iOS Tweak Brings Facebook Chat Heads Onto The iPhone

iOS Tweak Brings Facebook Chat Heads Onto The iPhoneSay what you will of Facebook Home but what it has brought to Android devices is a pretty convenient chat feature called Chat Heads. For those who use Facebook, whether it be on iOS or Android, you guys have probably encountered Chat Heads which are basically icons featuring your friend’s photo that lets you chat with them.

On Android this is pretty convenient as the Chat Heads appear on the home screen, thus letting you chat with friends without having to open the Facebook or Messenger app. Unfortunately for iOS, Chat Heads is limited to the Facebook app, but if you’re running a jailbroken iOS device, perhaps Message Box might be a tweak worth checking out. Facebook Messenger iOS Update Brings Groups, Forwarding And More

Facebook Messenger iOS Update Brings Groups, Forwarding And More

Facebook Messenger is the social network’s standalone app for people who prefer to chat with their friends and family through Facebook. While its possible to chat through the main Facebook app as well, Messenger aims to offer a much better experience. The Facebook Messenger for iOS has now been updated, and it comes with a couple of new features.

Users can now create chat groups within the app. They can essentially put together people that they want to message in a single thread and even assign them a name, such as “Family” or “Colleagues.” This feature keeps often contacted people all in one place, which makes it easier for the user to chat with them. Group photos can also be set, just to add a bit of color to the whole arrangement.

The app also includes a forwarding feature now. This allows users to send conversations or images to their Facebook contacts, even if those contacts weren’t a part of the original message thread. To forward, all users need to do is a simple tap, and its done. Other improvements have also been made to make the app faster and more reliable.

Facebook Messenger for iOS is available as a free download from the App Store.

Apple Promises More Diverse Emojis To Come

Apple Promises More Diverse Emojis To ComeWhen it comes to emoticons, we don’t really give it much thought. After all they’re just meant to be cute representations of emotions and sometimes they’re just there to add a little bit of flavor when texting someone. However it seems that recently Apple has been facing pressure to add cultural diversity in its Emoji.

Back in 2012, Apple updated Emoji to add same-sex couples which basically shows where the Cupertino company stands when it comes to homosexuality. This was a step in the right direction but apparently some thought that the next step would be to add more cultural diversity, where as it stands most of the characters represented appear to be caucasian. Fix Autocorrect’s Bad Habits by Resetting Your iPhone Dictionary

You know how it’s supposed to work: As you type, your iPhone or iPad keyboard silently learns words in the background for future autocorrect suggestions. But sometimes that “learning” can backfire — especially if you inadvertently teach the system words and phrases you don’t really want autocorrected. Luckily, when your iOS keyboard gets a chronic case of letter-rot, there’s an easy way to undo all those bad habits.

If adding new shortcuts and contacts still hasn’t fixed your autocorrect woes, you likely need a fresh start. iOS 7 makes this easy.

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap the “Reset Keyboard Dictionary” option. If you have a password set, your device will prompt you to enter it and then warn you that it’s about to “delete all custom words you have typed on the keyboard.” Say good riddance, and hit “Reset Dictionary.”

Bingo. No more typos or embarrassing autocorrects when using keyboard — at least for the next few months.

Loopd, Hyper-Local Communication and Social CRM iPhone App

Using a proprietary version of multi-peer Bluetooth, the Loopd iOs application allows users to search and connect with contacts within a few feet without using a GPS. As the example described in the video (see above), you can see who you know at a party and start a chat session on the spot, to find in which room your contact is. This could be very useful during large tech conferences, such as CES or MWC where unplanned meetings based on “real-time proximity” would be more efficient than scheduling meetings far away apart.

Loopd is launching the IOS app today and plans to unveil its wearable tech component in June.  From my email conversation with CEO Brian Friedman, I learned that the upcoming loopd bracelet will use gesture to let people exchange their contact info with a simple handshake. I cannot wait to see and try this cool gadget!
