Nokia Pulls HERE Maps From iTunes App Store

Nokia Pulls HERE Maps From iTunes App StoreThere are a variety of mapping apps available in Apple’s iTunes App Store, although by default Apple Maps are installed. However due to the snafu of the initial launch of Apple Maps, Google came to the rescue with an old favorite with Google Maps, but at the same time we figure that there are those who might still prefer alternatives, such as Bing, or maybe even Nokia’s HERE Maps. Unfortunately for fans of the latter, Nokia has since pulled their HERE Maps from the iTunes App Store, claiming that the changes made in iOS 7 would harm the user experience of the app.

According to a statement made by Nokia, “We have made the decision to remove our HERE Maps app from the Apple App Store because recent changes to iOS 7 harm the user experience. iPhone users can continue to use the mobile web version of HERE Maps under m.here.com., offering them core location needs, such as search, routing, orientation, transit information and more, all completely free of charge.” If you’re wondering if this has anything to do with the Microsoft-Nokia deal, you might be mistaken as the HERE Maps division will remain with Nokia after the acquisition goes through.

So, anyone else bummed out by HERE Maps being removed from the iTunes App Store?

Best TV Show Tracker for iOS

This article was written on August 30, 2012 by CyberNet.

    Track tv shows schedules ios

I like to keep track of my of when my favorite TV shows are going to be on TV, and I’ve used all kinds of iOS apps to help me do that. The short list of the ones I’ve tried include TV Show Tracker, TV Forecast, and TvShow Time. Most of them are paid, and they each have their own strengths, but none of them felt like they were exactly what I was looking for.

Once I turned to iTV Shows 2 [$2.99 on iTunes] there was no looking back. This universal app looks beautiful on both the iPhone and iPad, and with the built-in iCloud syncing any show you add on one device will immediately appear on your other iOS devices. That also means the notifications for upcoming shows will appear on all your devices so that you know a little before or after they are going to come on. I find it to be a great companion to sites like Hulu since you can have it display a notification up to a day after a show airs, which in some cases is when they appear on the streaming sites. iTV Shows also keeps track of the shows you watch so that you know exactly where you left off.

There is only one thing that I don’t like about this app. If a TV show has multiple upcoming episodes, such as Burn Notice used in the screenshot above, it will only show the next upcoming episode in the list. I want an option to show all upcoming episodes of a show in the list so that I don’t have to click into a TV show to see the other soon-to-air episodes. It’s a minor complaint, and given how much better this is compared to the competition it’s something I’m able to overlook for the time being.

iOS Proves To Be More Popular Than Android For Shopping During The Christmas Season

iOS Proves To Be More Popular Than Android For Shopping During The Christmas SeasonWhen it comes to online shopping, do you prefer to use your mobile device or would you prefer to log onto a PC? Well if the recent statistics provided by IBM’s Digital Analytics Benchmark Hub is any indication, it would seem as though iOS is the platform of choice when it comes to online shopping, with the results showing that online shopping done on iOS devices accounted for 83% of sales, and was around 5 times more than Android devices. IBM reports that iOS drove 23% of sales versus Android’s 4.6%.

The report also revealed that iOS users tended to spend more on their purchases, with an average of $93.94 per order, compared to Android users who spent about $48.10 per order. It was also found that tablet users tended to pay more when they shopped online compared to smartphone users, with an average of $95.61 versus $85.11 for smartphone shoppers. These are some pretty interesting statistics and while they might not necessarily tell the whole story, it is pretty compelling nonetheless.

In the meantime what do you guys make of it? Is there a particular reason why iOS users tend to prefer shopping on their mobile devices and spend more, at least when compared to Android?
