Wuaki.tv video service gets Android, iPad app support in UK

Wuakitv video service now supports Android, iPad in UK

When Rakuten launched the beta for its Wuaki.tv any-way-you-want-it video service in the UK, it left out the mobile apps that many crave. The company is rectifying that mistake today by officially bringing its Android and iOS clients to the country. There are few surprises for those who’ve used the apps in Spain, although the necessary Android update brings an option to rate shows. There’s also more platform support on the way — Wuaki.tv says that Brits will get access through game consoles and smart TVs later in the summer. As long as you’re content with watching videos over WiFi, you can grab both apps through the source links.

T-Mobile Will Soon Offer A “Whole Array” Of Apple Products

T Mobile Will Soon Offer A Whole Array Of Apple ProductsT-Mobile was the last of the major carriers in the US to offer the iPhone on their network, which according to recent figures might have saved them 400,000 subscribers from defecting to other carriers which seems to be the case with carriers that do not carry the iPhone. At the moment T-Mobile is offering the iPhone 4, 4S, and the 5, which is pretty similar to the lineup by other carriers, but it looks like T-Mobile expects to carry other Apple products in the future as well thanks to a recent statement made by the carrier’s CEO, John Legere.

Speaking to the folks at AllThingsD, Legere was quoted as saying, “I think there’s a whole array of Apple products that we look forward to carrying […] We will expand what we offer from them.” While it is unclear as to what exactly he means by this, some have taken this to mean that T-Mobile could soon be offering up iPads as well, which is what carriers such as AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint are doing at the moment, unless of course T-Mobile is hinting at some kind of future secret Apple product related to mobile (which we don’t think that’s the case). What do you guys think? Anyone interested in getting a 3G/4G iPad from T-Mobile?

New Microsoft Surface RT Ad Highlights The iPad’s Shortcomings

The iPad has been dominating the tablet scene for quite a while now, although recent numbers show that perhaps Apple could be losing their grip at the number one position to Android manufacturers who have been churning out pretty impressive hardware with affordable prices, the new Nexus 7 being a prime example. In any case the iPad is still considered by some as the tablet to beat, and despite Microsoft’s recent woes with their Surface tablets, it looks like the company has decided to take another shot at the iPad, showing off some of the shortcomings of the iPad versus the Microsoft Surface RT tablet. Some of the iPad’s shortcomings, according to Microsoft, would be its smaller display, a lack of a physical keyboard and a kickstand, and how the Surface RT tablet can be used with Microsoft Office while the iPad does not come with productivity suites, just to name a few.

Some of these shortcomings are novel and might not be as important – for example a larger display might not be favored by those who want a slightly more discrete tablet, and the kickstand and keyboard aren’t exactly deal-breakers as well, although admittedly the lack of USB and Microsoft Office could be especially by those who plan to use it in a work setting where they might need to type up documents and prepare Power Point slides. Either way we reckon it’s really a matter of preference in the end, but what do you guys think?

Cox Cable launches personalized Contour experience with iPad app, 2TB 6 tuner DVR

Cox Cable is the latest pay-TV company to relaunch its viewing experience, putting features formerly branded as Trio and Cox TV Connect under the new Contour umbrella. Contour is the new name of its guide for TV and accompanying iPad app, all focused on creating a personalized experience for each user, with tailored suggestions and favorites for up to eight individual profiles. This comes along with the “Record 6” 6-tuner DVR, featuring 2TB of space for up to 300 hours of HD storage and whole home DVR support. The tablet app also allows for viewing live TV from 90 or so channels and video on-demand (while the user is at home), plus the ability to search listings and schedule DVR recordings, or push a program they’re watching on the tablet to the TV. It even includes shortcuts to other TV apps on the device like HBO Go, ESPN or CNN.

Much of the TV watching functionality has been available via the Cox TV Connect app which is still shipping for the iPad 1, Android, Mac and Windows platforms, although Contour is currently iPad and iOS 6-only. The Contour app is available for subscribers with most Cox TV or Contour TV service, plus Preferred Internet or higher, while the guide and DVR are out in all markets. Apple’s Samsung reliance grows despite legal drama says research

Apple‘s attempts to extricate itself from Samsung reliance for components have ironically seen the Cupertino firm increase orders for some parts, new research suggests. Samsung supplied more full-sized iPad panels for Apple than LG Display did in two out of the three months of Q2 2013, NPD DisplaySearch says, and in fact has seen a […]

Heckler Design’s iPad Cash Drawer brings minimalism to sales terminals

DNP Heckler Design Windfall POS Cash Drawer

Carrying cash can be a drag, but it’s often an even bigger nuisance for shopkeepers with iPad point-of-sale terminals. Because of a focus on swiping plastic, storage solutions for your dollar bills take a back seat. The WindFall Cash Drawer is Heckler Designs’ stylish US-made option that, according to the company, offers the smallest footprint of any drawer currently available — it’s probably the brightest, too. Cash Drawer follows the aesthetics of the Arizona designer’s other pieces; namely, heavy-duty steel construction, rounded corners and minimalist design. Is your storefront already rocking a WindFall stand for Apple’s slate? Well, you’re in luck, as the nouveau till sports a secure mounting and cable management system for it. Sure there’s a slight bit of irony surrounding its current lack of pricing, but don’t let that get you down. When it launches this fall, it’ll be available exclusively from ShopKeep POS.
