In what is most likely a response to Instagram’s recently-announced video features, Vine has added some hefty new features to its iOS app, including channels, new camera tools, as well as a “revining” feature that lets you share Vines on your own profile, similar to how retweets work.

Vine has added channels (or categories) to the Explore section in the app, as well as categories that feature popular Vines and Vines that are “on the rise.” There are 15 channels total, and include categories like entertainment, comedy, food & drink, sports, and even cat and dog categories, because those are really popular on the internet apparently.

The app has also been updated with some new camera tools, including a new grid view, as well as a focus button to allow users to select the area of the video to focus on by tapping on the screen. There’s also a ghost button that saves transparent frames from the previous shot. Still no filters, though.

As for revines, Vine is letting users reshare a Vine that they enjoy and have it show up for their friends. They also made it a single-tap process, where if you find a Vine that you find entertaining, all you have to do is tap the revine button and it’ll show up in your feed as a revined Vine. Fancy, eh?

In this update, Vine also added the ability to protect your account from strangers, meaning that only people you approve will be able to follow you and view your posts. Other than that, the app update comes with your usual bugfixes and performance improvements. It seems this update is only good for iOS, so it seems we’ll be waiting a bit for it to show up on Android, but hang tight!

Sharing your location through Glympse has been a time-sensitive affair, with friends and family receiving links to maps that would plot your position for a few hours at most. Now, however, Glympse has partnered with Evernote to save records of your travels. Simply share your current location broadcast to Evernote and the complete trek will be saved to a “My Glympse Trails” folder. Android users are getting the first crack at the new feature starting today, but folks running the iOS app are set to receive the integration shortly. Next time you fire up the Nook app on your Android tablet, you’ll be able to browse HD magazines — assuming your device has a 1280 x 720 screen. Introduced three months ago on Retina iPads, the feature now jumps to the latest version of the Android app, along with a number of other updates. New magazine titles aside, version 3.4 lets you enlarge book illustrations and adds support for the system’s assistive technology for blind and low-vision users. So, you can go wild with screen magnification on Android 4.2 or higher, or listen to the app speak via TalkBack on 4.1. Meanwhile, the Nook app for iOS comes equipped with bug fixes and a better way to organize books in a series. Sure, these updates don’t bring a bunch of new major features, but they show that Barnes & Noble isn’t likely to axe its mobile apps in the near future like it did the ones for Macs and PCs.

Like many, many (many) other programmers, NBC Universal’s USA Network has had its own iOS app, USA Anywhere, for quite some time. However, users have been disappointed with the lack of past episode availability, among other foibles, so USA has just taken the wraps off a new app called Anywhere Plus, available for free on iTunes. You’ll now be able to watch all its programs a day after they air and back episodes for certain shows, assuming you’re signed up for the network with a cable provider. Even if you’re not, selected episodes are now available along with behind-the-scenes clips, interviews and the like. You’ll also get a program guide and the usual social network bells and whistles, so if you’ve been looking to get your Psych or Burn Notice fix on the go, hit the source.
