Project Anarchy, Havok’s mobile game development suite now available at no cost

Havok — the physics middleware engine used by almost every big console and PC game — announced its start-to-finish mobile game development suite will be available at no cost to developers. Project Anarchy has tools for everything: visuals, physics, artificial intelligence and animation. We say “no cost” instead of free for a reason: Havok expects a few things out of its users in return. It wants to co-market some finished games and for clients to become part of its development community. Currently, that dev community includes folks programming for iOS, Android and Tizen. Microsofties may not be left out, however, as Havok has “flexible business models” for Windows Phone if you ping its sales team. Full details in the links below.

DirecTV GenieGo takes the fight to Sling, brings TV streaming anywhere on PC and iOS

DirecTV GenieGo adds live streaming anywhere on PC and iOS, takes on Sling directly

DirecTV recently switched the name of its Nomad transcoding device to GenieGo to match its new DVRs, a change we first noticed on its Android app. On Windows PC and iOS the apps are about to get a new update that changes the name and lets users stream video from their DVRs over WiFi even when they’re away from home (Mac and Android support is due later in the year.) Previously, it allowed users to stream live and recorded TV, or download recorded TV to a mobile device for viewing offline, but Slingbox-style streaming of live or recorded TV anywhere is new, and brings it closer to the device we thought it could be when it launched. Solid Signal and DBSTalk report the incoming update (not live yet, but it should pop up tomorrow) is easy to use, letting users stream recordings, start a recording so it can stream or remotely setting up the transcoder to make a mobile copy users can download once they get home. Satellite TV competitor Dish has brought deeper integration of Sling into its new Hopper DVRs, and now DirecTV has its own in-house solution, anyone thinking of switching sides?

Also on the docket are improved transit, walking and biking directions, which can be viewed in 3D. The interface has been streamlined too, with a number of informational layers like Wikipedia located under a handy Earth logo in the top left off the app. The release of 7.1 also marks the app’s availability in more than 100 countries. Poppy turns iPhone into ViewMasterlike 3D display and camera video

Remember the View-Master? We’ve already seen goggles from Hasbro and Sanwa that transform the iPhone into a 3D viewer, but Poppy plans to spice things up by adding 3D photo and video capture to the mix. The device, which contains no electronics, is about the size of medium pair of binoculars and features a slot which accepts an iPhone 5. It’s launching on Kickstarter today for less than $50, along with a matching app. We got the chance to take a prototype for a spin and it worked like a charm. Check out the gallery and campaign link below, then read on after the break.

Dropbox update for iOS adds swipe gestures, multi-file sharing

Dropbox‘s latest update for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch solves some of the minor niggles we’ve had with its iOS version. You can now share links to folders direct from the app, while the refresh also adds the ability select and share multiple files at once. Alongside the obligatory bug fixes and performance improvements, Dropbox version 2.3 also throws in a handful of new touchscreen-friendly gestures to the mix, allowing the user to share, move, delete or tag favorite files with a swipe. The update’s started to roll out to our iOS devices, or you can jump the queue at the source link below.
