Apple Store App For iPad Finally Released

For quite some time now Apple has allowed customers to shop through their iOS devices using the official Apple Store app. However, the company had never released a native app for the iPad, today it finally did. The official Apple Store app for iPad has finally been released, it is live now and available for download. Through the app, customers can browse items in the online store and directly shop through their Apple branded tablets.

The app is well designed and optimized for the tablet’s considerably large screen real estate. Users can take advantages of several gestures to navigate around the app, such as pinch to zoom and swipe. Product categories are displayed in a menu up top which disappears as the user starts to browse products. Swiping down from the top brings the menu back. Users can search for specific products, add them to the cart and checkout. After payment, they can choose if they want the product shipped to their address or if they’d rather head over to a local Apple retail store and pick it up themselves. Through the app, users will also be able to make Genius Bar appointments as well as locate nearest Apple Stores to attend workshops or events. Apple Store app for iPad is available as a free download from the App Store.

Google Play Newsstand merges Currents, magazines and newspapers on Android today, iOS in 2014

Google Play Newstand combines Currents, magazines and newspapers on Android today, iOS early next year

Google is not particularly great at keeping secrets. Its Nexus devices always leak and peeks at code are constantly revealing features before they’re announced. So, it’s no surprise that, exactly one month after we reported references to a Google Play Newsstand popping up, Mountain View is taking the wraps off the new content hub. Like its Apple counterpart, it will play home (get it?) to both newspaper and magazine subscriptions, and it’ll even pull in articles from sites and blogs you choose to follow (like this one, we hope). And, even though you’ll be able to have your New York Times subscription delivered through Newsstand, you’re not forced to use it. The stand alone Times app will continue to be available directly from your home screen.

Articles viewed through the new Newsstand app will be specifically formatted for your tablet or phone, complete with images, audio or video inline. And they’ll be available offline so you can can catch up on your news, even if you happen to be on one of the few flights left in the US without WiFi. And, if you come across something particularly interesting, but don’t have the time right now for a 4,000 word expose on how Facebook uses your personal data, you can mark it to read later.

Behold! The First Universal Game Controller for the iPhone

Behold! The First Universal Game Controller for the iPhone

Sure, Sony’s PlayStation 4 came out last week. And Microsoft’s own next-generation console launches in a few days. But the biggest gaming announcement for us this month may be a $100 iPhone accessory from Logitech.

Russian internet titan Mail.ru stakes claim in US with email and chat apps, mobile games

We wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve never heard of Mail.ru — after all, it’s huge in Russia, but not in the US. In an effort to carve out a space for itself in America, the company has launched a trio of products under its US-based My.com brand (no, not Me.com), including an Android and iOS email client called myMail. Its clean looks and features are reminiscent of the Dropbox-owned Mailbox app, and it includes real-time notifications and a slide-out menu. myMail takes things further, however, by adding avatars and an auto-night mode that disables pings during times you specify. Next on the list is an IM app named myChat that also offers free voice and video calls à la Viber and Tango.

Both of the aforementioned services are free, but My.com aims to subsidize the costs of running them with revenue from its new mobile gaming portal called myGames. Its roster of games is looking short at the moment, but titles range from Texas Hold ‘Em to combat strategy and farm simulation. Obviously, the company’s facing some very tough competition, and it needs to claw its way up to earn significant name recognition stateside — a feat even its acquisition of ICQ couldn’t help it accomplish.

FiftyThree’s Pencil is a smart, carpenter-style stylus for iOS Paper

FiftyThree, the company behind iOS apps Paper and Book, has created a carpenter-style stylus for use with Paper. Aptly and simply dubbed “Pencil,” the stylus lets you erase with the top end just as you would with a normal pencil. It also lets you blend marks on your iPad with your finger, and it can […]

Twitter for iOS and Android can now filter out the pictures, video and people you hate from search results (updated)

Twitter has just updated its iOS and Android apps with new search filters plus the ability to view all tweets in your results instead of just the top few. Those filters include a new photo search tool that shows images in either a grid or list, one that just displays the tweets of the people you follow and, of course, a video filter for all you Vine and YouTube aficionados out there. Additionally, Twitter is introducing a trending timeline in the Discover tab that shows what’s the hottest topic of the moment along with related tweets. So if you’ve ever wanted to know why everyone’s buzzing about what a fox says, well now you can find out that much easier. Twitter addicts can go ahead and download the app updates at the source links below.

Update: We’ve gone ahead and downloaded the update, and noticed a few additional changes not mentioned in the blog post. First, aside from the typical trending topics, you can also now see trending TV and local event chatter after you’ve scrolled past all the trends. They’re marked with the appropriate symbols (a television and a map pin respectively). It also promises better login verification by letting you take a screenshot of your backup code when you enroll or create a new one.

Also, now whenever you select a new direct message, it’ll populate a list of suggested users so you can easily select the person you DM the most. There are also a few other refinements here and there, like new icons, screen transitions and and apparently an in-app pop-up whenever a post is retweeted or starred. Some of the changes are apparently only visible to a few users, so definitely let us know if you see anything different. In the meantime, we’ve included a few screenshots of the new interface after the break.

MOGA Ace Power Gaming Controller Supports iOS 7

If you use an Apple gadget like the iPhone or iPod Touch that uses the Lighting connector and iOS, a new portable game controller has turned up aimed specifically at you. The controller comes from MOGA and is called the Ace Power. The controller is the first designed specifically to work with iOS 7′s controller APIs according to the manufacturer.

Like most of the gaming controllers designed for iPhones and iPod Touch devices, the Ace Power expands and the iPhone slips into the middle of the controller. The controller collapses down for added portability when not in use. It also has an 1800 mAh internal battery allowing it to keep your iPhone or iPod Touch juiced up while you play your favorite games.

The Ace Power has dual analog sticks, dual shoulder buttons, a D-pad, and four action buttons. It’s also got easily accessible charging and headphone jacks while your device is docked.

One caveat to all add-on controllers is that games have to be designed with support for the controller in mind. That means the success of the controller is likely to revolve around how many developers add support for it to their games. However, since this controller will use iOS7′s native controller APIs it’s likely that many games will support it down the road.

The device can be pre-ordered for $100(USD) directly from the manufacturer and via the Apple Store soon. For now, you can sign up to be notified when they’re available.
