Path adds new privacy features and Premium subscription in 3.2 update, announces Deutsche Telekom partnership

Path 32 adds Private Sharing and Inner Circle, introduces Premium subscriptions

One of the benefits of Path when compared to social networks like Facebook and Twitter is that it’s more private than public. It’s only accessible via mobile app and the service limits you to 150 friends to encourage you to add just the people you know. Yet, it’s suffered a bit of privacy-related backlash due to the occasional hiccup and a private messaging feature that wasn’t so private. However, the latest 3.2 version of Path might rectify that perception — it’s added two features called Private Sharing and Inner Circle that lets users have more control over who sees their content. We’ll detail those along with a new Path Premium subscription model and a partnership with Deutsche Telekom after the break.%Gallery-slideshow79639%

Google's iOS Authenticator Update Nuked User Data Before Being Pulled

Google’s updated Authenticator app for iPhone rolled out last night, bringing new retina graphics for iPhone 5 users. Unfortunately, it also brought a nasty little glitch that wiped out user account info, leading Google to pull it from the App Store.

Apple schedules special Chinese launch event on Sept 11

Apple is truly making history on its upcoming launch event. Not only is there talk of colorful iPhones, a huge move away from its traditional toned-down look, but now it seems that the company has scheduled a press event in China, the first ever standalone event that Apple has ever organized for the Chinese media. Google Authenticator for iOS updated, requires a fresh setup afterwards

Google Authenticator for iOS hits v20, but you'll need to set it up again after updating

Two factor authentication is becoming an increasingly common part of keeping one’s accounts secure online, and Google has just updated its Authenticator app for iOS. Outwardly, version 2.0 brings a new look that matches the style recently seen in other Google apps like Google+, YouTube and Gmail. The app is also retina display and iPhone 5 ready now, however there’s still no native support for the iPad. It still functions the same way, cranking out a login code for users to access their accounts on demand, however there’s one quirk you’ll want to be aware of before pressing the update button. As Steve Streza points out on Twitter (and we experienced ourselves), the new version clears your account details and will need to be paired again before it works. It shouldn’t be too much of a hassle (you did tie your account to a good backup phone number, right?) to get things set up again, but since it’s not mentioned in the changelog consider this a friendly heads-up.

Update: Just so we’re all caught up, Google is aware of the issue and working on a fix. Just as important, it’s pulled the update from the App Store while it works out the kinks to ensure no one else loses their precious Authenticator tokens… even if just temporarily.

Apple iPhone September 10th event confirmed as invites land

Apple has confirmed it will hold an event on September 10th, sending out invites to press, with the iPhone 5S expected to take center stage alongside a cheaper iPhone and iOS 7. Speculation about the September 10th show has been high for some weeks now, with some rumors pegging not only new phones but a […]

Apple confirms September 10th iPhone event, and we’ll be there live!

Apple confirms September 10th iPhone event, and we'll be there live!

The next iPhone will be (presumably) unveiled on September 10th, as hinted at on the Apple-delivered invite that you see above. When the curtains pull back, it’ll be nearly a year to the day since the iPhone 5 was ushered into reality, and it’ll no doubt be a monumentally important day for the company. Particularly compared to the barrage of products Apple introduced in 2012 — iPad mini, iPhone 5, the MacBook Pro with Retina display, enhanced MacBook Air / iMac / Mac mini lines, a redesigned iPod nano, a revised iPad / iPod touch / Apple TV, ad OS X Mountain Lion — 2013 has been eerily quiet. Outside of a tweaked iPhone 5 for T-Mobile’s network, a Haswell-infused MacBook Air and a tease of the next-generation Mac Pro, we’ve been left with little more than hopes for newly-inspired versions of iOS and OS X.

That changes on the 10th of September, as at the very least, we’re expecting a next-gen iPhone to hit the stage. We’ll also be holding out hope for an oh-so-colorful lower-end iPhone 5C for emerging markets — markets where Android and even Windows Phone are the platforms of choice for communities making the move into the smartphone era. We wouldn’t put it past Apple to also revise its iPad line while it’s at it, and naturally, iOS 7 should be just about primed for release to the masses. As you’d expect, we’ll be on hand in Cupertino in order to liveblog every second of the action, and we’d invite you to cast your best guesses on what’s to come in comments below.

Plants Vs Zombies 2 Achieves 25 Million Download Milestone

Plants Vs Zombies 2 Achieves 25 Million Download MilestonePopCap Games must certainly be revelling in the success of Plants vs Zombies 2, where this particular title on the iOS platform has already hit the 25 million download mark, just nearly a fortnight after reportedly achieving the 16 million download mark. Still, despite this frightening figure, there does not seem as though there will be an Android version of the title in sight. It would be interesting to see just how much higher the 25 million mark could jump to should Plants vs Zombies 2 be made available on the top mobile OS in the world, right?

We were teased with a Crop Circles video yesterday, and that might bode a new expansion for the title on the iOS platform. Perhaps by the time Crop Circles arrives, those of us who are rocking to the Android platform might eventually end up with a freshly minted copy of Plants vz Zombies 2? One can wish, can they not? In fact, the impressive 25 million download mark within half a month is already more downloads compared to the total that the original received on iOS. If you happen to own an iOS device, how has your experience been with Plants vs Zombies 2 so far, or you haven’t yet downloaded it? [Press Release]

BBM for Android will look like this: beta tester gives you the tour (video)

BBM for Android Beta tester give you the tour video

BlackBerry Messenger’s trip to iOS and Android is taking longer than we hoped, but when walkthrough videos are starting to leak out, it’s a good sign that you’re on the final stretch. Courtesy of JT and BlackBerryOS, we’ve now got an early peek of what it’ll look like when the app eventually lands. Combining BBM’s rigorous chat app with our favorite Android keyboards sounds mighty tempting and it appears the app follows the bezel-swiping navigation of the BlackBerry 10 OS to get to your chat threads and groups. The video walkthrough (included after the break) also touches on the ability to transfer contacts through NFC, which is good sign that the messaging app will make the most of these the new mobile OSes.

Update: Within minutes of posting, the video’s gone private. At least we’ll have the memories, right? We’re back!
