Apple Said To Tap More Suppliers To Increase iPhone 5c and iPad Mini Production

Apple Said To Tap More Suppliers To Increase iPhone 5c and iPad Mini Production

The latest bit of scuttlebutt from within Apple’s supply chain suggests that the company is going to tap two additional suppliers to produce iPhone 5c and iPad mini units as it looks to increase production as demand continues to rise. Citing people “familiar with the supply chain,” The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple will tap Taiwan’s Wistron to manufacture iPhone 5c later this year, whereas it will bring Taiwan’s Compal Communications onboard early next year for manufacturing the iPad mini. There have already been a lot of rumors about iPad mini supply constraints, supply isn’t expected to improve until next year, perhaps adding a new supplier will ease up things and finally meet demand.

According to the report, Apple is looking to broaden its supplier base as its primary supplier, Foxconn, focuses on producing the iPhone 5s which too is supposedly in short supply. Furthermore, Foxconn has also been under scrutiny for its labor practices, which are apparently “creating a headache for Apple.” Apparently a disagreement was also triggered between Apple and Foxconn when high return rate for defective iPhone 5 units lead them to bicker over who would foot the bill for repair cost, says Alvin Kwock, an analyst at J.P. Morgan.

Apple Reportedly Turns To Samsung For iPad Mini Retina Display Production

Apple Reportedly Turns To Samsung For iPad Mini Retina Display ProductionLast we heard, there were rumors that the iPad mini with Retina display’s shortage could potentially be attributed to Sharp whose low production yields was one of the reasons the tablet has yet to be launched, much to the disappointment of many would-be iPad mini customers out there. We had also heard that LG and Sharp were two of the suppliers that Apple used for the iPad mini with Retina display, but now we are hearing that in a bid to combat possible delays and shortages and to bring production up to speed, Apple will be turning to their rival, Samsung, to help manufacture the displays for its iPad mini.

Samsung has in the past provided Apple with display panels for its products, and successfully too, but due to the ongoing lawsuit between both companies, Apple has been said to be looking to reduce their reliance on the South Korean tech giant, instead turning to other manufacturers instead, or at least giving existing manufacturing partners more orders, and in this case we guess Apple turned to both LG and Sharp. There’s no telling if Apple turning to Samsung will be able to ease the shortages and improve production yield, but given Samsung’s size, there is no doubt that they will be able to deliver.

iPad Air release puts Apple Store down as Retina mini seeks date

The iPad Air is coming to the Apple Store this Friday, and ahead of its launch some countries are finding the online iteration of the retail giant going down – with the prerequisite “we’ll be right back.” Meanwhile the Retina iPad mini’s release date – while not officially noted by Apple yet as such – […]

Target Thinks iPad Mini With Retina Display Could Launch 21st November

Target Thinks iPad Mini With Retina Display Could Launch 21st NovemberWhen will Apple’s new iPad mini with Retina display see a release? Apple has slated the iPad Air for a release on the 1st of November but apart from a rough November timeframe, there is still no telling when the new iPad mini will be released. Pre-orders of the tablet are rumored for 1st of November and assuming that is true, when will the tablet see the light of day? Well according to a product listing of the tablet on Target’s website, it seems that they have listed the tablet for a release on the 21st of November. While a late November release might be bad news for would-be iPad mini customers, it does give Apple some time to push and generate more sales for the iPad Air.

However interestingly enough the 21st of November falls on a Thursday as opposed to Friday which is when Apple typically releases its products. Of course it is entirely possible that Target themselves are speculating the release date and given its general November release, they might be too far off their mark. Either way don’t get your hopes up just yet but hopefully come 1st of November when the iPad Air is released, we will know more about the iPad mini’s release as well, so check back with us then for the details.

New iPad Mini Shortages Could Be Attributed To Sharp’s Low Yield Of Displays [Rumor]

New iPad Mini Shortages Could Be Attributed To Sharps Low Yield Of Displays [Rumor]Apple’s iPad mini with Retina display was announced recently but interestingly enough unlike the iPad Air which was put up for pre-order with a release pegged for the 1st if November, the new iPad mini was not given the same treatment, although it was scheduled for a release later in November. A recent statement made by Tim Cook has also suggested that there might not be enough units to meet the demand, indicating that would-be iPad mini customers would be in for a wait. Now thanks to a report from DigiTimes, it has been suggested that one of the reasons behind the possible delay is due to Sharp’s low yield of the displays for the iPad mini.

