A lawsuit against Apple over iOS location tracking and infringed privacy has been dropped after two years, with the same judge that recently awarded the Cupertino firm $290m in damages from Samsung ruling that outraged iPhone users hadn’t demonstrated any legitimate violations. The case, filed back in 2011, saw four iOS users complain that their […]
It’s the time of year where we all give thanks, and among many other things, we here at Lifehacker are thankful for all the free apps out there that improve our lives (and the developers that make them!). Here are 50 of our favorites.
If you think that the tablet in the image above is an iPad from Apple, you would be mistaken, although you could be forgiven for thinking so. Upon first glance the Chuwi V88 does indeed resemble Apple’s iPad (the older models at least), and while its design does look like the iPad, its size at 7.9” would feel more like the iPad mini. In any case if you’re wondering who Chuwi are, you can’t be blamed if you don’t know because they are one of the many manufacturers in China who are responsible for putting out Android-based tablets and smartphones for the Chinese market.
As far as the Chuwi V88’s specs are concerned, the tablet will sport a 7.9” display with a resolution of 1024×768 with an aspect ratio of 4:3. It will be powered by a Cortex A9 quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz and will come in 1GB or 2GB RAM options. It will also feature 8GB to 32GB of onboard storage, front and back cameras, and the usual connectivity options such as Bluetooth and WiFi, although it does not appear that it will support cellular data. In terms of operating system, we would be looking at Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Priced starting at $176.95, it can be yours via Newfrog’s website.

Verizon’s subscription streaming TV service, Redbox Instant, now supports Apple’s AirPlay thanks to a new version 1.4 iOS app update — with some caveats. For starters, though you’ll be able to play streaming content on your iOS 6 device, the app doesn’t support downloaded material as yet. Also, your viewing may be broken off if you receive texts and certain notifications, if you lock the device or if you quit Redbox to use another app. Meanwhile, AirPlay Mirroring, which lets you play from your device with your TV as a second screen, will still work just fine. Other tweaks include the usual bug fixes and improvements to the recommendations engine. So, if you’ve got Apple TV and want to give it a whirl, hit the source — just make sure to tell your pals not to contact you mid-film.

Nokia has released a somewhat misleading commercial having a go at a tablet that could be interpreted as an Apple iPad while touting its own, new Lumia 2520 tablet. The ad focuses on the competitor tablet’s lack of a keyboard and allegedly shorter battery life. The problem with the ad is that it fails to […]
Lately we have been hearing a lot of rumors about a larger iPad that Apple is reportedly testing at this point in time. Prototype of this larger iPad is said to be at Foxconn’s testing facilities in China, though it is unclear when the company intends to start production. The device is believed to tout a 12.9 inch display, but not much is known about its specifications apart from the display size. Initially believed to come out in early 2014, latest rumors suggest that the larger iPad might not make its way to the market until the second have of next year.
The rumor comes courtesy of Taiwanese trade publication Digitimes, which claims to have heard from supply chain sources that Quanta Computer has received orders to mass product the 12.9 inch Apple iPad in the second half of 2014. The sources also claim that manufacturers like Foxconn, Inventec and Quanta are lobbying Apple to receive orders for iWatch production. Quanta will reportedly be in charge of manufacturing the larger iPad, but it is expected to face a number of challenges during the manufacturing process related to industrial design and assembly. According to the sources, the larger iPad might be geared towards education and enterprise markets. Apple, as always, has chosen not to comment on speculation about its future products.
