Google updates Drive for iOS with new card UI, easier way to browse files

Google updates Drive for iOS with new card UI, easier way to browse files

You know how they say that when it rains, it pours? Well, shortly after unveiling a new set of native ware for Chrome, Google’s also taken the time to announce an update to its Drive app on iOS. Most notable is the introduction of the card-style user interface, something we saw make its way to the Android version of Google Drive earlier this year. There’s now a better way to browse and preview files as well, plus an easier approach to how links get copied within the app — essentially, this means users will see a new option that automatically copies file links to the clipboard. The update doesn’t appear to be live everywhere just yet, but keep an eye on the App Store as it should be arriving very soon.

Google Drive iOS App Updated With Completely New Look

Google Drive iOS App Updated With Completely New Look

The Google Drive app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has finally received a much needed user interface update. It is said in the official blog post that one of the features most users wanted on Google Drive for iOS was the ability to “effortlessly” browse and preview files, just like on the Android app. The update has been made keeping that in mind, it has the same card-style thumbnail layout as its Android counterpart. A number of other upgrades have also been made which improve the user experience of Google Drive app for iOS devices.

With just one tap, users can jump between the new thumbnail view and conventional list view. Instead of being mixed together, files and folders are now grouped more “intuitively.” The update also makes it easier to copy the link for a Drive file, a link is needed if one wants to share a file through email or text. Going to the details pane and tapping on “Get link” will automatically copy the file’s link to the clipboard. Files can also be shared with a friend or moved to one of the Drive folders from the details pane. Last but not the least, search has been brought to the forefront of Google Drive for iOS to make it easier for users to find what they’re looking for. The updated app is live now and available for download via iTunes App Store.

Philips’ M1X-DJ portable DJ soundsystem hits IFA, we go eyes-on (video)

Philips' M1XDJ portable DJ soundsystem hits IFA, we go eyeson video

The pictures may not quite drive the point home, so let us just say that this thing is a beast. And frankly the idea carrying it around using the add-on strip is giving us lower-back pain just thinking of it. But heck, it probably weighs a good deal less that carrying around cart after cart of vinyl — not to mention a couple of turntables and a whole PA system (not to mention all of those glow sticks). Philips’ M1X-DJ is a cool take on the idea of the computer DJ. It’s essentially a massive dock that connects to your iPad / iPhone via the lightning connector. On top, you’ll find two DJ platters and a mixer.

As we noted before, the M1X-DJ is hitting Europe in November, priced at €399. Click on through to the other side to check out a video of the wheels of plastic in action.%Gallery-slideshow81799%

PayPal app becomes a deal offering mobile wallet payment platform

PayPal app becomes a deal offering mobile wallet payment platform

PayPal’s status as the mobile payment method of choice for the masses is beset upon all sides by many would-be usurpers. What’s the company doing to stay on top? Beefing up the feature set of its apps for iOS and Android in a big way today — adding a full-on mobile wallet, automatically-applied deals and discounts and some new ways to order stuff and pay for it.

The wallet feature lets people pay with a PayPal account, a credit or debit card, bank account or a line of Bill Me Later credit that can be applied for within the app. Like Google Wallet, the new PayPal app incorporates deals and discounts that are then automatically applied when you pay. Speaking of which, you can still send money the old-fashioned PayPal way, but the new app also integrates ordering, couponing and paying within PayPal’s merchant network. We got to see the new app in action, so join us after the break for more.%Gallery-slideshow79631%

Call Of Duty: Strike Team Released On iOS For $6.99

Activision hasn’t released many Call of Duty games onto mobile platforms, although we thoroughly enjoyed the hell out of Call of Duty: Zombies when it released. As a result, mobile gamers have gone through quite the Call of Duty dry spell, but Activision is fixing that today as they’ve just released a new game on iOS. (more…)

Run-n-Read keeps e-book text steady while you’re on the treadmill (video)

RunnRead keeps ebook text steady while you're on the treadmill video

Many people read while they’re using exercise machines, but we don’t envy them; it’s not easy to concentrate on a novel when running. Weartrons may help those athletic readers maintain their focus with its upcoming Run-n-Read peripheral. The clip-on device detects its wearer’s movements and compensates for them on a host Android or iOS device, keeping e-book text steady in the midst of a treadmill run. Owners can also tap the Run-n-Read to turn pages, and the gadget doubles as a pedometer in between reading sessions. Weartrons is starting a crowdfunding campaign for the Run-n-Read today, and is asking gym rats to pledge a nominal $55 to get a device of their own. If all goes smoothly, the company should deliver its first units no later than January.

Philips announces iOS-friendly M1X-DJ system, puts decks on your dock

Philips announces iOSfriendly M1XDJ system, puts decks on your dock

Philips, more known for its TVs and home appliances isn’t entirely new to the DJ game, but it’s certainly not the first brand that trips off the tongue when talking all things spin. Still, it’s IFA, and Philips is having a product releasing spree, which includes a renewed venture into this space with the M1X-DJ system. Essentially, the M1X-Dj is an iPad and iPhone dock (via lightning connection) with DJ platters and a mini mixer built-in. It’s compatible with Algoriddim’s ubiquitous Djay app, and supports Bluetooth streaming also. The speakers pumps out your mixes at 80 watts, and can run on regular D-size batteries should you want to take the fun outside. There appears to be a shoulder strap, too, perhaps making this the accordion for the iOS generation? We’ll find out in November when it comes out, costing 399 euros.