Their report claims that currently only two companies are responsible for the iPad mini’s Retina display and they are LG and Sharp, with LG responsible for the bulk of the displays at 60%, while Sharp will account for the remaining 40%. It seems that other manufacturers, such as AU Optronics and Innolux, both of whom have been linked to Apple in the past, have tried to get orders for the new iPad mini but were unsuccessful. These manufacturing problems does not come as a complete surprise as it has been suggested back in April this year that manufacturing problems for the Retina display would cause delays/shortages. We’re not sure just how big of an impact this will have so we guess we will just have to wait and see for ourselves, but hopefully it won’t be too long.

iPad Mini With Retina Display Might Not Have Enough Supply To Meet Holiday Demand

iPad Mini With Retina Display Might Not Have Enough Supply To Meet Holiday DemandAccording to earlier reports, it has been suggested that perhaps due to complications producing the Retina displays need for Apple’s new iPad minis, there would be supply constraints for the upcoming tablet. This is probably also the reason why Apple has not given a release date or a pre-order date for the new iPad mini as well, although we have heard that the 1st of November is a possibility. In any case when asked as to whether Apple would be able to meet the demand for the holiday season, the company’s CEO, Tim Cook, gave a rather vague response that suggested that might not be the case.

Responding to a question posed by Steve Milunovich, an analyst with UBS, Cook was quoted as saying, “It’s unclear whether we will have enough for the quarter or not […] We know how many we will have, but you really don’t know the demand until you start shipping.” However Cook remains somewhat optimistic and expects Apple to do “fairly well” in overall iPad sales, going as far as calling it an “iPad Christmas”. Will the iPad mini face supply constraints? We guess we will just have to wait and see, but in the meantime you should probably not get your hopes up just yet, unless you plan to be quick on the buy trigger.

iPad Mini With Retina Display Pre-Orders Could Start 1st November [Rumor]

iPad Mini With Retina Display Pre Orders Could Start 1st November [Rumor]Without doubt many are pretty excited about Apple’s upcoming iPad mini with Retina display. After all having such high resolution crammed into such a small screen would undoubtedly produce pretty damn sharp images, but the big question on everyone’s minds is when can they get their hands on the tablet? Apple’s website states that the iPad mini with Retina display is pegged for November, but no specific dates were mentioned, unlike the iPad Air which is set for a release on the 1st of November.

Well according to the rumors, it has been suggested that the tablet will be available for pre-order come 1st of November, which is when the iPad Air goes on sale, although there’s no telling when the tablet will be released following its pre-order, but if we had to guess, chances are it should be about 1-2 weeks after pre-orders go live, if Apple’s past behavior is anything to go by. It is unclear as to why the iPad mini with Retina display is launching later, but previous reports have suggested that supply constraints, due to problems with the Retina display, could be the reason why the tablet is launching later. In any case we’re only a few days away from the 1st of November, so try not to get your hopes up just yet.

Regional carriers C Spire and Bluegrass Cellular have thrown their LTE hats into the ring for Apple’s new iPad Air, confirming they will be offering the 4G version of the new slimline tablet announced earlier this week. Space Gray iPad Mini Making Its Way To Apple Stores

Space Gray iPad Mini Making Its Way To Apple StoresPlanning on picking up an iPad mini for yourself, especially since the prices have dropped with the announcement of the iPad mini 2 with Retina display? Well if you are, you might be interested to learn that a new color version of the iPad mini has been released, and it is the Space Gray finish for those who are interested. The update model with the Space Gray finish has been available via Apple’s online store since Tuesday and will be replacing Apple’s Black and Slate versions of the tablet, presumably to add a bit of consistency across the board.

In any case according to a smattering of reports, the Space Gray tablet is not available across all of Apple’s retail stores yet, so if you were planning on picking it up physically, you might want to call ahead to see if your store has any in stock. The first-gen iPad mini has had its price lowered and for those who aren’t fussed by Retina displays, you can pick one up for yourself for $299 for the 16GB WiFi-only version, a slight discount from its original price of $329. So, anyone planning on picking up the original iPad mini, or is a Retina display tablet too good to pass up?
