There are many ways to get ahead in the online content game, and one of them is to make sure your services play nice with competitor hardware. To that end, an update to the Amazon Instant Video app for iOS that dropped today means you can now stream to Apple TVs via AirPlay for the first time. In addition, version 2.1 integrates reviews and various info from IMDb, as well as giving you more ways to find things to watch. Concurrent downloads are now supported, and the changelog also boasts improvements to the UI and “offline experience.” All in all, it looks like a pretty significant update, so go ahead and hit up the source link to try it out.
With iOS 7 due to land tomorrow, Apple seems to have decided to look after users with ageing hardware, too. It now offers a ‘last compatible version’ of iOS apps if you attempt to download an app not supported by your current firmware.

Need something to pass the time tonight while waiting for Grand Theft Auto 5? Developer Rockstar Games has you covered with a pair of free companion apps for its latest crime sim. The iFruit mobile app features two distinct portions with direct ties to your virtual criminal career, allowing you to customize your ride and train protagonist Franklin’s rottweiler. Los Santos Customs lets you get crazy under the hood and in the body shop, tinkering with your ride until it’s just right for either GTA5 or GTA: Online. Treat Franklin’s dog Chop well enough in the pet trainer Chop the Dog, and he’ll find hidden in-game loot for you. The iFruit app is iOS-only for now, but flavors for Android, Windows Phone and even PlayStation Vita are en route.
There’s also an e-version of the game’s manual, because Rockstar apparently couldn’t squeeze the full 100 page-plus tome into print for the retail box. What’s more, it features an interactive map, and is available now on the App Store and as a desktop app — an Android version is “coming soon.” Midnight doesn’t seem so far away now, does it?

Uber’s latest update tackles that age old question: are we there yet? The company’s offering up an ETA feature that’ll let you share your estimated arrival time with friends and family via text message. Enable the feature in the app, enter your destination and once your driver starts his or her trip, you can text your real-time ETA along with map link to concerned parties. About three years ago, I talked about Table Connect, a 58″ touchscreen display that mirrors the screen of an iPhone. Or not. It turns out that the display we saw in the video wasn’t even a prototype; the “demo video” we saw was made using special effects. But now the same people behind that viral video claim they can make a real device.
Now called TableConnect – the lack of a space tells you they’re serious this time – is more or less the same idea, except now the final product will supposedly work with both iOS and Android devices. As with the fake product, you’ll be able to navigate and control your mobile device from the screen itself. The table can even be propped in an upright position to mimic the portrait mode of mobile devices.
TableConnect is expected to have an edge-to-edge 1080p LED touchscreen and come in two sizes: 60″ and 32″. It will also have several “Smart Areas” – i.e. home buttons on every corner and orientation buttons on the edges.
TableConnect will also supposedly support Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and HDMI connectivity, although this part is confusing because the prototype shown in the video below connects to an iPhone 4 using a 30-pin cable. TableConnect will also require a jailbroken iOS device, although the final product will supposedly come with a “pre-configured” iPhone or iPad. There’s currently no word on exactly which Android devices it will work with.
TableConnect is currently asking for money on Indiegogo to help with the development of the final product. Unlike most fundraising projects you cannot get a TableConnect as a reward, but even if they did offer one, most of us won’t be able to afford it anyway. The projected final cost for the 60″ version is a jaw-dropping €25,000 (~$33,000 USD) while the 32″ version will cost €15,000 (~$20,000 USD). There goes my dream of playing epic sessions of Spaceteam.
