufacturers from Samsung, ASUS, Google, Amazon, and etc., so it isn’t surprising that their combined market share is that high. According to Strategy Analytics Director of Tablets, Peter King, he attributes Apple’s decline due to lack of new models introduced in that quarter. Apple’s iPad usually sees refreshes early in the year, but with the last iPad model being introduced late last year along with the iPad mini, we expect that new tablets to be introduced around the same time later this year, so perhaps Apple’s numbers will change then, but for now Android appears to be dominating.

Low-cost plastic-clad iPhone mentioned in China Labor Watch report

Low-cost plastic-clad iPhone mentioned in China Labor Watch report

Remember that China Labor Watch report we recently covered? After digging further into the document, 9to5Mac‘s unearthed more possible evidence about that often leaked, low-cost plastic-clad iPhone. The introduction states:

Its assembled products include iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, and low-priced plastic iPhones.

Then, on page 27:

Today’s work is to paste protective film on the iPhone’s plastic back cover to prevent it from being scratched on assembly lines. This iPhone model with a plastic cover will soon be released on the market by Apple. […] The new cell phone has not yet been put into mass production, so quantity is not as important.

Of course, there’s no definitive proof that Apple will be launching a more affordable iPhone made of polycarbonate — after all the company might just be testing prototypes that are not destined to market. Still, the information in this report sure gives all these recent iPhone rumors a lot more merit.
