Father And Son Duo Use “Find My iPad” To Recover Stolen Tablet

Father And Son Duo Use Find My iPad To Recover Stolen TabletWe’ve heard some pretty awesome stories before about how “Find my iPhone/iPad” had been used and actually managed to recover said stolen device, and here’s another one we can add to the list, although this might be a tad more exciting than your typical story as it does involve one of the criminals escaping in a vehicle, although there was no car chase, unfortunately. This took place in New Zealand where a father and son went out to their car after a meal only to find that it had been ransacked and with their iPad stolen (amongst other things). Thankfully they installed Find my iPad and fired up the app on their phone and discovered that the tablet was in a suburb nearby.

They called the cops who accompanied them to the suburb, which according to the dad, was “full of suspicious, sunglass-wearing scoundrels.” One of the criminals managed to escape and actually turned off the tracking feature, but thinking quickly, the dad set the iPad to “lost” mode and sent a message saying, “It’s a small town. We’ve seen you, your car, and your friends. Drop the bag and iPad at Countdown by the Warehouse by 5pm tomorrow and we’ll leave the cops out of it”. Surprisingly they managed to get their iPad back, and the cops managed to nab the thief as well. According to Sgt. Jo Managh, “The fact that technology allows us and affords us to track our own stolen property is fantastic. It helped us locate and recover it back to the victim.”

Adobe Lightroom For iPad Could Be Announced Soon

Adobe Lightroom For iPad Could Be Announced SoonOne of the great things about tablets is that they incredibly light (for the most part) and portable, and they usually come with pretty nice displays too, which makes it a pretty handy tool for photographers to transfer photos on to edit or for viewing purposes. Sure, a laptop could get the job done but in the field, a tablet would admittedly be a lot more convenient. In any case photographers who do a lot of field work might be interested to learn that Adobe Lightroom could be making its way onto the iPad very soon, thanks to a recent leak.

The leak was actually spotted on the company’s website where references to the app were made. In fact it even went as far as letting customers pay for the mobile version of Lightroom which was set at a subscription fee of $99 per year, with the fees mainly due to its cloud storage where Adobe will be able to sync files between the iPad, Mac, and Windows version of its software, so photographers can not only edit their work in the field, but also continue to work on them on their computers when they go back seamlessly. Lightroom for the iPad is not out of the question as earlier in 2013, the company demonstrated similar technology. No word on when Lightroom for the iPad will be launched, but given the recent leak, we can only assume it won’t be too long until we hear the confirmation ourselves.

Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition Arrives On The App Store For The iPad

Baldurs Gate II: Enhanced Edition Arrives On The App Store For The iPadSome games just play a whole lot better on the tablet compared to a smartphone, for the very simple fact that the tablet has a far larger viewing real estate. Of course, it also helps that with more screen space to look at, programmers and game developers are able to cram in a whole lot more stuff inside. Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition is a classic that has finally made its way to the iPad via the Apple App Store, and not only that, Android tablet owners can also whoop with joy since an Android version is also in the pipeline.

Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition Arrives On The iPad

Baldurs Gate 2: Enhanced Edition Arrives On The iPadA couple of years ago, Beamdog announced that they would be reviving the Baldur’s Gate franchise through “Enhanced Editions” of the game and its expansions. This basically meant that the developers would be updating the graphics while maintaining the tone and feel, while adding new characters and new quest lines, so that players who have gone through Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 will have some fresh material to play with. Well the good news is that if you’re already gone through Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, you might be pleased to learn that Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition has officially been released for the iPad!

The first Baldur’s Gate was released for the iPad awhile back to relatively positive reviews, so we expect that the second should fair relatively well as well. Just like the first game, Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition will include features such as multiplayer mode, enhanced graphics, and various improvements spread throughout the game, as well as new quests and characters that players can interact with along the way. Priced at $14.99, it is more expensive than your typical iOS RPG, but if you grew up playing the game on the PC, you know that it will probably be worth it. For more information or to purchase the game, head on over to the iTunes App Store.

LA School District To Expand iPad Buying Program

LA School District To Expand iPad Buying ProgramBack in 2013, the LA school district thought it would be a good idea to start distributing iPads to its students and teachers, but unfortunately the restrictions placed around it were circumvented by students, ultimately leading the school district to halt the program and repossess the iPads that were handed out to students. However it seems that this little hiccup was not enough to deter the school district as they have renewed their iPad efforts and have announced that they plan on expanding the program to an additional 38 campuses before state testing this coming spring. According to the LA Times, the new proposal and distribution could cost tax payers and the school district around $115 million, and while the district could buy as many iPads as they want, they plan on keeping it below 67,500 units.

The tablets will be given to students, teachers, and administrative staff. Each iPad is said to cost around $768 and will include apps and tech support, although officials are attempting to lower the costs by $200-$300 of possible. For the sake of education, Apple too has decided to loosen the terms of the contract which basically forced the district to purchase older iPad models. However with the loosening of the contract, Apple will now provide them with the latest hardware. While there definitely have been hiccups in the program, it is without doubt that technology is becoming more prevalent in our education system these days and it seems that this is a good way to start. What do you guys think?
