On August 14, the Google+ app for Android updated to version 4.1, bringing with it a variety of new features and the elimination of Messenger. Now the same update has rolled out for the iOS app after a couple day delay, this particular one taking Apple users to version 4.5 and likewise doing away with […]
A mere couple of days after the latest version of Google+ arrived for Android, iOS users are finally getting a taste of it courtesy of today’s version 4.5 release. The latest update brings a number of notable features, one of which is integration with Google Drive, which lets G+ fans view, edit and share images via the cloud service. Like the Android version of the app, Hangouts has replaced the Messenger function for messaging and calls, and you can now start a Hangout with someone directly from the person’s profile page. Domain-related features for Apps for Business users are also supported. Those itching to find out what else is new can go ahead and download it from the App Store link below.

In the array of photos of the iPhone 5S that’ve we’ve seen over the past few weeks, one set of “Champagne” or otherwise gold-colored parts have appeared: today we can make that two. What’s appearing to be a set of gold iPhone 5S parts have arrived at Mac Boutique where they’ve suggested the device to […]
It’s time for the folks that brought you the powerhouse real-car racing game Project Gotham to make 2K Drive to the mobile universe. This title was announced this week by the team at 2K Games, responsible for the sports lineup of titles acting as subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive, responsible also for top-tier first-person action games […]
Tired of Apple offering iPhones solely in black or white? If photos obtained by MacBoutic are accurate, you’ll get some variety soon… and some bling, for that matter. The repair shop’s images reportedly show an iPhone 5S shell in a simulated gold color, supporting recent spec predictions from KGI analyst (and frequent AppleInsider tipster) Ming-Chi Kuo. While it’s difficult to verify the snapshots when MacBoutic has erased all logos, this doesn’t look like an aftermarket project; the hue extends to normally inaccessible parts of the phone, for example. As a result, we won’t be surprised if we see a flashy gold iPhone at Apple’s rumored September 10th event.

This week a fellow by the name of Skyline O (translated) has spoken up on the possibility of Apple’s next-generation iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C (plastic) having their specifications leaked early. In Chinese forum WeiPhone, Skyline not only lies out the map on how and where early mock-up models for Apple‘s smartphones were turned into […]
Engadget’s iPhone app has been completely rebuilt, and it’s available to download now!
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe’ve heard you, and we agree — our iPhone app has needed a re-envisioning, and we’re thrilled to announce that the fruits of a lot of behind-the-scenes labor can now be seen in the App Store. Engadget’s iPhone app has been completely rebuilt from the ground-up, with an all-new design taking center stage. Behind the new visuals, you’ll find plenty of new functionality. Here’s a quick breakdown on what’s new and what has changed:
- Left and right slide-in rails have replaced the five buttons along the bottom, providing a cleaner view and the ability to slot new tools into those bars
- The left rail provides scrollable, adjustable navigation, while the right rail houses media such as podcasts and videos
- Within an article, you’ll find one-tap access to comments and sharing options right at the top
- Within the Share icon, you’ll also be able to save an article to Instapaper, Evernote, Pocket or into the app’s Read Later section
- Added the ability to save all of the day’s stories for offline reading with a single tap.
- Font size adjustment slider
- One-tap access to send Engadget editors a news tip, and to send feedback to our developers
- Support for Events (including Expand!) and recurring Buyer’s Guides
Our devs are also working hard right now to implement additional features (yes, beyond just tweaks and fixes) later this year. As for our loyal readers that rely on Android and Windows Phone, be assured that we’re overhauling those builds as well in order to elevate our entire stable to a new standard. Our hope is to have those platforms served with a redesigned app before the year’s end. Give it a download right here, and be sure to submit any issues to our support staff within the app itself (pull up the right rail -> Send Feedback). We’ll be poring over each submission in a bid to make things even better as we go. Thanks for reading, and enjoy! %Gallery-slideshow61513%

There are alarm clocks that wake you gently, and there are others that torture you to get you out of bed. The Carrot Alarm iOS app on the other hand will make you wake up so you can hang out with a GLaDOS clone. How GLaDOS-y is Carrot? She says she kills a kitten everytime you hit the snooze button. I’m not kidding. I hope she is.
Carrot’s clock is easy to use. It’s the alarm part that makes her special. And by special I mean evil. After greeting you with her cold voice, she’ll make you play a minigame before she turns the alarm off. But she has a good side too. As you use Carrot, you earn points that unlock additional sound bites and music.
Carrot is lurking at the iTunes App Store. Pay $0.99 (USD) to let her invade your life.

It looks like SonyAlphaRumors has managed to get its hands on what it believes to be a few leaked pages of the manual for Sony’s rumored all-in-one lens cameras
The Syfy for iPhone app is relaunching as SyFy Now, while the old Syfy app for iPad is reborn as Syfy Sync, dedicated solely to the network’s second screen ambitions. Why the changes? Now is all about TV Everywhere with streaming of full episodes of Syfy’s original series the day after they air and bookmarks that sync across devices with iCloud. This app can’t put Alphas back on the air, but it can bring Defiance, Robot Combat League and Being Human to wherever you are, assuming you have a compatible TV provider. At launch, customers with Armstrong, AT&T U-Verse, Cablevision’s Optimum TV service, Charter, Comcast’s Xfinity TV, DISH, Mediacom, Suddenlink, Verizon FiOS, and Wide Open West (WOW) are ready to go, and others are coming soon.
Don’t have authentication? The show clips and behind the scenes video previously featured in the app are still available. Syfy’s app for Android isn’t updated yet (and still isn’t ready for the new Nexus 7) but the press release promises Now will launch there in September — hopefully the network can figure out how to include TV movies like Sharknado 2 in the package by then.
