If we didn’t know any better, we’d say the folks at Rovio are aiming to release an Angry Birds Star Wars game that goes not only to the worlds presented in the prequels, but to some favorites from Return of the Jedi as well. What we’re seeing this afternoon is a series of new teaser […]
Twitter brings a conversation focused update to the iPhone, Android and web
Posted in: Today's ChiliTwitter has announced a conversation related update today. This one is being released for the Twitter.com website as well as the iPhone and Android apps. The short version here is that conversations should now be easier to follow. And as a side effect, easier to join in on should you have something to say on […]
Twitter has always been a great place to discuss hard-hitting news (like Miley Cyrus’ puzzling evolution), but following conversations can feel a bit like a mining expedition. The company has taken note, and a new update to the website, iOS and Android apps — available today — makes engaging in conversations on Twitter a much more intuitive process. Now, the first tweet in a chain will show up on your timeline above the replies, allowing you to read the conversation in chronological order. Up to two subsequent related tweets will be connected to the first by a vertical blue line; for lengthy conversations, you can continue reading with a simple tap. To learn more, check out Twitter’s video after the break.

With the likes of Flipboard, Google Currents, Pulse and other magazine-style newsreaders competing for your attention, the folks at Inq Mobile are aiming to delight audiences by delivering personalized content from unexpected sources. As creators of one of the first Facebook phones, they’re now leveraging their social roots with an app known as Material, which attempts to learn your interests by examining your Facebook and Twitter activity. You can still manually add content, but Material strives to eliminate the configuration hassles you’ll find elsewhere. Instead, its developers are reckoning that you’ll appreciate a greater variety of news sources, and it can also adapt to your preferences over time by examining the type of stories you read. In all, Material serves up two editions of content daily, which includes blog entries, videos, music, photos and news articles. It’s now available for free on iOS, and joined by an updated release of the Android app. If you’ve yet to check out Material, it could be worth installing just to see just what it thinks you like.

BBC iPlayer for iOS updated with AirPlay streaming for downloads, simpler searching
Posted in: Today's ChiliBBC iPlayer for iOS just got a big update that makes it easy to keep watching — even in less than ideal conditions. The app now supports AirPlay streaming for downloaded shows, letting users watch on the big screen when there’s no internet connection. Searching is also much improved; iPlayer now groups results by series, and iPad users get a dedicated search section. It’s easier to start watching recommended shows, too. The update is sadly limited to the UK version of iPlayer, but those fortunate Brits can grab the new app through the source link.

There’s no shortage of mobile concierge services, but even the wealthy may balk at paying steep fees (or buying exotic phones) solely for entertainment advice. Thankfully, Lime & Tonic has just brought its more accessible luxury recommendation engine to the iPhone. The mobile app automatically suggests up to two premium (and sometimes exclusive) activities per day based on far more refined criteria than a typical point-of-interest app. It can recommend only those posh restaurants that cook your steak rare, for example. More importantly, it’s relatively cheap to try — signing up is free, and discounts are common. Lime & Tonic’s service is currently limited to Amsterdam, Dubai, London, Melbourne, Prague, Rio de Janeiro and Sydney, although geography is likely no obstacle to the company’s well-to-do customers. Besides, it could be the perfect showcase app for that future gold iPhone.

Gmail For iOS Updated
Posted in: Today's ChiliApps need to get updated from time to time in order to keep up with the fast paced society that users live in. In fact, if a particular app does not get its fair share of updates, you can be sure that it will lose out on its market share – fast! Google has been pretty consistent in the past to deliver app updates across various mobile platforms, and this time around, it would be the native Gmail for iOS app that has been given a bump up to version 2.4.
Needless to say, Gmail for iOS 2.4 will come with a slew of new features to make life easier, including what they have dubbed “enhanced email attachments” that will appear to translate into larger thumbnails as well as full screen previews. Not only that, users of the updated app ought to be able to lock down an improved level of integration with another two Google apps, namely Google Drive and Google+. If you happen to have links to either one of those online services, it will send you directly to the appropriate app instead of the web, which is a smarter way of managing things. Of course, you can also choose to disable this particular setting through the in-app options just in case you are not too comfortable with such a deep level of integration.
Gmail For iOS Updated original content from Ubergizmo.
The Auto Awesome enhancements in Google+ are great for livening up drab pics and bursts of photos with animations, but you’ve got to dig through your albums to discover if the features were even triggered. That’s no longer an issue in the wake of an update: Google+ now sends notifications whenever it creates Auto Awesome animations, filmstrips and panoramas. The alerts are rolling out today on Android, iOS and the web, so you won’t be left wondering about your photo collection again.
