New iPhones And iPad To Arrive This September 6 (Rumor)

New iPhones And iPad To Arrive This September 6 (Rumor)If you are an iPhone watcher (someone who is always on the lookout as to when the next generation iPhone is going to be released or unveiled), then you might want to mark this particular date down on your calendar – September 6th. Now that we are already coming to the end of July, there is a chance that September is when the new iPhone, as well as the purported iPhone Lite (a budget-oriented iPhone), is tipped to be revealed to the masses.

Why September? That is normally the traditional time where Apple rolls out new devices to the world, in addition to CEO Tim Cook having mentioned that new devices would arrive sometime in “the fall”, which September falls squarely into. Of course, who are we to deny the very present and real possibility of the iPad being announced on the same date as well? Are you looking forward to see whether September 6th will be the date where history is made once again? Or does the date not matter to you much, as long as Apple does what they do best – deliver shiny new products that are easy to use and highly desirable.

Los Angeles School District iPad scheme confirms all 640,000 students will benefit

Los Angeles School District iPad scheme update confirms all 640,000 students will benefit

Last month we reported that Apple was to provide iPads to the Los Angeles school district. At the time, the numbers looked like only a slice of the region’s 640,000 students would receive the hardware (just 31,000 of them initially). New information indicates that this is actually just the first wave, and in fact every one of the region’s kids will benefit from the scheme — as confirmed by Mark Hovatter, chief facilities executive for LAUSD. This is of course great news for those in the area, but not all that bad for Apple’s bottom line, either, we’re guessing.

iPad Musical Shower Curtain

Do you subscribe to the notion that “music is the universal language”? I always thought that love was the answer as to what a universal language would constitute, but I suppose that music would rank somewhere in the top five list. Having said that, if you happen to be one of those folks who absolutely cannot live without music all the time, then surely you would be in possession of the early Walkman, Discman, iPod, and smartphone, as all of these devices do deliver audio playback in a portable manner. How about during those moments when you are trying to experience an “Eureka!” moment in the showers? This is where the $49.95 iPad Musical Shower Curtain comes in.

The iPad Musical Shower Curtain works as its name suggests, it is a shower curtain that boasts of built-in speakers as well as a waterproof pocket for you to place your iPad inside. This would be able to turn any ordinary shower into a real singing sensation event, and fret not for your iPad’s safety – the pocket that holds it will be able to zip closed from the outside, allowing it to remain safe and sound from moisture, while it sports an integral audio cable that hooks up to an iPad, iPhone, Android phone, or MP3 player, connected to a couple of speakers in the upper left and right corners of the curtain. It will be powered by a trio of AA batteries, so if you plan on using this for the long term, it would be best to get rechargeables.

But when it comes to not just mobile-specific but also photo-specific storage, your options are pretty much cut entirely. Nexus 7 2013 vs iPad mini: more than a pixel race

If you’re getting ready to buy a brand new tablet on the smaller end of the spectrum and you’re deciding between the new Nexus 7 and the iPad mini, you may very well be asking yourself the wrong question. This comparison goes well beyond the basics – screen sharpness, body size, and processing power – and it’s not just about Android vs iOS, either. Unless you’re just planning on browsing the web, these two tablets are cut from completely different bits of cloth.

woupwtmk

With the 2013 edition of the Nexus 7, you’re working with ASUS as a manufacturer, the same as the original Nexus 7 – Apple, on the other hand, manufactures their own hardware and controls their software experience top-to-bottom as well. This release from Google comes with Android 4.3, an upgrade to their operating system being made for the rest of their Nexus smartphone and tablet line just today as well.

aasdfwtmk

The Apple iPad mini (this is the original iPad mini, mind you), works with a 7.9-inch IPS LCD display with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, coming in at 163 PPI. The Nexus 7 (2013) works with a 7-inch display with 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution, that kicking it up to the new most densely-packed panel in the tablet universe at 323 PPI.

displays_3wtmk

*Note: the smartphone market still wins with the HTC One bringing on 468 PPI, and if the pixels from the Nexus 7 were packed into the same space as the HTC One works with across a 4.7-inch display, it’d narrowly miss the spot for kingship itself.

displays_2wtmk

Inside the iPad mini you’ve got an Apple-branded 1GHz dual-core A5 processor, while the Nexus 7 2 works with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, working with Adreno 320 graphics. The Apple iPad mini works with 512MB of RAM while the Google tablet ramps up to 2GB RAM.

We’ll have to wait for benchmark tests to see how these two compare, but when you’ve got two massively different operating systems and two rather different sets of hardware to run them, comparisons are best left to real-life use-tests. We’ll see how it rolls soon enough!

cameraswtmk

The Nexus 7 2 works with a 1.2 megapixel camera on its front and a 5 megapixel camera at its back, the same as the iPad mini – but as both machines work with completely different camera architecture (it’s not just based on numbers), we’ll have to wait – again – and see how the two compare in real-life video and photo shoots.

backupwtmk

The iPad mini currently exists in three configurations as far as internal storage goes: 16, 32, and 64GB, while the 2013 Nexus 7 has been shown in 16GB and 32GB iterations. Nexus 7 2 works with Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band Wi-fi, 4G LTE with each of the USA’s major mobile carriers, and NFC. The iPad mini has these same features in-tact save the NFC – it has none.

UPDATE: The Nexus 7 works with T-Mobile while the iPad mini works with Sprint, while both can work with Verizon or AT&T.

ipadwtmk

Apple’s iPad mini uses its own unique Lightening cord to connect to your PC or the wall for power while the Nexus 7 2 uses a standard microUSB port. The 2013 Nexus 7 works with wireless charging – QI standard wireless charging, that is – as well.

