Honda To Introduce iOS Mirroring In 2014 Civic Model

Honda To Introduce iOS Mirroring In 2014 Civic ModelEarlier this year it was announced that Honda would be getting some iOS integration in its vehicles with the Siri Eyes Free feature, which basically allowed drivers to activate and use Siri through the car’s controls, as opposed to actually having to hold the device which could be dangerous. Well it looks like Honda’s integration will be taken one step further, and according to reports, Honda is set to make an announcement early December where iOS integration will be taken deeper into their 2014 Honda Civic vehicles.

At this time it is not clear what we could be looking at, but one feature is said to be iOS mirroring where drivers will be able to interact with their iOS device through a 7” multitouch display built into the vehicle’s dash, similar to what was shown off during Apple’s WWDC 2013 event where the company unveiled the iOS in the Car feature. According to the folks at 9to5Mac, this might not be all as their source has informed them that the feature is “more than just simple mirroring”. Either way check back with us at a later date for the details, but in the meantime what do you guys think? It’s starting to look as though the platform wars will be taken to vehicles as well!

Structure Sensor for iPad: 3D Scanning to Go

When I decided to get an iPad instead of a Kindle to read my books, it opened up new realms of possibilities. The iPad is the first computer I switch on during the day, and the last to be switched off. There are lots of nifty things you can use the iPad for, and soon you’ll be able to use it as a 3D object scanner.

The Structure Sensor is made to fit onto the back of your iPad, thanks to a bracket that mounts above the rear-facing camera. It connects via a Lightning cable, and can connect to other devices thanks to USB connectivity.

The sensor and your iPad’s onboard capabilities allow this combination to measure the 3D space in any room, automatically capture 3D models of objects, and stimulate physics. You can also use the SDK to develop your own iOS apps for the device.

To use the sensor, simply walk around the object you want to scan, and its software will automatically stitch together a 3D model. Walk around it again to capture full color texture maps. The app also supports the ability to send 3D objects to Shapeways for printing.

The Structure Sensor is available for pre-order for $349(USD), and is expected to start shipping in April 2014.

Google+ for iOS with photos and location

After nearly a month, Google is delivering on its promise of bringing full-size photo and video backups to Google+ on iOS. The app’s version 4.6 update now lets iOS 7 users upload imagery at its original resolution as long as there’s enough available cloud storage. Photographers aren’t the only ones who benefit from the new software, though. It also introduces the location-sharing option from the Android release, translates posts in-line and unifies search. Socialites eager for more detail in their pictures (or their whereabouts) just need to visit the App Store for an upgrade.

Apple posts its first video trailer on the iOS App Store

    Clumsy Ninja video trailer

Android app shoppers have long had the luxury of watching video trailers on Google Play, but their iOS counterparts have had to be content with static images on the App Store. Apple’s portal just got livelier, though, as MacStories has noticed what may be the first App Store video clip. UK residents who visit the “featured” section of the store now see a trailer for Clumsy Ninja alongside the usual promo graphics and app icons. This isn’t necessarily a sign of things to come — other regions don’t see the trailer just yet, and it’s not present within Clumsy Ninja‘s app page. With that said, we won’t be shocked if App Store sizzle reels become commonplace.

Vine expands its reach internationally with support for more languages

Twitter’s six-second video sharing app Vine is making a play for more markets, announcing today that its apps for iOS and Android have been translated into 19 new languages, plus two more just on Android. Also available on Windows Phone and sporting a user base of over 40 million, a blog post also mentions Vine is working on ways to highlight popular clips on a country-by-country basis. Many of the Vine’s we’ve seen work in any language, but we suppose opening up access to the app to more people will only increase the creativity seen. Now, who can translate “Ooooh, kill ’em” into Polish?

Tumblr For iOS Gets An All New Design

Tumblr For iOS Gets An All New Design

Tumblr is a popular blogging platform that’s now owned by Yahoo. The team has updated Tumblr for iOS app which now has an all new design that’s much more in sync with the look and feel of iOS 7. Apple made some drastic user interface changes in its latest iOS version, since its release quite a lot of apps have been updated and redesigned to be more consistent with iOS 7. The dashboard, where posts from followed blogs are displayed, has received a total makeover and its now much more refined, clean and easy to navigate.

There’s also a new compose screen which contains post creation options in a grid layout. The app has a new activity tap which makes it easier to stay on top of all reblogs, followers and likes. Users also have the option to reblog faster than ever before, a feature that’s quite likely to be appreciated by Tumblr users. Another new feature in this update is autocomplete for tags, making it much faster to add relevant tags to posts. Tumblr for iOS works natively on both the iPhone and the iPad, so users on the tablet’s big screen get to use the new interface as well. The app is available for free from the App Store.
