iOS 7 Causes 4 Year Old Boy To Cry Uncontrollably

Apple’s iOS 7 was release just the other day, prior to the official release of both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. The highly-anticipated launch of Apple’s newest and most ambitious iOS update to date has been met with a lot of criticism, but we don’t think anyone hates it more than 4-year-old Jack Colling from Kansas. Google Translate On iOS Refreshed

Google Translate On iOS RefreshedThere is nothing quite like a changed look to kickstart things on a different footing. After all, we do see design changes happen from time to time. Take Apple’s iOS operating system for instance – the iOS 7 redesign has certainly riled some quarters, while earning rave reviews from others. As for Google, they themselves have changed their Google logo on the search page for a flatter look, and here we are with word that the Internet search giant has also introduced a fresh look for Google Translate on iOS, and there is more than meets the eye than just a cosmetic change, as Google has also decided to throw in additional languages and new features.

Google Translate intends to help break down the language barrier whenever you travel to a place where the local lingo is something that you cannot understand. Having said that, Google Translate app for iOS 7 has been updated and optimized, where you will be able to enjoy a fresh new look in addition to handwriting support as well as more than 70 languages to make it happen. Imagine when you are in Japan, and need to ask a question. Just use text-input to type in your question, where it will then translate from English to Japanese in a jiffy, with your translation being spoken back in Japanese. [Press Release]

You Don’t Know Jack gets reinvented for iOS with group gaming sessions in mind (video)

If you’re of a certain age, you think of You Don’t Know Jack as a relic from the ’90s. But to its credit, the trivia game has made an impressively smooth transition to the twenty-first century: Jackbox Games already has apps for iOS, Android, Facebook and even OUYA. Until now, though, gameplay’s been about as asynchronous as a game of Words With Friends: you took your turn and waited for your friend (wherever they were) to take theirs. Today, the company launched You Don’t Know Jack Party, an iOS version of the game that’s specifically meant to be played by a bunch of people hanging out in the same place. Using AirPlay, you guys can stream it to an Apple TV and use your device as a remote, or you can play on an iPhone / iPad and use your phones as controllers instead.

The nice thing, obviously, is that multiple devices are supported (up to four players, to be precise). Also, your friends with Android phones can still use their handsets as controllers, so they won’t be left calling out answers on the sidelines. In addition, Jackbox says it would like to port the game over to other platforms, including Android and maybe even Chromecast. For now, though, it’s an iOS-only affair. The app itself is free, and you get one gratis episode, but after that you’re looking at regular in-app purchases ($2.99 for five episodes or $9.99 for a pack of 30). Luckily for you, our demo video below don’t cost a thing.

BBM for iOS and Android Hands-On: The Best Blackberry Thing In Years?

Even as Blackberry has fallen from grace over the last few years, its proprietary messaging service BBM has remained a solid, well-designed product. A few months back, the company announced plans to bring the product to iOS and Android. We were excited then, and after spending a few minutes with the final build of both apps, we’re thinking this could be Blackberry’s foothold into a new future.

Apple Can’t Rely On Design Forever

Apple’s executives are out in full force this week, talking about their company’s unique ability to deliver designs that people love. With Jonathan Ive at the design helm, Apple believes that it can continue to be the most successful device maker in the world simply because its “eye” is better than that from other users. […]

iOS 7 bug enables user to bypass lockscreen, send emails and status updates (update: Apple response)

iOS 7 bug enables user to bypass lockscreen, send emails and status updates

The moment operating systems become available to the public is also the moment millions of people have the opportunity to hunt around and find bugs. And, it appears that at least one rather critical bug has already been discovered in iOS 7. A keen-eyed user found a way to bypass the passcode-protected lockscreen and gain access to the device’s photos app, giving him the ability to hijack the email or social network account associated with that device. Essentially, you access the alarm clock through Control Center, make your way into the multitasking menu and head into the camera app from there. We’ve embedded the video evidence below, just in case you’re interested in trying it out for yourself; we tested it out using an iPhone 5s running iOS 7.0.1, and were able to duplicate the user’s claims.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen an iOS bug capable of bypassing your lockscreen and compromising the security of your device, and Apple typically squashes those bugs with patches; the last one took a month, however, so we’d like to see an update to iOS 7.0.2 a bit sooner than that. While you wait, the easiest way to avoid this concern is to disable the ability to access Control Center from the lockscreen (this can be found in the settings).

    [Thanks, @vbarraquito!]

Update: Apple tells AllThingsD that it’s aware of the bug, and that it’s working on a fix.
