Blackberry Messenger For Android And iOS Launching This September 18th?

Blackberry Messenger For Android And iOS Launching This September 18th?It was not too long ago when we brought you word that folks in Malaysia received an invite for an event that will be happening this coming September 18th, with speculation being traded around that this particular event could signal the introduction of the oft leaked BlackBerry Z30. Well, it seems that such an event is not going to happen in that part of the world alone, as BlackBerry did send out other invites for events on the same day in other countries, France and India included.

Who knows? This has led to speculations that point towards a highly anticipated BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) release for both Android and iOS platforms later this September 18th. After all, there were previous rumors that pointed out how a version of BBM will arrive at the corresponding App Stores by the end of this month. So, which do you think it is? Will it be a spanking new piece of hardware that will finally be announced later this September 18th, or will we see both iOS and Android mobile operating systems jump aboard the BBM bandwagon at long last? It might be difficult to see BlackBerry’s hardware business grow even if the Z30 does well, so perhaps they might want to pay more attention to software instead.

Barclays Pingit now lets UK shoppers pay for web purchases using their smartphone

    DNP

Barclays Pingit is a neat multi-platform app for paying the odd bill or shooting over your share of Friday’s curry to a friend, regardless of which bank you use. Today, Barclays announced new ways businesses can use the payment platform: a “Pay with Barclays Pingit” button can now be added to websites and apps, which should shorten the time between impulse and transaction — anyone that regularly uses PayPal for online purchases will get the general idea. Also, if an advertisement should take someone’s fancy, the “buy it” feature allows that person to scan a QR code, check out product info, and complete the purchase then and there. It’s up to retailers to add these new options, of course, so don’t expect to find them everywhere from today. QR codes just won’t die, will they?

iOS 7 Siri gets serious: out of Beta at last

As of the 18th of September, iOS 7 will be out in the wild, and with it the final (or first, however you like to see it) full version of Siri. Up until now Siri has been labeled with a “Beta” tag by Apple for all of the devices that’ve used it – iPhone 4S, […]

iPhone 5c begins to sell out, 5s online orders announced

Today pre-orders began for Apple’s iPhone 5c, the phone that’s set to replace the iPhone 5 in the company’s stock while the iPhone 5s takes the hero spot, and they’ve already begun to sell out pre-orders. Though it is only one model and one color for now, it would appear that this smartphone is set […]

Chrome for iOS learns two-step questions

Earlier this year Google enhanced the voice recognition search system embedded in the Chrome web browser for desktop machines so that it’d understand pronouns – then this ability came to Android, and now it heads to iOS. What this means for this week’s update of Chrome (version 29, that is), is that you’ll be able […]

Frontback For iOS Takes Pictures Using Your Front, Rear Cameras

Frontback For iOS Takes Pictures Using Your Front, Rear Cameras

When Samsung announced its Galaxy S4 earlier this year, it introduced a large number of features that not only helped expand what its users can do with the device through proprietary apps, but they also made some big changes to its camera software. One feature Samsung implemented into its camera software is the ability to take a photo using both the front-facing and rear-facing cameras on its Galaxy S4. We’re sure a number of iOS users are rather envious of this feature being available on the Galaxy S4, but a new iOS app gives you this exact feature, which will hopefully lead to be just a little less envious. Atari Founder Believes iOS And Android Will Win The Mobile Games War

Atari Founder Believes iOS And Android Will Win The Mobile Games WarWhile Nintendo might have been the household name back in the day when it came to handheld gaming and console gaming, the company has not exactly been enjoying much success as of late, with Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox efforts overtaking them in terms of sales as well as the number of big titles. Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo has also refused to make the switch to the mobile market, believing that console game is still the way to go, but is it? Speaking to the BBC, Atari’s founder Nolan Bushnell seems pretty convinced that iOS and Android are expected to be more relevant than Nintendo’s handheld efforts in the future. (more…)

Hack your ride with Motobrain, the smartphone controllable fuseblock (video)

Hack your ride with Motobrain, the smartphone controllable fuseblock video

Tweaking your car’s electrical system can be downright scary, but one Kickstarter project hopes to make it a little easier. With Motobrain, you can control up to eight accessory circuits on your vehicle of choice (boat, car or motorcycle, basically anything with an engine) with a compact box and a Bluetooth 4.0 smart device. The power distribution unit’s app displays real-time feedback and information for all the accessories it’s controlling, and you can even adjust how much current each one gets. The refreshingly simple pitch page mentions GPS systems, heated clothing and dimmable LED auxiliary lights as controllable gizmos, but Motobrain could be killer for car audio, too. Some of these features may be redundant for owners of newer vehicles, but the possibilities for the automodding community are staggering. The discounted backer tier is already sold out, but as of this writing there are still 156 units left at the $260 pledge level. Now, where’s our soldering gun?

Chrome 29 for iOS brings voice search with pronouns

Chrome for iOS with voice search

Google loves to throw small-yet-sensible interface updates into many Chrome releases, and the new Chrome 29 for iOS represents a textbook example. The browser’s voice search now supports contextual pronouns like “her” or “them;” ask a question and you can run a follow-up search without mentioning the subject by name. The update also lets you quickly jump back to search results if you visit the wrong result, and it’s now easier to view bandwidth savings if you have access to the experimental data compression feature. Should you like the smattering of new features, you can grab Chrome 29 now through the App Store.

iPhone 5 discontinued: where did they all go?

Earlier this week Apple held an event in which they changed their model for releasing iPhones, replacing the until-recently standard hero device iPhone 5 instead of just bumping it down a notch in the pricing structure. In comes the iPhone 5s as the hero, and the iPhone 5c to take the second tier. But here’s […]
