SkyDrive For iOS Updated With Automatic Photo Uploads

SkyDrive For iOS Updated With Automatic Photo Uploads

Today Microsoft has rolled out a major update of the SkyDrive app for iOS. The biggest feature that this app comes with is automatic photo uploads, the app is now capable of automatically uploading all pictures taken with the device’s camera to SkyDrive. All photos are uploaded in the background and over Wi-Fi, though users have the option to enable upload on mobile networks and to allow video uploads as well. Automatic photo uploads aren’t enabled by default, users will have to manually opt in for the feature once the update is installed on their iOS device.

All pictures in the camera roll will automatically be uploaded to SkyDrive once the feature is enabled, there’s no way to prevent that as of now. The app is also capable of resizing photos automatically and uploading them instead of using originals which are bound to take up a lot of storage space and may worry users who tend to take a lot of photos. Several user interface tweaks have been made as well, the app now looks in sync with the look and feel of iOS 7. The automatic upload feature is only available in the Windows Phone and iOS SkyDrive apps as of now, Microsoft says that the feature might be added to Android as well. SkyDrive for iOS is a free download from the App Store.

SkyDrive for iOS adds auto camera backup

Microsoft has added automatic photo upload to its SkyDrive app for iOS, with the new Camera Backup feature pushing shots directly to the cloud once they’re snapped. The updated SkyDrive iOS app makes Camera Backup an option, naturally, and the uploads can be set to take place over WiFi and cellular data, or only when […]

ESPN renames ScoreCenter app to SportsCenter, adds a wealth of personalization

Say goodbye to ESPN’s ScoreCenter app. Don’t worry though, the sports broadcast network has renamed the popular mobile software SportsCenter alongside a redesign. The refresh brings video highlights, social functionality and personalized content to those looking to remain up to speed or follow along on-the-go. For example, you’ll now be able to set favorite teams to quickly display content and get info on those clubs to the app’s inbox. Clubhouses “for every team and league under the sun” serve up all of the latest franchise news in one convenient spot. Tweets from on-air commentators and shows are included with ESPN Now alongside access to WatchESPN content for easy streaming of live or archived events and much more. The latest version is now available for both iOS and Android devices via their respective app libraries.

SkyDrive gets camera backups on iOS, Facebook previews on the web (video)

    SkyDrive camera backup on iOS

Windows Phone owners have long had the option of backing up their photos to SkyDrive, but Microsoft hasn’t extended that courtesy to other platforms so far. The company must be feeling a little more generous today, as it just introduced automatic camera backups to SkyDrive for iOS. The update lets snap-happy users preserve both pictures and video, while the bandwidth-conscious can limit connection types and image sizes. There are a few welcome improvements to the app whether or not you plan to safeguard your gallery, including an iOS 7-themed makeover and the choice of opening documents in either Office Mobile or OneNote.

SkyDrive’s web client is getting a smaller, Facebook-oriented tune-up at the same time. Sharers can now get a preview of what their photos will look like on the social network, upload to existing albums and set permissions before the transfer begins. While the web upgrade isn’t quite as helpful as the new iOS app, it should minimize the chances of any SkyDrive-related social mishaps.

Donna personal assistant app updated for iOS 7, lets meeting attendees know if you’re running late

If you’ve ever run late for a meeting but weren’t able to tell the other attendees because you’re too busy battling traffic, then you might be interested in the latest update to Donna, the personal assistant iOS app from Incredible Labs that debuted earlier this year. Fondly referred to as “her” by company co-founder Kevin Cheng, Donna was designed to act as a smarter replacement for a regular calendar app, doing things like reminding you when to leave for an appointment and giving you the appropriate directions and weather conditions to get you there on time. Version 2.0 of the app, however, improves upon those features by allowing Donna to automatically email or text meeting participants that you’re on your way and let them know your ETA based on your location and preferred mode of transportation. It’s even smart enough to detect common places like your home or work as long as you’ve pre-programmed the app to do so. As before, Donna also detects conference calls in your calendar and can dial the number for you if you’ve set it up for that. If your busy life is in shambles and you’re constantly having to apologize for your tardiness, go on and download the latest version of Donna at the link below.

Logitech PowerShell Game Controller for iOS 7: Welcome Back, Buttons!

Like the MOGA Ace Power, Logitech’s PowerShell is part of the first generation of gaming controllers that make use of iOS 7′s controller API. While both controllers only work with a handful of games for now, their Apple’s long overdue API for third-party contorllers means the list of compatible games should easily grow in the future.

Seeing as the Ace Power and the PowerShell are the only horses in this race at the moment, early adopters can decide between the two based on a few factors. First off are the controls. The Ace Power has more input options than the PowerShell. In addition to the d-pad, four face buttons and two shoulder buttons that are also on the PowerShell, the Ace Power also has two analog sticks and two more shoulder buttons.

The second factor is portability. The Ace Power collapses into a smaller form, while the PowerShell is stuck in its elongated form. Third are their built-in batteries, which can also be used to charge the iOS device that’s docked into it. The Ace Power has an 1800 mAh battery while the PowerShell has a slightly smaller 1500 mAh battery.

So far it looks like the PowerShell is the inferior option, but one thing that’s sketchy about MOGA’s controller is it’s questionable build quality. Watch the hands-on videos of Kotaku and CNET and you’ll see what I mean. Granted, we’ve yet to see a similar test with Logitech’s offering, so I suggest you wait until multiple reviews are out there before choosing either one. Then there’s the fact that these controllers will only work with the iPhone 5, 5S, 5C and the fifth-generation iPod Touch.

I’ll wait for an iOS 7-compatible wireless controller so I can use it on my iPad. But if you really can’t wait, you can already place a pre-order for both the Logitech PowerShell and the MOGA Power ACE on the Apple Store. Both devices cost $100 (USD). The PowerShell is also available from Amazon and Best Buy.

Tumblr gets refreshed for iOS 7, lets you reblog that cat GIF that much faster

Tumblr has just updated its iOS app with a completely redesigned interface that more closely matches the aesthetic of Apple’s latest mobile operating system. The most significant change is that the activity view is now in its own tab so it’s that much easier to keep up with who reblogged, liked or commented on your posts. Additionally, posting a new entry is much more streamlined with a fast reblog button, larger post type icons, new animations, tag auto-completion, a drop-down schedule calendar and an all-new image uploader that presents your photos and videos in a friendlier grid view instead of just popping you over to the camera roll. So if you just can’t get enough of those Ryan Gosling memes or that funny cat GIF, head on over to the source link to update the app right now.
