Facebook Paper App For iOS Updated

Facebook Paper App For iOS UpdatedFacebook has just announced a major update to its iOS app, where it claims that there are new features thrown into the mix, including the likes of new story buttons, notifications, and photo comments, among others. Facebook’s Paper App was first introduced to the world at the end of January before it hit the iOS platform in the next month. After 2 months of use, Facebook Paper has “grown up” to arrive at version 1.1.

Facebook Paper 1.1 is an upgrade that will enable users to access specifically woven social content in a cleaner and less cluttered environment. The features club would be on the receiving end of new additions such as birthdays and events notifications. Birthday and event news are now embedded in the globe icon located on the top of the Facebook page, instead of being part of the news feed.

Apart from that, photo comments too, have been thrown into the mix, where users are able to attach a photo to the comment thread of a post. This feature happens to be rather popular with the web version, and according to Michael Reckhow, product manager for Facebook, “Photo comments are something we added to Facebook not too long ago, and we found that it’s now something people can’t live without.”

How do you find your updated Facebook Paper experience on iOS been?

Beats Music Embraces In-App Subscriptions To Drive Subscriber Base

beats-music

Beats Music is a relatively new on-demand music streaming service. Due to its intelligent recommendation features the service has actually become quite popular over the past few months. While the app is free to download users must pay $9.99 per month after their 7-day free trial ends. Previously Beats Music circumvented Apple’s in-app purchase system to let potential subscribers pay through carrier billing or its own website, that way it wouldn’t have to give Cupertino a 30 percent cut. Now though Beats Music lets users subscribe to the service from straight within the iOS app through in-app purchases.

Its possible that Beats Music might not have been happy with the previous means of subscription simply because they might not have been driving a great number of new subscribers. For average users it is much easier to subscribe from within the app since they already have their payment methods setup with iTunes. The downside for Beats is that for every subscriber that comes through an in-app purchase, it has to give Apple $3 out of the $9.99 it earns.

A recent update to the Beats Music application brings an improved “The Sentence” feature, which is one of the pivotal recommendation features of this service. Other improvements include better offline playback and social features.

Flickr 3.0 Brings Filters, Editing Tools And More

Flickr 3.0 Brings Filters, Editing Tools And More

Yahoo today launched a completely redesigned Flickr 3.0 application for iOS and Android. Right off the bat it seems like the service is trying to compete with Instagram head-on. It now offers filters like its Facebook owned counterpart as well as advanced photo editing tools. Users are now able to view each photo’s metadata. They will have access to information such as the aperture setting, the camera used and more.

Its similarity to Instagram isn’t just limited to filters. Flickr users will now also be able to comment, like and share photos straight through the new application. The app can now also be used to capture up to 30 seconds of HD video with live filters applied. It even has a feed which users can scroll through to see the latest uploads from their friends, something that users have long been able to do on Instagram. That was the entire premise behind the popular photo sharing service.

The new Flickr application has an auto-sync feature as well which uploads original quality photos from the handset to users’ Flickr accounts. Another major change is that the app no longer allows users to sign in with a Facebook or Google account. Now a Yahoo account is mandatory.

While the app might not compel a whole lot of people to ditch Instagram, existing Flickr users will definitely get a much better experience. Flickr is available as a free download from Google Play Store and the iTunes App Store.
