Apple Reportedly Picks Samsung To Manufacture iPad Mini Display Panels

Apple Reportedly Picks Samsung To Manufacture iPad Mini Display PanelsIt is no secret that Apple and Samsung do not like each other, however both companies are more than aware that they need each other’s business. Samsung has the technology, the experience, and the size to produce the quality and quantity of components Apple needs, which is why as much as they appear to hate each other through legal proceedings, losing Apple as a client and losing Samsung as a supplier could hurt each other’s business.

This is why it is not completely out of the question to think that a recent report suggesting that Samsung could be helping to produce the iPad mini’s displays could be true. This is according to ETNews who claims that Apple could be turning to Samsung to help produce iPad mini displays, an interesting move since Samsung was not involved at all previously. (more…)

Slimo Lightning Charging Patch for iOS Helps You Quit Cables

There are two reasons why I’m not a fan of most wireless chargers for mobile devices: they make it awkward to use your device while it’s charging and they require bulky cases for your mobile device. Slimo easily takes care of my second complaint. The first one? Not so much.

slimo lightning wireless charging patch for iphone ipad ipad mini ipod touch 620x648magnify

Unfortunate name choice aside, Slimo is indeed slimey slim. Instead of a bulky case it takes the form of a conductive patch that’s just 0.014″ thick. The patch delivers power to newer iOS devices via a Lightning connector. This means that you can attach Slimo without removing your iOS device’s case. You can even keep it underneath a case, as long as the latter isn’t made of metal. Slimo will work with any charging base that complies with the Qi Wireless standard.

Place your browser flat on your computer and try using it without lifting it off. Then pledge at least £22 (~$37 USD) on Kickstarter to get a Slimo patch as a reward. Pledge at least £39 (~$65 USD) to get a Slimo and a wireless charging base combo.

iPad Pro Rumored For 2015 Release, iPad Mini Might Be Discontinued

iPad Pro Rumored For 2015 Release, iPad Mini Might Be DiscontinuedWe have been hearing rumors that Apple could be working on a larger iPad which could sport a 12.9-inch display called the iPad Pro. Rumors being rumors, it’s hard to tell if the tablet will ever see the light of day or if it even exists at all. In the meantime if you were looking forward to seeing it in 2014, you might be disappointed to learn that the tablet might not be launching this year after all. Instead the rumored iPad Pro could see a release in 2015. This is according to KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who has in the past been relatively accurate with his predictions of Apple’s plans.

According to Kuo, he believes that Apple will only release an updated version of the iPad Air later this year. The Cupertino company will instead shift its resources from its Retina iPad Mini towards creating the iPad Pro. His research notes state, “All told, we think chances of the debut of a new iPad mini in 2H14 are slim. In addition, the 12.9” iPad is unlikely to be offered in 2014. For these reasons, we predict the only new iPad product in 2H14 will be the upgraded iPad Air.” The iPad mini is a smaller version of the iPad that has been well-received by those who prefer a smaller tablet that runs iOS. In fact it does not seem to warrant discontinuation but if Kuo’s predictions are on the money, that would seem to be the case. In the meantime what do you guys think? Will you be disappointed if the iPad Mini were to be discontinued?

iPad 2 Production Reportedly Nearing Its End

iPad 2 Production Reportedly Nearing Its End

The iPad 2 is almost three years old, though it did become one of the most popular tablets that Apple has ever released. It was a major change over its predecessor, the original iPad, which came out back in 2010. iPad 2 brought a whole new design that wasn’t just thinner and lighter, but also packed a mean punch under the hood. However since then it has been succeeded by multiple models that tout ever faster internals as well as Retina Displays. Customers are leaning more towards them, which means that demand for the iPad 2 continues to diminish. This is believed to be the primary reason why Apple is slowly ramping down iPad 2 production, before finally discontinuing it.

DuMont iPad Mini Case Made Out Of Wood, Looks Like Old TV

DuMont iPad Mini Case Made Out Of Wood, Looks Like Old TVThe iPad mini has been around for quite some time now, and if you are still on the lookout for a new case, then might I suggest to you something more radical and zany in its design – the DuMont iPad mini case that happens to be the brainchild of a certain Jeffrey Stephenson. This particular iPad mini case would see the iPad mini accompany a Jawbone Jambox alongside a heap of wood, cobbled together into an amalgamation that resembles that of a small TV from a time when TV sets were still black and white, and the world was still recovering from World War II.

Insurer Brands iPad Mini As Worlds Most Breakable Gadget

Its not difficult to break your smartphone or tablet. Even though these devices are able to withstand drops to a certain extent, and even though some of them are even waterproof, they’re certainly not completely invincible. Some users opt to insure their device against such unfortunate incidents, SquareTrade Europe is just one of the many insurers that provide this service. It has created a list of the “world’s most breakable gadgets,” and concludes after a series of tests that the iPad mini sits at the very top of said list.