The Apple iPad mini has a relatively wide range of costs, different for each of its storage sizes and connectivity: $329 (16GB Wi-Fi), $429 (32GB Wi-Fi), $529 (64GB Wi-Fi), $459 (16GB 4G LTE), $559 (32GB 4G LTE), $659 (64GB 4G LTE). The Google Nexus 7 reboot rings in at $229 (16GB Wi-Fi), $269 (32GB Wi-Fi), $349 (32GB 4G LTE), and at the moment appears to be starting shipping on the 30th of July, 2013, with 4G LTE editions coming “soon”.

Apple vs Google earnings show major differences in similarly popular companies

As Apple reports a record quarter for iPhone sales and an otherwise less-than-eventful quarter for hardware, Google rings the last bell they hope they’ll have to ring with a Motorola loss. How do the two compare other than in billions of dollars this past set of three months? Let’s have a peek!

googleapple

Google’s reported consolidated revenues for this past quarter rang in at $14.11 billion USD, this a 19% increase over the same quarter one year previous.

This includes a total of $998 million in revenue from Motorola alone – though as our Motorola earnings in Google earnings rundown shows, GAAP operating loss for Motorola headed upward to $342 million for this quarter, while non-GAAP operating loss went from $49 million to $218 million in the same quarters year-over-year – no small change to scoff at.

It’s important to note at this point that the two companies do not record earnings to be compared to one another specifically, and as such, this article should be taken at face value. Apple and Google create reports like these to send information out to their investors specifically – this battle is for entertainment alone.

Apple plays a very different game here than Google, creating their own hardware and software rather than chalking up wins and losses to a separate entity. While Google works with Motorola and will soon be releasing Moto X, the closest Google will have come yet to taking total control of a Motorola handset, there’s still a point at which the two entities are more separate than Apple is with its hardware/software combinations.

Apple’s quarterly revenue comes in at $35.3 billion, this up from $35 billion (without the .3 at the end) the same quarter one year ago.

Meanwhile Google’s operating expenses, other than the cost of revenues, were up at $4.92 billion for this quarter, while Apple’s were $3.82 billion. Net income for Apple rang in at $6.9 billion for the three month period while Google’s was $3.23 billion (and that’s non-GAAP).

While Google rings in the earnings bell for items like Advertising, Apple lets numbers be known on each individual piece of hardware they sell – iPhones, iPads, Mac, iPod, and Accessories. Will we see similar numbers in the future as Google continues with Motorola, especially with products like the Moto X? And what kind of one-on-one numbers will we see between the Moto X and the next iPhone, coming this Fall? We shall see!

iPhone sales up 20% from last year, iPad and Mac sales down

As expected, Apple rolled out its earnings and sales figures for the fiscal third quarter of 2013. During the three-month period, the company raked in a revenue of $35.3 billion and a net profit of $6.9 billion. Apple also saw record iPhone sales for Q3, with 31.2 million iPhones sold during the quarter.

iphone_5_silver_0-580x42211

31.2 million iPhones sold is up from 26 million units sold a year ago during the same time frame. However, it wasn’t all roses and candy, as both iPad and Mac sales were down year-over-year. Apple sold 14.6 million iPads during the third quarter, compared to 17 million a year ago. 3.8 million Macs were sold, which is just slightly down from 4 million year-over-year.

CEO Tim Cook says that there was a “strong growth in revenue from iTunes, Software and Services,” which boosted iPhone sales throughout the quarter. Furthermore, Cook notes that the company is “laser-focused and working hard on some amazing new products that we will introduce in the fall and across 2014.”

Specifically, it’s rumored that we’ll see a new iPhone, along with a budget model and some new iPads. Seeing as how iOS 7 will see a release date at some point in the fall, it makes sense that Apple has a new product to go along with it.

iPad sales saw a steep decline from last year, though, and while web traffic is screaming all iPad, Android tablets may be slowly taking over, or at least pushing Apple away just slightly, preventing them from selling more iPads. However, Q1 2014 could see some changes in that area if Apple does indeed introduce a new iPad in the fall.

Apple Q3 2013 earnings bring dividend despite less-than-eventful market period

This week Apple let loose their quarterly earnings for investors and the public alike, letting it be known that a quarterly revenue of $35.5 billion along with $6.9 billion in quarterly net profit is all well and good. This quarter saw the sales of 31.2 million iPhones, this a record for this quarter of the year, along with 14.6 million iPads – that’s up for iPhones, down for iPads.

20130610_064915-M

Meanwhile the company has declared a cash dividend, Apple’s Board of Directors bringing a dividend of $3.05 per share of common stock in this period. This dividend is payable on the 15th of August, 2013, and shareholders of record as of August 12th, 2013 will be eligible for the payout.

“We are especially proud of our record June quarter iPhone sales of over 31 million and the strong growth in revenue from iTunes, Software and Services. We are really excited about the upcoming releases of iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks, and we are laser-focused and working hard on some amazing new products that we will introduce in the fall and across 2014.” – Apple CEO Tim Cook

This same quarter last year saw Apple bring in $8.8 billion in quarterly net profit one year ago, while revenue has also gone down from $43.6 billion this past quarter.

This past quarter didn’t exactly come in as one of Apple’s most mind-blowing when it comes to hardware, this resulting in an expected set of numbers as reported. What we did see, on the other hand, is previews of software such as OS X Mavericks and the next iPhone’s iOS 7.

This Fall, Apple says, we’ll be seeing some exciting new products – and if you’re surprised by that suggestion, you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years. Without an iPhone, at that.

Stay tuned to SlashGear for additional analysis on this quarter’s results, and stick around for the Q and A as well!
